I have noisy rear calipers. They seem to be loose and the brake pads rattle on curtain bumps. I have replaced everything possible I think?
The things I've replaced - struts, springs, strut mounts, sway bar linkage, sway bar bushings, (all this was before figuring out that it was the calipers rattling) And then the brake pads, calipers bolts, caliper sliders, and after all that I changed the calipers themselves and still the rattle. I was just hoping maybe someone would know what it could be other than what I listed if so it would be much appreciated. |

do you have the caliper clips that help hold the pads?

I had the same thing happen on my rear caliper.
Check the caliper clips like bitter said. I have the clips on but there was a single tab missing from one of the clips that made the clip vibrate creating a creaking noise when the brakes were applied. Buy some brake caliper grease from your local auto parts store. Apply to the clips, and to where the clips touch the caliper. |

change the pad back.
I had that problem when i did my d/s rotor conv. And it turned out to be a defective pad/the pad tab was deformed. If you've got the clips holding right, and it makes a rattle/poping noise when you're breaking, then try to change the culprit pads back and see if it dont stop. the tap deforming can happen in MANY ways, so it's a rather simple thing to try. Good luck with that. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive. Thanks for all the replies...sorry for waiting so long to check for feedback on my question.
I have been to Toyota - so much that they know me by name...and they don't know of anything else that can be changed that I haven't already changed. I have changed the clips and the brake pads and that has not solved this irritating rattle. It doesn't seem to be the brake pad rattling but the caliper themselves that are moving, in turn making the pads rattle against my rotors...will this "fit kit" help? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks |

Chances are then, that your rotors are not in place like they should be. It could also be an issue of your emergency brake componets.
Jack up the rear Take off one of the tire on one side Release the emergency (Hand) break Return to the rear of the car, pull off that Rotor & Caliper, and ensure everything is placed properly; restore the rotor and caliper with hand break still down Put break back on to replace tire. Make sure you put those rotors on Tightly! EDIT: i say this because your e-break works like drum breaks (basicly) and with the hand break disengauged then it'll be easeier to put them on and off (free-flowing actualy) and allow you to ensure everything is at a proper fit. While the rotor is off, you can ensure that everything is where it should be. ![]() (Sorry for this crappy pic) ![]() thats what you want to expose, make sure everything is working properly. Good luck. This post has been edited by D-Man: Jun 23, 2008 - 4:53 PM -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive.
