I am in the middle of installing a custom turbo system on my 7A-FE engine. I have one small problem. The turbo I got from the yard has both water and oil cooling inlets and outlets for the housing. How do I tell which one is which?

i dont think it matters, the liquid is only for cooling, unlike the oil.
btw where are you tapping into for the liquid cooling? -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Ohhh yes, it does matter very much. If you got a turbo with an oil and water center section you have to make sure you get everything hooked up correctly because not only does the oil cool the turbo, it also lubricates the bearings. Its very unlikely that you got a ball bearing turbo so that means you have bearings that ride on oil. Oil is the only thing keeping the happily spinning parts of the turbo from coming into high speed destructive contact with the happily non-spinning parts. Thats why oiling is soooo important to a turbo.
I'm guessing you have a T3 or a T3 variant, if so the oil lines will have a fitting with a 2 bolt flange. The water lines won't have the flange. The water lines should also be bigger. The oil flange looks like this: Ebay Flange |

Thanks. I now have them figured out. The oil I will be tapping from a T joint after my remote oil filter. The water I am not so sure about. I'm thinking of just tapping into the cool end of the radiator, but I am not sure. Any suggestions would be great.

I would think you have a water inlet and outlet.

yea, to clarify, i didnt think that the direction of the water cooling made a difference. the oil lines have to run in a definate direction, from top to bottom and the oil feed is usually the smaller hole.
