I was coming home from taco bell tonight and this random guy pulled out wildly in front off me at the traffic light. The light turned green and I gunned it to see what it was. Turned out to be some kinda BMW, couldn't really tell. I followed him down the back road at 60mph for about a mile then hit another light. The light turned green and he accel. and then pulled over into the slow lane and i pulled up next to him. He yelled at me and told me "Lets GO!" and i'm thinking...."in my little ST???" So i said wtf and i went for it.....
Yea, i got smoked, he left me in the dust big time. But i mean come on...be realistic. So he slowed a little and waited for me to catch up to him. We are now going about 90mph on a double lane road and he yells at me and says "thats pretty nice!" and i yelled back and said "yep, gets me where i need to be. Then he flew off. After that moment i can't get this one thought out of my head....{ 3s-gte }....and I wonder if it would have been different |

I'm sure that it would've been different if you had a 3S-GTE. Chances are you'd have left him in the dust unless it was a M3, M5, Z8, or one of those other pretty fast BMWs.

thats what it was! An m3 yea! I remember seeing the M3 on the back. It was an auto i believe or the guy didn't know how to drive it.
Can I ask you a question? If i order a front clip will it come with everything i need to do a swap and i just transfer it over to my car? or will i have to go buy another grand worth of stuff to make it run? Cause i found a 1997 alltrac+diff 3sgte front clip for 1800 |

You'll need a GT tranny or one from a 3S-GTE, and you'll need some other parts like GT motor mounts I believe because you have an ST. And while the engine is out, you'll probably want to replace some seals and gaskets and the timing belt and maybe water pump and some other stuff.
So basically, you'll need more than just the clip in order to do the swap. It's definitely do-able though, it's just more work. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

brand new and shinny, it was very fast...to say the least. Or maybe I was just slow lol.
Well thats fine just as long as i dont have to dish out like another 1-2 grand on stuff. If it just parts like that i can get them cheap. So i need a GT tranny and all the shifter stuff too right? and GT motor mounts and thats it from a gt, the rest is all me and the clip? Then just kinda freshen up the new engine. What are good prices for these clips? i've found a few in the 1500-1900 range. I want a ST205 |

An ST205 3S-GTE is gonna be a lot more work and money than a ST185, but it'll be very cool. I'm not sure on prices, but I think most people pay around $1500-$1700 for their ST185 clips.
But don't count on beating that M3 once you've got your 3S-GTE, unless you've got some nice mods. A stock E46 M3 will be neck and neck with a stock MKIV Twin Turbo Supra. Those things are fast! -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I am lookin into a swap in great detail, and a good friend of mine with a silvia swap said that even with my GT he thinks I should reinforce my motor mounts, because they arent as up to par as they should be. Correct me if im wrong.

It's probably a good idea to reinforce them or maybe even go with urethane mounts, but I don't think it's really necessary. I think most people don't reinforce their mounts, but I'd double check on that.

the new m3s r pretty fast. I don't know about the autos (SMG) but the manual tranny m3 go 0-60 in 4.5 and the 1/4 in 13.1.
