OK,
YES I KNOW THIS ISNT A 6GC BUT I THOUGHT ID ASK.... TO START OFF, MOST OF YALL KNOW MY CAR IS TOTALLED AND I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR CELICAS IN THE AREA THAT I CAN BUY, BUT HTE MORE I LOOK INTO IT, I WOULD RATHER HAVE AN MR2... So the coice for the engine is the 5sgte... mainly becaues its bigger displacement and the walls are thicker, coolant passages are routed differently but still join up, thicker passages and no weak spot between cyl head 2 and 3.... this means i can boost high, run nitrous and race gas without much worry of cracking the block! yay! Depending on condition and trim, some "restored" MR2's can go for well over $10,000. Most I've seen in FL go for about $5,000. Obviously the newer the car the better, 93+ would be the best if you have the money.
Non turbo MR2's have the 2.2L 5SFE while turbo models have the Gen II 3SGTE. Check out the MR2oc for more info. -Colin |

You could build a stroker motor but it would probably cost more than just a "simple" 3SGTE swap. The wiring would be nothing alike, the only thing in common would be that its from Toyota...wire length, connectors, and fuse boxes are all different.

hmm so mechanically i have the same engine choices for swaps... or am i not getting the point? to me it looks like it would be the same basics in swapping a celica as it would be swapping a mr2....

hmm so mechanically i have the same engine choices for swaps... or am i not getting the point? to me it looks like it would be the same basics in swapping a celica as it would be swapping a mr2.... The swap basics would be the same, just with less space in the MR2. Easiest way is to just buy the MR2 turbo so you don't have to worry about it. You basically have the same choices in engines, but with a "better" platform to use it with on the MR2. I try not to use the term "better", since it's more of an opinion, but it's hard to argue that an MR platform wouldn't make better use of the potential of an engine than a FF platform would (especially if you want to build big HP numbers). So I say if you plan on building an engine well over 300hp, then it would be worth it to you to get the MR2, because unless you someday plan on going AWD with the Celica, all the power is just going to go to waste since you wont be able to get traction with FF. Good luck with whatever you choose to go with though ![]() -------------------- |

91 - 92 Mr2 n/a usually goes for 2.5 - 3.5 depending on the condition. 93+ has a better suspension set up and lil changes in the interior but you wouldn't really notice much. They go around 3.5 - 4.5 for n/a. The 91-92 models usually go for 4.5 - 5.5 and 93+ turbo models go about 4.5 +. IMO I would just buy a n/a model since gas prices isn't that great at the moment OR... you can have me do a v6 swap for you and get great gas mileage, more power, and be as fast as a turbo model.
![]() Wiring isn't difficult on a mr2, not much of a difference except for the body harness. You can build power from the 5s but please invest good money into tuning it right. There's always 1gen MR2s as well. They can be quite fun, esp. the SC versions, and often are priced cheaper than 2gen models.
If you haven't yet, try to take a drive or ride in a couple first to see what you think. IMHO, I'd rather swap a 3sgte into an n/a car rather than take the effort to turbo a 5s. -------------------- Apex Silver 2008 EVO MR

thank yalll verry much for the input, i really appreciate it!
the mr2 would be strictle a project car and i figured 5sgte because of the power output capable and because it unlike any oother toyota out there, besides ice23q and that drag racing guy.. lol its original and custom to my car... ive driven a number of mr2's at the dealership i work at, its jusst hard to come by em... wow all the mr2's i see in my area are going for 5600 and up... haha i love it when they advertise no haggle pricing.. they really mean "lets rip u off" haha hopefully ill be able to dealertalk em down... hmm i never though gen 1's, i was fixated to the 2's and 3's just due to the styling of em... ok another question, why would a 9192 model be more expensive than a 93+ model if the 93+ ones had interior upgrades and better suspention... didnt the 93+ also have a "turbo tranny"? |

I talk to the lady before, she would only go down to 1500 min. Its not hard to convert that to a manual. It's not a bad deal for a mr2 in that shape. Paint just needs to be rebuff. If you plan on getting someone else's project, I would reconsider, cause you don't know what kind of work has been done to it.
don't look at the nadas though, sometime it means nothing. Mr2 are getting more rare everyday, cause some loser is parting it out to make money or kids that think they can drift a mid engine chassis. -------------------- ![]() |

thanks
i think im gunna wait for a t top 5 speed... i might have one possibility! ya, but i can still take my 5sfe out of my celica and toss it in there for the time being... than build my motor on a stand until finished than drop it in... shouldnt i be able to seap the window motor out of the celica into the mr2? sounds like itd work? if you ever come down to Dallas let me know. I'll let you test drive our demo cars. I have 5s, 3s, and a v6 demo Mr2. My next project will be a v6 celica. You'll love the v6 power.

haha well im pretty much everywhere.... but ya, ill let u know, i will say that i am planning on building my engine and everyhting myself tho, i wouldnt wanna go out there and just drive the 2's( im guessing you build them or your comapny does them), the whole mr2 will be a overhaul! Exspecially b/c my mom is an interior decorator, i can get fabrics and leathers for real cheap so im allreaddy planning on going custon interior, im thinkin soft black ostrect with tan accents... as far as engine goes i gotta beast 4 syl on the brain... not really looking to buy power but build it...
maybe the 1500 pile o crap would be cood for it.... idk... i could throw my old 5s in there while i restore it and build the new beast on a stand.... or should i build the beast and wait on the car till the "right" mr2 comes by, because i really want a t top... always wanted one... im looking more towards big turbo w nitrous setup, ive had a 91 intrepid r/t which had the v6 high output magnum thats still in the chargers today, didnt dig the power... not enough... lookin more towards 600+ finishing Product if i see an opp to go more power in the 4 vyl than i will... the whole reason i choose 4 vyl is the ease of them, there simple engines, i dont like the whole v design, too complicated imo... you don't see any good condition often anymore. They are usually rusted, frame damage, and body parts not lining up. I do prefer the t top better though, fun in the sun. Well good luck with the search and project!
