I would post this on supraforums, but they would just argue with each other and not give a straight answer, so I'll try here first.
I am planning on buying a 7mgte and trans locally, building it up, and dropping it into an older supra chassis (mk2, 82-85 is much lighter than a mk3) I would like this to be a street legal drag car, stripped out, drag radials, etc.
What power levels would get me in the 10 second range, and what turbo do I need to get there? I have been doing a lot of researching on supraforums, but I want your input, too. this site is better, anyway.
Thanks

the best site for research is celicasupra.com, I don't know about the power but you'll need a 3.90 rear differential, if you have a 4.10 ( like me ) it's not good for big HP numbers as you'll get no traction, also if you have a manual tranny on the MK II you don't need another tranny as they are both the same ( W58 ) the engine fits fits perfectly as the MK II has an older version ( 5MGE ), mounts, tranny will work with the 7MGTE, but since your goals are up there why not just go with a 2JZ, has been done, it's a little harder and it needs more custom work and involve new tranny and such, but powwer will be better handle. 7M are known for head gasket issues under high boost, the 2JZ is a newer motor, with more power and bigger aftermarket support.

show some pictures of your MK II, I love those cars, I'll show pictures of mine in a month or so when I go on vacation.

if your looking to dip down into the 10's your gonna need to do internals...forged pistons, rods, cams, maybe even a stroker kit...larger turbo would be nice...look into holset...water injection to keep that block cool.....also i would build the bottom end up strong and run nitrous....i know a lot of people say its no good and it kills the motor a lot faster but i beg to differ....if its built correctly and you run it a little bit more rich then what they suggest you will be fine...i dont know if your looking to go 10's w/out spray or not but i know that a 200 shot would be nice and will help get you there...espically if your not going to be driving the car everyday. Just do your homework and build it right and you should be able to come out with a 10 second car....also dont cheap out on anything if you want it to last....quality gets you further then anyhting...keep us updated and let us know how you make out

if you wanna go 10sec more than once or twice... dont use a 7mgte. lol jk, i love giving those guys crap about HGs

well your gonna have major traction issues. build up your traction. practice in the car. shoot for 500whp, that will give you a good starting point. prolly not 10s but very quick!

as for turbo.. a garret gt35r or smaller GT40 turbo will get you to hp worthy of 10s. your motor will need some work though. pistons at the very least. ARP headstuds are a must! dont be scared of those supra guys.. go make friends wink.gif

Ive seen MKII supras built up, and they are pretty quick, but the fastest MKII ive ever seen is a guy from the Toronto Supra Club. I used to belong to it back when i had my MKIII. Any ways, this guy had a MKII with all fiberglass pannels, like hood, hatch, fenders custom made for weight reduction. Under the hood he swapped a 1JZ into it, MKIV Supra rear end with custom driveshafts, 4" exhaust, big single turbo on the 1J and then just custom interior, coilovers, and paint. He had a time slip that said he was running 9 second 1/4 mile. First time i met the guy was when he was pulling into the parking lot where the TSC meets happen, he shot out a good 3 foot flame out of his exhaust when he was right infront of a cop car. laugh.gif

You can make em fast, but i would stay away from the 7M. 7M's have potential, but it takes alot of $ to make em really fast.
