If anybody actually cared about soccer in this country perhaps there would be decent players on the teams.

Yup i know. My entire in-law's come from the Salvador and love it. (no racist pun intended, as Americans, our "foot-ball" is played with armor and the rules are similar to smear the queer laugh.gif ) it's the diversity/minority that's got a team for our country. The average American, don't give a "snicker-bar" about anything outside of our little mental space. tongue.gif Sad, but we live in and encourage an A.D.D. society.

I think I should have been born somewhere else b/c I think I'm one of the only Americans who really likes soccer over Football or Baseball tongue.gif. Don't follow it much, but I'd much rather be watching (or playing) a game of soccer than many other sports. And yeah, one of the main reasons the U.S. sucks at the sport is b/c there aren't nearly the amount of fans here as opposed to other countries.

I think soccer is the best sport there is. I played soccer as a kid/teenager, and I was actually really good at it. It's too bad soccer in the US is like the metric system. It's a great idea, the whole rest of the world is on board with it, yet we just can't quite seem to get it.

I liked the Manu game at Russia. That's the only full soccer game I've watched since the last World Cup.

I would also like to watch some Galaxy games since they represent LA... but never get around to catch it.

yea mate...seriously, soccer in north america isnt really considered a professional sport. Like in the UK, u guys got barclays, and eufa, scottish league. Here, we have like...small leauges for bigger cities..and MLS (majour league soccer). Soccer in Canada is starting to pickup more and more. But you really dont even hear about it on the sports reel in the news. Like soccer is one of the biggest sports for you guys over there, here, pretty much every big city has a hockey team, baseball team, football (american football) team...So its not like over there when you have a soccer team as one of the biggest (if not the biggest) team for the city.

But i agree, north americans playing soccer is a bit of a joke. I mean..common..look at the LA Galaxy....they paid a rediculus amount of $ to get David Beckham on their team, and they arent even doing that good. I mean, some no name kid from Toronto FC faked him out and scored without even trying. Soccer here if it ever does pickup is gonna be exactly like every other majour sport, its gonna be all about $.

Yeah, just not here. Nothing against the sport or anything, it's incredibly difficult to maintain that pace for so long but I'm into it just as much as ice hockey or basketball.

That's a ridiculous thing to say.

Go check some stats on how much ground a soccer player covers in a match, compare that to NFL then tell me it's a joke.

Players regularly cover 10KM+ in a match, much of it sprinting.

They don't just come on for one play, then sit down for 20 minutes drinking Gatorade. If anything is a joke sport, it's american 'football' mate!

Alright I'm just going to say this now and hope it helps the situation. Let's not turn this thread into an argument over wheather one sport is better than another. The difference in opinions here is mostly due to how/where we were raised/live. I played soccer all through middle school, so that's why I'm more apt to enjoy the game than someone else who might have watched Football every week and would obviously be more used to and prefer that game.

I never got into soccer, but I just like to watch them get into fights. Though it can be brutal, those guys hit like the biggest sissies ever! LOL I only like American Football, and baseball is only fun to watch live. Other than that, I can't stand watching basketball sometimes, because lots of those players are crybabies who want to be the star of the show.

Soccer is a WORLDWIDE craze, so you can't compare viewers of the 2 sports. Thats like comparing a televised high school basketball game on a local tv channel to a nationally televised NBA game. Hmmm...wonder whos gonna get the higher rating. rolleyes.gif

I prefer watching golf and tennis over soccer. soccer players are the biggest whiners and prima donnas ever. Ronaldo? Give me a break, puts on 20 lbs of gel in his hair before every game...probably to impress those cross dressing prostitutes... laugh.gif

Football is a REAL sport that incorporates strength, speed, agility and BRAINS. Have you even seen an NFL playbook? The amount of prepwork involved to be an NFL coach? 80% of the coaches dont even go home during the season. They stay in the stadium and lock themselves overnight for weeks at a time. Studyin tape.

lol....too bad pro football players dont even look like that anymore. you look at an offensive lineman or defensive lineman these days and they're so much leaner than they used to be because its all about speed and agility. with more and more teams running zone blocking schemes and 34 defenses where positions have to be interchangeable, even the "fatter players" have to be quicker to the ball. Football is a much harder sport than the wussy version they play overseas.

lol...if you played football straight through at that pace, they wouldnt last through a whole game cuz its more physically demanding than soccer. thats why you see 15 year olds go pro in soccer like Adu cuz its not a physically demanding sport. In the NFL with the exceptions of Deangelo Hall and Amobi Okoye, you have to be at least 22 to enter the NFL draft...they dont even let little boys skip college to enter the pros cuz they'll die. Its more mentally demanding too. I'd like to see you memorize over 2 to 3,000 plays every year in addition to that the audibles they gotta learn. What kinda things do soccer players have to do to prep for a game?

o idk just the whole strategy of the game, the line up,and the drillsand wat formation the team is in.In football u dont think at all,a retarded monkey could play.. the QB is the only one that thinks, the blockers block, thats it,the WRs have to run a route and catch, thats it,the RB runs in a lane, thats it...soccer you have to make decisions in a split second or get the ball taken,in football u get to stop every 5 seconds and get in a huddle with a bunch of sweaty guys to figure wat to do for the next 5 seconds.

have u ever played soccer shogun?

wow...only the QB is the only one thats supposed to read that? you've obviously NEVER played football. HAHHAAHHAAHAHAHHA...OK a retarded monkey could play? Then lets see if u can pass this quiz...

Whats an option route. What is an A Gap, B Gap, C Gap? Whats a 34, 43, 46 defense? What is a dog? What's the difference between a 2 technique and 3 technique. Whats a zone blocking scheme? What is the difference between a Cover 2 and Cover 3? What is a stunt? What is a rip? What is the Mike, Sam and Will and where do they line up? What is a zone blitz? Whats the difference between the X,Y, and Z receivers? Whats the difference between a Nickel and a Dime? What does Rover mean? Whats a full house package? Whats a jumbo package? What is a 2 point, 3 point and 4 point stance and when are these stances best utilized?

Sorry but if you cant' answer all of these then you're dumber than a monkey (good luck googling all this information later).

The fact that a 15 year old can play professional soccer tells me that soccer is a freakin joke. All the terminology above is BASIC terminology that you learn in high school. I won;t even think about the cr*p they go through at the pro level. O-line just blocks? They have to adjust their blocking scheme according to the QB's audibles...try being a lineman for Manning's offensive where he audibles every 5 seconds. an o-lineman misses an assignment and somebodys goin to the hospital. They have to be in tune with one another as well. From the way you're talking you wouldnt last a day at football camp. Stick to your soccer. LOL.

Shogun,

You've just proved the difference between the two.

Soccer is more about individual athleticism (whatever you say), and natural talent.

What happens in a game is all about the individual skill of the player, not being told EXACTLY where to run and who to pass to by some old guy who's locked himself in the Stadium for a week kindasad.gif

There's no real end to this discussion, we just have to accept that each sport is different and at the end of the day they both make for great entertainment for people.

do they even have team plays set up for soccer? I dunno coz everytime I watched it all I see is individual efforts, not like the american football where there are tons and tons of designed plays. I do credit the stamina of the soccer players though and the American football's strength, agility and unique designed plays. I still think that hockey is the hardest sport out there... hockey players should be accurate, agile, strong, with high endurance and smart. my 2 cents on this topic.

How come every thread ends up in a "my dad's better than your dad" mentality?

They're not plays...its TERMINOLOGY. I guess football players are smarter.

Marathon runners have more stamina than any soccer player in this country.
