In the last little while, Ive had it with my celica. I was on my last straw for awhile with it, but these last 2 weeks, im past it. In the last 2 weeks ive found out i need new ball joints, tierods, drivers side strut, strut mounts, strut rod bushings, front wheelbearings, 1 rear wheel bearing and on top of that the other day i blew a brake line. Not a flex line, but a hard line..like coming from the perposioning valve down and too the rear. So, ive been thinkin about it for awhile, and im done. I have all the parts i need to fix it except my strutrod bushings that ive been waiting on for the last 9 months from Toyotaworld. Apparently they are on the way from Texas right now, but then agian, they have been on their way for almost 2 weeks now.
Any ways, once the cars fixed, Im gonna be doing some minor rust repair on it, cleanin up the interior a bit, repainting my shifter surround and radio surround. Any ways once Im done, its going up for sale. Im gonna post it in the trader and on Kijiji and Craigslist. Any ways, I hate to say it, but im considering going over to the dark side. I was considering gettin a WRX, but ive heard alot of horror stories about them and the cheapest WRX i can find 5spd is like $14K CND with almost 200xxxKM on it. So im also considering gettin a RSX. Ive seen them for anywhere between $8K and $12500, the price difference is between either a 5spd permium package base model and a Type-S. Im thinking im gonna go with a base model just because its cheaper and i can still make it pretty quick. My plan is to get one in black on black, JDM Honda badges, JDM blackhousing headlights, Type-R spoiler, redded out tails, Type-S side skirts, replica mugen lips, tinted windows, black rims with a red lip. Normaly, i would say no to Honda, but I like the sound of K20A motor. Bigger Honda motors dont have that anoying misquito sound coming from the exhaust. Even though i wont be owning a celica any more, i will be envolved with the 6GC comunity after the fact. Im still going to be building Sarah's coupe (Keroppi), and helping out any of the Ontario 6GC members with their cars. So Ill still be around, still keeping active in the 6GC community. I will update this thread when i sell Shelly, and get my new car. This car club was the first car club and community ive ever been apart of, so I am definatly going to be around. The only horror stories I've heard are the 02 WRX transmissions are crap. That is why you don't get the 02. My 03 has the RA spec gears and is just built better overall than the 02. Must be the supply and demand up there, but I got my 2003 WRX for $14,100 out the door with 56K miles on it. It's a 5sp, but it's a wagon (what is the downside? I don't know). It was a great buy. Unlike the Celica it responds well to modifications... plus the awesome boxer rumble
Then again, the RSX can run ITB's. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

black
silver theres 2 around me. most people take good care of their cars and id trust those dealers. black has some mods on it, silver is bone stock i think you should rock the awd. you get a bit longer snow weather, plus general day to day usage im sure a wrx will suit you alot better than another 2 door. -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!

Personally I know this is blasphemous but I think the RSX is a nice ass car.
If it were me though, I'd get a tC. In fact I think my next car will be a tC. Toyotas and Hondas are about equal in reliability, but Toyota parts are a little less expensive. That makes them better in my book! -------------------- ![]() |

I know we all love our Celicas, but the truth is that there are better cars out there.
If your going to upgrade, get the wrx. Its got a lot of potential and a huge after market support. The rsx is also a nice car, but really lacks torque and transmission failures are also very common. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I'm going ot tell you the truth about the WRX, being on NASIOC. ALL transmission of all year have failure..the only exception? The STI's. And it's known that the failure are only due to poor shifting. But I know the fears! The WRX is generally seen as a very reliable car versus evo's and SRT-4's, 350z, rx-8, etc...
I got my Canadian stock WRX for 14 999$ from a private sale with 131 000 KM, a deal? I think so! And for for same reason, my 6th gen was falling apart (I blame the winters...), my rear brake line busted and it was the icing on the cake. The key with WRX's is the previous owners. If you get the RSX, you might regret getting the base, but they are nice car..my friend has one and they look bad-ass. I dont mind the lack of torque compaired to a celica. Our cars are just lower end torque beasts, but its alright. There is less of an aftermarket support of the RSX than the WRX, but thats fine by me. For what i wanna do to the car, i can get all JDM parts easily and w/e else i can get from my work. As for the tranny issues on a RSX, ive never heard of any one saying there is any. never the less, if i do end up gettin any issues, my buddy Mayo, whos like a honda god, has tons of spare honda parts laying around in his wearhouse and can get me a new tranny and install it for $500. Good luck in your endeavor hehe If i do get this car, it will only be a summer car, no snow in it. I dont want any thing to rott out on it. The cheapest private seller scoob ive found so far is a guy who wanted $15K for one with a bunch of prodrive goodies. But the thing is, i dont have $15K. Im looking to buy somethin for $13 at most. I have found a pretty decent looking Type-S at a repo place near my house. They want $10500 for it, 124xxxkm on it, stock Type-S sides, some ugly 17s, Mugen style spoiler, lowered, crappy axel back exhaust, and the guy had a after market radio in it, so if i pick it up, im gonna get rid of the mugen spoiler, put in a new deck, get some better wheels, and abetter exhaust. The thing about the base model is, I really dont mind it having less HP, im not trying to make some rediculusly fast beast out of it, well at least not yet. So im thinkin if i get the base model, ill keep it running N/A and good looking for awhile, and then if i realy want some more HP, ill get the Greddy turbo kit for it. |

