ok here it goes, I've been wanting a miata for the longest time because they are awesome. So of course, when I had enough money to get one, the reality of chicago winters set in and I got my celica instead. I cant say it made me forget about miatas.... anyway, fate decided to be a bitch and my friend got the miata of my dreams two weeks ago. "wtf". Obviously showdown between my '99 5sfe and his '99 BP01 was soon set... I'm sad to say i got my ass handed to me. I did a good launch considering my lsd issues and pounded through the gears without a hitch. That bastards 1000 lb weight advantage is what sealed the deal though. right from the line he was inching forward until the end of the 3/4 mile he was a car length ahead of me.

There are times when I hate my celica.

I hate its one wheel wonderness
I hate its lethargic ass engine
and i hate its massive rolling, squatting, wheel hopping garbage.

-_-

I tried the search feature, it sucks, i want to find out more info about limited slips for the celica, any opinions on the trd lsd?

The mr2 spyders lsd will fit in there. But to be honest even with the lsd you won't be able to take a quick car.

The 5S is a sluggish motor. And these cars can be just balls slow.

Also, the empty weight of my car is 2700, so you're saying that the Miata weighed 1700? They're light but not that light. I believe they're around 23-2500.

i dunno if they changed over the years... but my st can handle the bubbly ones... never ran a newer one and dont plan on it anytime soon.

google shows 99+ miata's weigh in at 24xx lbs... pretty much a bit more than an st coupe. pre 99's weigh in at 21xx lbs dry

yes i know my name is lame. i made it about 5 hours after i got my celica and all was possible. i guesstimated the weight of the miata. it wasnt a track but a privately owned street owned in the heart of a warehouse district. freshly paved. quesstimated the length too. we ran for a good while so i figured it was long. anyway miata > celica. boo

You can get a Phantom LSD google for it. Its simple to install provided you know something about transmissions and as far as horsepower goes you can slap on a turbo and get more horses without a engine swap.

Its heavy but at least it can corner pretty well plus it looks nice not some square shaped civic.

an easy way to win is to jurk the wheel in the direction of the opposing car.

don't worry, the miata isn't fast, the celica is just slow. if you have a stock 5s, and he didn't pass you until the very end, don't worry about it. a 5s turbo could take one at half throttle biggrin.gif

I'm still wondering how you lost to one kindasad.gif
Maybe it was the length of the run or just your driving skills.
I've been paired up against them many times at both the 1/4mile tracks and 1/8miles tracks - never once lost to an N/A one.
Now in autox it would be rape-age on a massive scale - those things own at the autox events.

I dont think my driving skills are questionable. I havent been driving stick for very long but i did learn on my friends 2007 wrx tr with an after market clutch. steeeeep learning curve. Plus, the miata driver learned how to drive a 5 spd, but hes never had a stickshift daily driver. I think have the experience advantage here.

you guys also have to realize that he has the 10th aniversary edition miata which produces about 140 hp. so peak output is similar in our cars even if i have a torque advantage.

* here is what im planning to do to win next time:

1} change my aem intake from hot air intake to cold air intake (did most of the work last night)
2 shift at 4800 instead of 5100 (to better take advantage of my torque curve)

why do i have a short ram w/o a heat shield you ask? simple, i just wanted the soulnd so I modified an accord AEM intake we had on sale at work and slapped it into my engine bay.
