I have taken apart 6th gen ones. I assume they are the same inside. What do you need to know?

I bought these mirrors however they are red...

I dont want to make a crappy job, and only paint the outside. I need to paint (drop in laugh.gif ) the inside as well.

How do i take them apart.

Someone from craigslist just emailed me pix of his taken apart 5th gen mirrors; I don't know how to take them apart but you might be able to look at the pix and compare to what you have. PM me if you want, and I can email you the pix he sent me.

well, assuming that the 5th gen ones are similar with to the 6th gen ones..

1. pry the mirror from the bottom (be extremely careful not to bend the mirror too much or it will crack). The bottom of the mirrors snap in from the bottom.

2. remove the gold screws that holds the white part to the base (there's 3 or 4 of them)

3. remove the black screws that hold the base to the back housing (there's 3 of them).

IPB Image

and that's it.

both parts are not recognized by the system. Can this plate be soldered?

anybody knows if this can be soldered. A machine shop wont do it. They sell the whole mirror assembly, and unless i get a broken miror but with a good plate, i am SOL.

I don't think its a good idea to solder that, welding might be more appropriate especially if those plates are steel or iron. I have only soldered copper pipes or wiring so I might be mistaken.

Probably cause that metal is so soft they'd have to adjust maybe more than their welder will go. Do you really need that one screw? Many people say one of the screws doesn't match up anyway on the 5th gen mirrors - perhaps it's that one? Try the other side first and see what happens - it may turn out this is the one that doesn't match up anyway.

well i think im getting ready to paint these babies.

need help from the paint experts. Yes they are red from factory, meaning the plastic is red, not painted red. What is my best optio.

1. prime it and then paint it black with duplicolor.
2. paint it black with plastic fusion paint.

3. What has woked out the best for you?
