 powersteering belt, how to tighten? |

my powersteering belt is squeaking when i make turns, i try to tighten it from the bottom of my car the other day but i cant find the spot to tighten it. anyoneknows where it is located exactly? pictures would be better

Check your power steering fluid, it's more likely that you're low on fluid - I believe your belt would squeak if it either needed to be replaced, or were too tight. Tightening it won't help.

Tightening it won't help. When your low on fluid it makes more of a whine than a belt noise. Tightening the belt can stop a squeal. Anyways. There should be a tensioner on your power steering pulley. Your gonna need to loosen the bolt on the pulley then tighten the tensioner. --------------------  |

Low fluid can cause a squealing noise, though usually it will groan and not squeal.
A loose or worn/glazed belt will squeal. There is no tensioner on a S series pwr steering pump, you have to loosen 2 bolts and pry the pump, then tighten the bolts. take a 2x4 of wood and stick it between the power steering reservoir and the valve cover, pry till its tight. thats what toyota told me to do over the phone...

i got so used to driving without p/s so would it matter if i took of the p/s pump, belt? i dont think i can go back to p/s on my celi

it wouldn't hurt it man. i drove without a belt on for the longest time. i got used to it too and i kinda liked it. you feel really ''connected'' with the road.

I absolutely HATE the power steering setup on the 3s/5s...seems so, primitive.
You'll have to get under the car and pry the pump up while tightening the hinge bolt. -------------------- |
