I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD. It'll be releced quickly so that there's plenty of hype for increased sales. Just like Trans-Formers. smile.gif

I'll own it in probably 3 months. biggrin.gif and i'll watch it on my own 'personal' theater laugh.gif (anyone who's seen my house knows this tongue.gif )

I saw it last night at 12:01 for the midnight release, and I'm still in awe from it all. Right off the bat, you can tell that it's more mature, and developed than Batman Begins. There is just this feeling of menacing, and evil from the characters which was not seen in the last one.

Heath Ledger played the performance of a lifetime, we will NEVER see a performance on this level again. I was saddened when it ended because of this. But as far as every other character goes, they were all fantastically played, and flowed with the movie seamlessly, even though Heath blew everyone out of the water.

Eckhart was surprisingly good. I do feel that they could've given him a longer role in the movie, but it turned out well. I was however, not open to the fact that they changed the actress that played Rachel (even though Katie Holmes was pregnant during production).

But overall, I cannot say enough good things about this movie. If you are hesitate to see it, DON'T WAIT! Even if you aren't a comic book buff, you'll love the action and suspense this movie has to offer. Bottom line, this is a serious action movie.

I'm even going to see it again tonight. smile.gif

I just saw it ...

Honestly ...first 1/4 of the movie, I was kind of not feeling it. It was just kind of slow moving.
Then it picked up around the time the thing with Gordon went on, and was amazing till the end.

Jokers outfit when talking to harvey was awesome. lol

Health Ledger<OD<His fault

They have been doing a lot of interviews with with everyone from the movie now that its out and people have seen it, they are actually talking about the movie and the making of the movie. All of them have said that he was the best person to work with, that off set he was happy and shy being around all these well known actors. But that he was friendly and everyone loved being around him.

Ledger didnt OD by choice. The only fault of his was he didnt read the labels on the bottles of meds he was taking. He was depressed but not because of the roll in this movie. he was having a lot of family problems and he was not the happiest person alive maybe, but it had nothing to do with how he prepared for this roll. He was seeing 3 doctors for depression and anxiety. The 3 doctors gave him 3 different meds for these problems, he took 1 of each as the doctors told him too and the mix of them being taken together sent him into cardiac arrest.

It was an accident. I think its funny that everyone made this big deal about how this movie killed him and really it had nothing to do with it.

At last I had chance to see it as well... honestly I'm bit confused. I had the same feeling as after seeing Casino Royale. I had a bit different expectation plus I have found out my English is worst than expected. Just about 40% of dialogues I understood frown.gif. So... I need to see it once again in my native language.

Confused would be the word for understanding less than 1/2 the movie.

I saw it in Imax last night - and it was incredible. The Joker really makes this movie what it is. Two Face also looked pretty amazing.

How was the Imax version? I read that the viewing dimensions change throughout the movie due to the two different cameras (Imax, non Imax) used? Was that weird?

It did have 2 different viewing dimensions. The movie opens up in Imax film - during the opening bank scenes. Then it will cut down to the normal 35mm, and then certain scenes will go back to large format IMAX. It didn't bother me in the least, it was a treat to be completely immersed flying over "Gotham" and that last scene where he's on the batpod, really cool looking too.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

always has to be one negative dickhead, yes he may of possibly been able to prevent it but it still was an accident and he didn't mean it, It happened, everyone makes mistakes just not everyone dies from them.

I'm not a comic book movie lover but this was definitely a great movie wink.gif 4.5/5

laugh.gif at you people trying to defend if he did it on accident or not. ignorance. bottom line is you don't know but you can assume what you want. The argument at this point is irrelevant because he's dead.

now to be on topic.

The movie was good, I loved the quality of the Joker character was impeccable. Heath did a great job with his roll and I see very few roles played so well. The movie as an entirety gets roughly 8/10 for me. Some of the main plot decisions changed (so it appears) such as Two-Face dieing before really becoming and involving the character as in the comics back in the day. I do like the evolution and maturity of the Batman character and think Christian is probably the best "recent" Batman so far.

saw it at the Drive-In movies and will go see it in IMAX again.

Girl who played Rachel wasn't as hot as Katie Holmes though.

^ But was a lot better actress.

Addendum: they're both kinda yucky.

Dan you MIGHT want to put a spoiler code around some of your text.

Spoiler: Highlight if you want to see.