Bummer you can't get a tC up there, I didn't know that. Maybe (probably) in time though, huh? I really love my Celica, but I look forward to getting my tC in a couple of years' time. (Seems like I can't keep a car more than 2 or 3 years, I get bored or something!)

the other reason im gonna b going for the base model is i can run 87 octane in it with no issues and considering gas prices are gettin up to $1.20/L right now, and are expected to hit $1.50/L, i cant go wrong. Yea it wont make as much power, and yea i wont get the 6spd, but its alright. If/when gas prices go down again, it might be time for me to turbo.
But yea, i think your POV on torque is a little twisted Art. When you got as much power in your car as you do, you think every thing is slower. Its like going from like an STI to a wrx, the power is still there in the wrx, but no where near as much as an STI. |

have you looked into is300's? I've been watching them and they're starting to fall a little bit in price now that the 250 and 350 are out. They come in a stick, 4 doors, look good, and are still toyota.

i have, but pricing for them up here is nuts. Cheapest ive found is around $15K, and that was for an auto. Cheapest stick one ive seen is $22K. Im not really looking for somethin in that sort of price range. I wanna get somethin for around $13K and under.

yea i saw one at the TD bank on Dougal across from Burger King running ontario plates. But according to the RIV they arent legal to import. Plus i couldnt even imaging gettin any parts for them up here aswell as the insurance prices for em. Plus, i personaly dont like the look of them all that much.

if you must sell i wouldn't hold it against you if you got an RSX. i think they are pretty sweet for a honda. i like the earlier year models better personally. the goofy headlights kinda grew on me LOL.
as for getting an IS, i wouldn't. i almost did but it's just not worth it. they just don't put down the power that you would expect from a supra motor. either way good luck on your endeavor. ![]() -------------------- |

I think the headlights on the newer models look like they didnt get finished being designed. The first gens look way better imo. The second gens are so much more luxurious and less agressive. So, quick update. Cars back from the shop, brake lines fixed. For sale signs goin on tomorrow. I went and took a look at this black on black premium package RSX at a dealership near me Monday night. They want $10450 for it, but after lookin at it, i dont think so. It was dinged up a bit, had 176xxxkm on it, the leather was cracking, smelt weird, and for what ever reason, had Hyundia Elentra floor mats in it. Like, the floor mats said ELENTRA on them..lol. Any ways, so i tracked down another one within my price range. Its $12450 for the same thing, but has 86xxxkm on it. Im gonna go take a look at it on Saturday, but i checked the vin on carfax and its clean.
BUT the good thing is, 1 thing i wanna do for my car almost right away is a ITR spoiler..and i found out i can get one from my work for like $130 brand new....and for gettin every thing i wanna do at first *coil overs (skunk2), AEM cold air intake, AEM sparkplug valley cover, Magnaflow catback, the ITR spoiler, Skunk2 rear lower tie bar, and some raingaurds for like...$1100 for every thing with taxes in. God bless discounts. Any ways, ill post up when i get the new car/officaily have the old one for sale. |

dont worry, there will be eurosplitters there. Derick is coming and hes got colour matched euro splitters and i think Nader might have a set by then too. But its ok..ill be there with the JDM styled RSX. I made a promiss to my self that this car is gonna b pure JDM styled and good quality parts on it. No more self made intakes, no custom made exhausts, short throws for a diff car, etc. Its gonna b sick. But i dont think its gonna b lowered untill the spring next year, unless i somehow get my hands on some more $

