i was thinking about taking out the back seat of my car because i never usually have more than 1 person in my car anyways and if it is worth it i think it would be nice.

but is it easy to take out? and does it really make the car lighter or can u not notice it? what are your opinions?

I took mine out of my last car for the stereo. I take it you have coupe. It shouldn't be too hard to get out if your somewhat mechanically inclined.

i took my backseat out , mainly at first becuz i hated packing my car.. but when i decided to make it a show car i built a custom subwoofer enclosure from the back seat area toward the rear... 1/2 plexy.. ... the back seat is easy to take out... but unless u got a sick idea.. just fold it down and leave it down... tell people its a 2 seater wink.gif

I took mine out because all my friends are over 6 feet tall and they didn't fit anyway. The hardly weigh anything....but I laid some replacement carpet over it and it looks really good all under 10 bucks, looks more sporty. I'll post some pics if you want to see how it looks if you are considering it.

I'd like to see how it looks as well. My car sounds so much better without backseats because I have a coupe, and my lower backseat part is ruined anyway and no-one can sit behind the passenger seat.

how easy do you think it would be to build over the folded seats with something temporary?
so that you get the space and looks required but at the same time you can get the seats back if required with relative ease.
you know, just remove a layer then fold seats back up instaed of taking the whole thing out and puttin it back in. smile.gif

were I going to auto-X on a weekend, even the passenger seat would come out! And on a coupe,I don't know if it would look right or not... A hatch would probably look really good though.

ive seen the back seat of a 6gc taken out before. it looks really good and kinda unique in a way. i would do it if i had a reason to. the one i saw had NOS in the back and that is why it was taken out. then he had some type of glass that separated the trunk from the back seat area. looked nice.

Sorry to dig the topic back up, but does anyone have pictures? Also, how exactly would you go about doing this? I've really been considering it because it sounds like a fun 'mod' to do.

if you just go in the back of your car and try it, you should figure it out quite easily. on my 5th gen, the bench seat pops out by pressing 2 levers (one on each side) under the bench in the front, which totally dislodges that seat. The backing is merely held on by a bracket containing 5 bolts (3 to the floor, 1 to each back), and another bracket on each side of each seperate back piece with another bracket. Wow, that is confusing, so I will post pics soon wink.gif

to 6gencelicasrule, i think you should do it if you don't mind the ugly look of not having the back seats in. however, if you custom make something to cover the ugliness, go for it. It's roughly 41 pounds from my car (seems like a lot less), and I'm sure that the 6th gen is about the same weight wise. I noticed a difference in acceleration and handling, but this was only minor.

Lightening you car by any means is good in so many ways. However, do realize that rear seat removal will yield higher road noise levels.

I pulled my coupe's back seat out, and all my trunk liner. It's definitely louder in the vehicle, especially with some of the insulation removed. Promised myself that I was going to build a nice divider to separate the cabin from the trunk, but laziness got the better of me. Car is lighter without seats/trunk crap/spare, and I kinda like the way it looks. I can take pics if desired...