It was never confirmed that Harvey actually died. It wasn't THAT far of a fall, so they may just be keeping it under wraps, and pretending he died to protect his reputation & the city.

I was a bit disappointed that katie holmes wasn't in it.
The girl they used was a total butter face. Reminded me of whats her face, playing mary jane in spider man.
Katie might not be a great actress, but I think she sells the part of a love interest a little better then this girl did.

I heard some rumors that the original idea was to have the 3rd movie be based on the trail of the joker, but since Heath died, they wont go with that plot anymore.

They'll still have joker. It's just make up.

They didn't want Katie back because she was promoting her relationship with Tom.

You don't seriously believe that do you? There is a lot more to movies and acting besides makeup. I would be very shocked if they even tried bringing in another actor to attempt Heath's style.

Just saw the movie, its definitely worth watching in theaters. I completely agree with the comment about batmans voice, Especially in the scene when jokers hanging upside down. Other than that its a great movie, but I wouldn't say one of the best ever. I think the LOTR series holds that title personally.

Honestly.. it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I left a little disappointed. I guess I had insanely high expectations for this movie.. I just.. I don't know. I thought Iron Man was better, honestly. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie.. just not as great as I thought it would be. Two Face was seriously awesome though.. the effects.. wow. And the Joker looked sexy in his little vest. Ugliest girl ever to play Rachel though.. she has a dog face.

They'll still have joker. It's just make up.

They didn't want Katie back because she was promoting her relationship with Tom.

First - they'll NEVER have the Joker again. Heath's performance can NEVER be replicated and nobody will try.

Second - Katie refused to do the movie. They offered her 2 mil to reprise the role.

Saw it in IMAX - whoa. It was epic and screen transitions were flawless.

Highlight:I'm a little confused about who the 5 cops where that dent killed (as mentioned in the last exchange between gordon and bruce)? I only count a couple...

Do not highlight if you haven't seen the film:

I'm pretty sure Batman just mentioned 5 deaths, which I think includes Harvey, but I'm not sure. The 4 others are Maroni, his driver, the one cop in the bar, and Ramirez I don't think they showed actually getting killed, but she admitted to being under Maroni's control.

Finally went and saw it on the weekend, I was surprised how dark the movie was. Great movie.

It is definitely a movie to see in the cinemas. No illegal watching of that one.

I saw it again this last weekend and I can't deny it anymore - it reminded me very much of The Crow which has been a fav comic of mine since a few years before the movie. The first time I saw it I was like "Oh it's just because both movies had a major actor die before it was released" but the second time it just has a very similar feel. I'm sure some of you hardcore Batman fans will come down on this but it's just my take from a very longtime comic reader from waaay back [No I don't read comics anymore cause sadly there's very little left to read in them - they're just big splashy pages and horribly thought out "plotlines" nowadays kindasad.gif ].
Did anyone else watch this and then go immediately home and watch the Tim Burton Batman? Anybody else notice some very similar, but not comicbook derived, manerisms from Joker to Joker? The smacking of the lips [Yeah they both did it several times, check Nicholson's joker out again - kinda obvious why the Ledger version did] and several other little things I noticed but can't quite put my finger on. Anyone think maybe some of that was on purpose?
IDK - I'd judt like to see this thread progress beyond "I saw it - was great" blah blah. I'd like to see some serious discussion on such an epic movie.
BTW - Whoever's idea it was to show the Joker in shadow in his cell at Arkam during the next movie - if done right that's really great idea. I always liked the walk down that hallway with all the madmen behind bars etc.
The cameo from scarecrow was perfectly done - just enough. I sincerely hope two-face will come back [I really don't think he'll stay dead] - this is the first time I've ever been able to take that character seriously and the burnt side of his face was just wicked biggrin.gif

I can totally see where you're coming from with the assimilation of Dark Knight to The Crow. I think it's the use of color throughout the movie. Both of them are literally dark as well as "dark themed". Lots of cool blues balanced by neutral greys and tans and browns in both movies. Use of color in movies can be very focal (The Sixth Sense is a GREAT example of this) and in both of those movies, the color was used to evoke a mood as well as to further denote the general sense of darkness/good vs. evil; the "when is good evil and when is evil good" paradox throughout the movie.

