Alright, first off. I got stopped in one of the cop traps. I didn't even think twice about it, i was like.. yeah check my stuff I'm all legit. Well I did not know that my inspection was out of date by a couple months. It was an honest mistake, I just forgot. I'm only 18 and I'm very busy with school and stuff.

Its a 130 dollar ticket, witch i personally think is a lot for something that is so harmless. Alright now I'm not sitting here trying to make it seem like I don't deserve the ticket. I do, however. My friend was caught street racing about a month ago. He did not get a ticket because none of the cops saw him do it, even tho there were people who called the cops on him and the other kid. He got away with nothing but a warning. The way him and the other kid were driving was so dangerous. I understand wanting to drive fast with a friend every now and than, but they were weaving in and out of traffic, going into the on coming traffic lane. Not a good way to drive, and at about 80+mph. He gets nothing but a slap on the wrist when the cops stop us later. The lady asks if he was street racing he says no, she goes back runs his plates. He doesn't have any prior tickets he just gets a warning to "drive safely and responsible". But i get a 130 dollar ticket, for something completely harmless? It just seems like a stupid thing. I have to set a court date, I'm going to get it inspected today because the cop said it would give me a better chance of getting the fine reduced, witch I hope it does. I'm trying to save money for when i go away to school and this is the last thing I need.

But just to make it clear, I will not sit and cry if I have to pay. I understand that I broke the law and for that I must pay. It just seems.. well, ehh. Unnecessary?

"which"... wink.gif
dude that sucks but the thing is you got caught red handed and on the other hand your friend was just accused although he was guilty but unproven.

So basically you would rather a cop give someone a ticket for something they can't prove and have no idea was actually true yet you blatantly didn't update your inspection and your whining about it?

Jeez.

Don't think that he's whining...just venting (he did own up to his mistake).

I was pulled over once for having my windows tinted to dark (actually I bought the car like that). Cop also fined me for having a cover over my plates (even thought it was transparent). But when I showed up to the hearing (overseen by a magistrate), he was very cool about it. Asked me questions about myself, my schooling, asked if I fixed the infractions, etc. Then he let me off with a warning.

So my advice to you is to show up on time, dress nicely (shirt +tie), have all your paper work in order, show them respect and you may get off without much more than a "slap on the wrist".

Yeah, it sucks. I took it to get inspected yesterday and it failed for tons of stuff. Some stupid (neon interior lights) some serious (exhust leak). So i'll get it fixed up and get 'er to pass.

No i'm not saying i want cops to give people tickets who they can't prove did something wrong. I'm just saying that it seems the punishment was pretty heavy for something like that.

But hey, you live and learn. I'll just always remember to make sure my inspection is up to date.

oh damn. yeah they'll do the same here too
if you own up to racing they'll let you off easy, bc 99% of ppl here that street race run if they see a cop
and well.. 80% of that 99% get away. cause our cops just suck at driving lol
but they really do appreciate honesty, here and im sure elsewhere
i was pulled over for speeding (47 in a 35) and i was just like, well i was crusin and wasnt paying attention to the speedo, and only got a verbal warning
i got caught going donuts in a parking lot (when i was driving my truck) and i just told him, time for new tires, it was an empty lot early in the morning, i seen no harm... verbal warning again

wow... I got 1st degree reclass driving for losing traction and sliding my gf jeep around about 5 ft in an empty a jack in the box parking lot at like 11pm in the rain.. lawer got it down to 2nd degree neg driving with a $530 fine (plus 2k lawyer bill.)

also got a $200 ticket for no front plate when I had one in the window (in acordance to my interpertation of the law which does not state it has to be on the bumper just visible from the front.) took it to coard judge read off some bs refused to see the pics of the car that showed the plate and i got stuck with the plate.

anyway cnelson, sounds like you have the right additude about it, main thing is just show respect in coart admit to it and tell the truth, they could drop it compleatly never know.

bro, in the woodlands cops block the u turns and get out of their car and check peoples inspection and randomly check people....

keep in mind that people who have warrents or fail to appear in court, stoled cars, all of these cannot renew their inspection, they also will have their dl expierd b/c they cant renew that eithor or their insurance and cops know it! its a big and common bust for cops and they love it... just keep ur part in renewing it and ur all good...

to be honest, you got off easy. My gf's car had expired tags (over 3 months) and her car got towed. She had to pay for the tow, the storage, and the fines. Be glad you don't live in CA.