well...i bought my new car yesterday..kinda. I left a deposit on it,...it needed to be certifified and e-tested aswell as the guy i bought it off wanted to take the head unit it has out and put the stock one back in. So i get ownership of it on wensday night if all goes to plan. But its definatly gonna be mine.....but..i think some of you guys arent gonna like me very much for gettin it. Its not an WRX, or an RSX...but its closer to an RSX than any other car....
![]() Its a 2002 Civic SIR...so its got alot of the same suspension parts as a RSX, based off the same chassis pretty much, K20A3 motor out of a basemodel RSX, but with a different intake manifold, 5spd. This one has 112xxxkm on it, original owner, H&R springs on KYB GR2s, Engals front and rear camberkits, OEM SIR GFX spoiler, OEM JDM Amberside markers, OEM European Civic Type-R red H badges, blacked out headlights *some E-bay ones, but they look like OEM JDM blackhousing ones*, AEM cold air intake, 5spd, factory interior, and hes got like 5 big boxes full of extra and original parts. So i could honestly bring this car completely back to stock if i wanted to...but i dont..lol. The only downside to the car is 1. its got stock exhaust...hense why i have an Apexi WorldSport 2 exhaust system on order at work, and 2. its got brand new 15" tires on it, and i dont have the $ to go with bigger wheels and tires...so i had to get a set of aftermarket 15s, but i got a set of Maxxim (made by Konig) Airs...they weigh like..14lbs or somethin each for like $400 and change. What do you guys think??...dont hate me |

those are probably the only "SI" models i dont like. would of prefer the RSX but hey it's what you want and what you like. enjoy! Its the same thing as an SI in the US. Just up here its an SIR for what ever reason. The reason i chose it is cuz it handels better out of the box then an RSX. RSX have TONS of oversteer without the suspension being modified. This car handels like a go-kart out of the box. Its got more interior space, more ergonomic seats, bigger trunk, but still uses RSX parts and is faster then a basemodel RSX. Like when we were out test driving it, my dad took it for a rip and i sat in the backseat behind the guy we were buyin it off. Hes 6'4" and im 6"...and i could sit in the back seat without him being all crunched up with plenty of leg room. |

Last minute decisions don't end up too good. I'd rock the RSX.

Last minute decisions don't end up too good. I'd rock the RSX. Honestly, not even a last min decision. I was thinkin about EP3s when i was thinkin about RSXs, but they are few and far between up here. So maybe 2 weekends ago i went out and took a look at this nicely priced base model RSX, took it for a test drive, liked it, came back and it was sold. So i went home and found there was a dealership about 10 min away from my house with an 04 EP3 for around the same price as the RSX i was looking at..so i went up and took a look at it since i had never driven an EP3. within 2 min of being behind the wheel, i liked it 10000% more then the RSX. The RSX has leather witch sucks for taking corners cuz you slide, its got a tiny ass backseat, not too much headroom, not the biggest trunk, and oversteers like a mofo. I took the SIR out, drove wayyyy better, tons more space, tons more little storage pockets, same motor, same tranny, seats were more comfortable and you dont slide all over the place in them, tons more trunk and back seat room. The one i was looking at originaly got sold the day i was gonna go leave a deposit on it, but then i found this one a day later for a way better price with exactly what i wanted on the car, with wayy less KM on it, in better condition, with all the stock parts too. It was far from a last min decision. |

one of the dealers in town where I'm at had an EP3 for sale, so I went and took it for a spin to kill some time. It was terrible. It was slow in accelleration, tons of body roll, and overall was just very unappealing.

well i guess now we can call it official.
Sad you had to take this route. But whatever you choose, it will be all right. As long as you dont have regrets 6 months down the road, dont look back. And if you do, plenty of them on auto trader, but they are getting more expensive... IDKW no car, will ever be the celi. No matter what. I have not seen or driven a car like it. Im not talking about the great performance or the confort, the speeds or even the looks. Its the feeling, the look on other peoples eye's like WTF is that car, the sinister grins on all the other guys in the stop lights growling their engines trying to stand out when you sit next to them. And worst when you ignore them. If i wanted a faster car, sure i would have traded it already. But there is something about those 2 tons of steels that makes my wife jealous and my dog growl at me, when im doing something to it... ![]() Cheers! -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... lol you guys^^^... anyway, this is why I love this site too much, the member's passion for the celica.
Bryan, congrats on your new acquisition. Hope it turns out better than your celica. I know, you will make that car better in preformance and handling just like you took care of your celica. Hope to see you soon with the new ride buddy. -------------------- -Derick