(Or maybe I'm just overthinking it.) I took this Film and Cinema class in college (art school for those of you who don't know already) and that was one of the concepts we covered/explored. I never watched movies before taking that class; they were a constant let-down for me. I felt like I was missing out on an integral part of our culture though, so I took the class, and it opened me up to a whole new perspective with movies. I've always been really glad I took that class!

Anyway, back on-topic. I'd go see it again... I'd really like to see it in an iMax theater next time!

That was my idea!!lol.. I have also been a comic fan for years and agree with you after reading alot of older comics it seems todays are just "pretty pictures". I am hoping for riddler in the next one. If they make him go along the same creepy and dark road the the joker and even the scarecrow was the it should be awsome.

Totally agree - that was one of the things I noticed right off but forgot to post.
Also the scene with the Joker laughing as he's being beaten was very similar to a scene in The Crow just purely by his facial expressions.

I too could see that character being done right. For god's sakes tho - stay away from Mr Freeze LOL.
I'm sure all the Batman fans will soon be clamboring for the Bane character altho I thought he was the product of a very comercial era for comics - maybe a re-think but keep the whole addicted to drugs/enhancers w/e they were theme. IDK.

I still can't seem to like homeboy's Batman. He fits the part but as I said before he's not acting - he "acts" this way in every movie [Yes American Psycho too. Especially Equilibrium - I kept waiting for him to show some emotion after he stopped taking the serum but he still seemed bland and lifeless]. I think the guy must really have no personality and his lisp is very unbecoming of the Dark Knight and just rather unmanly in general. he does a better job than all who've come before him so thank god for that.

So noone noticed the Joker/Joker simularities besides me? Maybe they're just in my head?

No, I think now that you point it out, I can see the similarities you're referring to, especially the lip-smacking/tweaker-mouth affectation. Nicholson was a great Joker, but I have to concur with Supersprynt that Heath Ledger blew it out of the water. I can't think of any actor who could top that performance. I know the role messed with his head, but man, what a note to end on.

Yes i can see the similarities in the two. Jack played a more "happy" joker while heth played the darker more insane joker. I had not noticed the lip smacking think untill you said that. OMG if the have the balls to put mr. freeze it it hats off to them but i will give up batman forever lol

The Dark Knight

1. Awesome film
2. Could have knocked out 45minutes of the end out, and left out the part with the Joker visiting Harvey in the hospital (and use that for the beginning of the next installment, just like they started this one with the end of The Beginning with Scarecrow getting locked up)
3. When BATMAN talks "Gee Mr. Batman, would you like a drink of water? Your throat sounds dry as funk!", seemed a bit much. The voice I guess was an attempt to be like the cartoons, as all the batman characters sort of did, but WOW.... This one make me actually finish all my Large Soda which I never do in a movie.

The only things I have to say about it. I can see why this film has been dominating though, and no one can deny it once you have seen the film with an open mind and it's full view.

Been waiting to open this thread since it was started, but never did b/c I prefer unbiased opinion before going into the theater...Finally saw it tonight, and it was very very well done! Originally I had thought that Heath's role as The Joker wouldn't be as good as Jack's was, but after seeing the movie I think he was much better at it. If given another chance I'd definately go see this movie again. I agree it's not the best movies of all time, but definately one of the best all year so far.

spoiler: I agree with the fact they could have cut out some of Two Face's time in this one and left it more open for the next one. We all know that they will still use him as one of the main characters in the next movie though (whenever that comes out).

If you saw the script it says he's dead. The way they set it up, there's no reason for him to come back. There might be a lot more to the story, but this is the movies. Look at the scarecrow, there's a lot more to him and he was in TDK for 2 seconds. Having him come back would ruin the whole point of TDK.

I'm not saying that they will for sure bring him back for the next one or some Batman movie in the future (who knows how many more they are going to make lol)..Just that most of the focus of this one was on The Joker as far as villans go, so it wouldn't surprise me that they would bring Two Face back at some point in the future just as a little surprise to the audience. IMO, he's one of the main villan characters in the series and so they should give him some more screen time.

I can see where your coming from, but I would be VERY surprised if Nolan brought him back to life, and disappointed. There are plenty more villains for movies, Johnny Depp is already being rumored as an idea for the riddler.

Been hearing that all day - not sure how I feel about that one as big of a star as he is and his association with Tim Burton type movies. I really dig him as an actor tho and he seems like a really cool guy in interviews.

That doesn't mean I do not like Dark night! Maybe I just wanted to see bit more according to "bank scene" teaser wink.gif
