Hey i got me a 94 celica hatch back [pics] and i was curious what do you think would be good to do to it...

It has 200x miles
Engine and everything runs smooth
Except the idle kind of shakes alot..
Interior is kinda crap
Paint seems fine
Ill need some rims

Im kind of looking to improve the performance a little..
Definitely want to improve the look of the car
And im not the smartest when it comes to cars but i know the basics

Suggestions?

Don't waste your money on an intake and header. Yes they are cheap mods and will make your car sound better and maybe 2 ponies. But IMO go big or go home. 3s swap. Either that or do the exterior and interior up. Its either all show no go. Or Go and no Show. Or if you've got deep pockets, both.

I actually thought about dropping in a nice 3sgte engine once i get enought cash, but that would cost me alot so rims and paint are first

I already got new seats and cleaned the whole interior

lol and forget increase performance a little i want my car to go fast! lol

If you want it to go fast then sell it and get a GT and THEN swap in your 3s

Or, give it a tune up, belts, hoses, figure out why it shudders, learn how to work on it and swap in the 20v. But then I'm biased. wink.gif

Seriously though, if you want an ST and you want it to go fast you should look into a 4A or into turbo-ing the 7A you already have.

Honestly, when I swap it will be to a 20V 4A-GE Silvertop. It puts down a claimed 160HP on 1.6L displacement and I think that will make our cars lose a bit of weight too. Plus you can run open ITBs. The Yelli Celi had that and its like the god of all STs. 4A-GZE(supercharged 4a) is good too since it can handle a lot of boost. Just switch out the supercharger for a turbo charger OR twin charge it. You could also swap heads from the 4A-GE onto your 7A-FE. You need the 4A piston tops, a porsche timing belt and maybe some stronger con rods but it will put out some pretty good power... That as well can be boosted. OR you can build the wiki myth 9A-GE by using a 7A block, 1zz crank, 2zz rods ca-18 pistons and a 4a head.. Of course it probably doesn't exist..

After that you would need to start considering the S engines, which are problematic because you need to swap motor mounts, shift linkage, transmissions and probably a whole bunch of other stuff. Probably easier to buy a GT at this point.

Well my 7a has 200x miles on it so its gonna have to go

And whats better about the 4AGZE than the 3S GTE?

well, for starters, the 4A-GZE is a direct swap. Secondly, to get a 3S-GTE you would probably need a complete front clip from an ST205 so you can get the engine and transmission mounts, plus you would need to source a transmission aswell I think, since the ST205's is AWD.

Its just a bit more of a logical choice for an ST if you want to swap. If you really want to put down some insane HP figures by all means get a 3S-GTE. There's also the option of a V6 if you want to consider that aswell. wink.gif

Yeah but thats the 20V Silvertop. If I remember correctly there's about 5 iterations of N/A (NOT including Altlantic Spec and JGTC) and 2 of Supercharged.

Here they are:
16V blue-top big-port(black and blue writing) 115hp
16V red-top big-port(black and red writing)
16V red-top small-port(only red writing) 140hp
20V silver-top 160hp
20V black-top 170hp
16V Early 4A-GZE 145HP
16V Latter 4A-GZE 165HP

So depending on what you want to build you have to consider different ones.

The 16V big-port engines and the 4A-GZE are all good for boost. the Big ports have higher compression though but they are abundant. People do turbo the 20V but you would need to find some lower compression pistons since the compression ratios are 10.5:1 on the silver and 11:0 on the blacktop and it has VVT.

If you want to build a naturally aspirated street car you would focus on the 16V Red-top, 20V Silver-top and 20V Black-top. I've heard that the Black-top is weaker internally [citation needed wink.gif ] so most people usually focus on the Silver-top, expecting to add some power later on. There's a lot of people with a silver-top tucked under their hood here, so you could probably find all the info you need on this one. The first blue-top is also known for being a good street engine, the problem is that its hp is much lower to begin with so you need to do a bit of extra work to bring it up and if you leave it stock its not worth swapping, 10hp max gain on your 7A-FE or 5hp if you have a euro 7A and a loss in torque (1ft·lbf)

This post is getting too long, but that's some info on A engines.

Someone needs to verify that the **** I am saying is correct wink.gif

I am not too sure the would want that kind of business at a dealership (Swapping questionably legal JDM parts on a USDM car wink.gif ) and I'm not too sure you would want to pay the labour on an engine swap. (up here is 80-120$/h for dealer work)

The best way is to do what CelicaST_CALI suggested and talk to some local members or get some friends together do help you out. Of course you will need an engine crane and you could probably use an engine stand (for prep work)