i like it mate. You could make that look awesome! What did you decide on the wheels? I decided on a set of Maxxim Airs in what they call Carbon..but its semi gloss black. They are only 15s, but are lightweight and made by Konig, so they are good quality. I think they only weigh somethin like 14 or 15lbs each, not much, so it should be nice. Im gonna get my buddy who does vynals to try and make me some flatblack and red honda H logos for the center caps to make em match a bit better. Eventually i wanna get somethin like the red lips, like you did on your wheels. lol you guys^^^... anyway, this is why I love this site too much, the member's passion for the celica. Bryan, congrats on your new acquisition. Hope it turns out better than your celica. I know, you will make that car better in preformance and handling just like you took care of your celica. Hope to see you soon with the new ride buddy. Thanks Derick. Im kinda disapointed in some of the repsonses ive gotten from alot of the other 6gc members. Like the frist response i felt kinda taken back by. "Oh, its one of thouse SIs i dont like"...if you dont like it, then please, just keep it to your self. Yes i asked for opinions on the car, but you could just leave it as "i dont like it as much as the celica" or "i dont like it" Yea i do know its not as sleek as the celica, and yea it doesnt have the same lower end torque as the celica, but it does produce more HP then the celica does, and for the weight of the car it does move pretty good. As for the comment left by 95celicaST, maybe the one you took out was in need of some work, because this car has only springs and camber kits done and it has limited body roll and accelerates pretty good. Even a bone stock 04 with more miles i took out for a rip handeled good out of the bag. And i mean, common, your saying it accelerated slower then an ST?? I dont think any thing is slower in accelration than an ST. I do admit, i am kinda hating givin up the celica, but its time for me to get somethin that i can actually drive. My celica is great, when stuff isnt breaking. Like in the last month alone i need the fallowing work done...New brake lines front to rear, new gas lines front to rear, new ball joints (both sides), new outter tie rods (both sides), new drivers side strut cartidge, new passangerside shock mount, new rear strut rod bushings. And gettin parts for the celica is easy at times yes, but i mean..im going on 10 months now waiting for my strut rod bushings to come in from Japan, and thats not by some cheap ebay company...this is by Toyotaworld too, one of the best toyota dealerships in the U.S. I honestly considered buyin a newer celica, but with all the hassel i found trying to get parts for my celica, i wanted somethin that i knew would be reliable, somethin that i knew would last me, and somethin i knew would be cheap to maintaine and get parts for. I mean common, how many honda owners have you ever met who complain about not being able to find a part for their car?? Even hard to find JDM parts are easy to find compaired to stuff for our cars. Like i know 5 suppliers of real Mugen stuff in Toronto, and yet i dont know of 2 companies within ontario that would sell stuff like j-speed or c-one. Yes there are tons of honda out there, and yes there are millions of civic out there, but an EP3 like this is pretty rare up here. |

I didn't even notice if/when vtec kicked in. And don't get me wrong, they are very nice looking cars. compairing an ep3 to a rex is like compairing a st to a gt4..lol..theres no compairision. Obviously a wrx is gonna be way faster, you have what?..230hp on boost?..i have 160hp at the crank?
Any ways, so my wheels are in for it, and some of my parts are in too. Im pickin the car up tonight at like..10:30 or somethin, so there might be a picture or 2 up here tonight, but i will be posting a few more tomorrow when i get the new wheels on and some of my other goodies. Goodies list: Maxxim Airs - Carbon (wheels, light weight) Skunk2 resivoir covers skunk2 rad cap skunk2 wheel hardwear (super light weight) PIAA Extreamwhite plus headlight bulbs PIAA interior bulbs Apexi World Sport 2 exhaust Neuspeed x-brace front strut tower bar I should have all of thouse in by friday. nice car! Don't worry about the nay sayers. Here are my pros about it:
1. VTEC! 2. Sweet interior! 3. Much newer car! 4. Black! It is a much different looking car than the Celica...a little quirkier looking...but it will be a fun ride and easier to upgrade. I drove an 07 SI for a few days and that was a blast, less the lower end torque and getting used to being patient getting up to the higher revs...but the patience pays off! |

yea, ive noticed im actually comfortable taking this thing all the way up to the red line when going on the highway. She needs a bit of work, but ill be postin some new pics when i start wrenchin on it..i got some stuff that needs to go on soon. Im puttin my WS2 exhaust on, EBC green stuff pads on the back, HAWK EPS pads up front, and doing some engine bay renovation. im tryin to figure out what colour to paint my valve cover. I would do wrinkel red like the OEM CTR valve covers, but every one does that.
Imput on colours? |

i was thinkin gold, but i have nothin else gold on the car, so it would stick out too much, I like the highgloss black, but i think that would be shinier then my car..lol..the wrinkel black, is kinda what im thinkin, and the camo FTL. I wouldnt mind that teg's motor mounts, fuel rail, intake manifold and lower plenum though.
