Okay. It's late. 2:30 am..

I just went to the gas station for a pack of smokes. When I was getting
out of my car, I hear what sounded like an import pulling into the parking
lot.

I look and see this local hillbilly dude in his Ford Contour. He threw on some
performance, honda-esque muffler, took the hubcaps off his wheels, sprayed
them black, and put some racing stickers in his rear windows.

I'm anything but a "car bully"...but are these people for real? I would feel
like the biggest ass driving around in a fraudulent "street racer"...

The only thing he was missing was the cardboard body kit.

I seriously laughed out loud in the parking lot. It's insulting to those of us
who spend every day under our hoods and in our cars.

Oh crap!! What kind of smokes did you get?

laugh.gif

Just playin tongue.gif

For real though, i know what you mean. I live in the cheapest section of the "Rich-People" side of town. (mostly new-money) and i see this kind of thing all day long. Apart from an armada of mustangs... There are some pretty radical grocery-getters; and i find myself laughing too.

Once time, i had just pulled in at a kroger, and a man rolling in an early 90's Geo-Metro (pretty riced out) asked me if i wanted to race... laugh.gif ... I told him "Why, We're already at the grocery store? Were will we race? To the pharmacy or day-care?" laugh.gif Granted the joke went right over his head... so i gave him my "Attack on the track" saying, and he called me a pus and burned out. I giggled... Kid must have been like 17 or something. I though he would have been better off trying to pull a "Hey Mister" than trying to street-race at noonish on a sunday rolleyes.gif What a retard...

We actually had a geo metro in town with a turbo and was rumored to be fast and ran 12's. I used to joke around about it when I seen it. The guy lived on my block and had a body kit for it. Turns out he was the real deal, as a guy who builds cars that lives across the street from me named Mike knew of him and sold the guy the parts. But I get what you guys are saying. Not exactly sure how the mods are going to feel about this thread being "existent" though.

Rice doesn't bother me (look at my screen name, tongue.gif) because we all have to start from somewhere (unless we were born into money, which I don't think 99% of us were).

When I was in college, I rode in a Civic. I was poor as dirt, but when I upgraded from my steelies to 15" alloy rims (yes, 15"!) I was thrilled. They were from a stock later edition Civic, but that was all I could afford at the time.

Later I bought $20 seat covers from Costco and again, was quite happy with the change that it made.

It wasn't until much later did I learn what the term RICE meant, but unless you ride in Lambos, Ferraris, etc, I don't think you have any business calling someone's ride cheap.

Hell, I still consider my [current] cars RICE, but only in the sense that they are modded in a way that many people think is poor in taste.

I think D-Man and I need a 7-11 to hang out in front of. biggrin.gif

I understand the rodded geo and all that...my thing is that I saw
this car the day before and it was completely "stock"..
Meaning - he tossed the muffler and the racing stickers on over
night. I doubt he had time to turbo it or do any real mods for that
matter.

Personally, I just couldn't drive around with such pretentiousness.
Again, I think it's insulting to the people who actually work on
their cars regularly. We could have bought a bunch of stickers
and called it a day too.

As far as the budget issue goes - I have an eight month old boy
and my celi is my DD. I'm on a serious budget...so if my car was
stock, there's no way I'd stick a huge "K&N" sticker on my back
window. I'd save my quarters.

The money spent on wheel paint, hotrod stickers and a cheap
exhaust could have covered an intake. That's a start, right?

I cant remember the last time i almost fell over from pointing and laughing so hard... The owner didnt think it was nearly as funny though :\

I think some of it might be for irony too.

My buddy has a dodge shadow daily driver and every time he finds some cheap-ass ricer esque part he adds it to his car. Its pretty funny to see him roll around in that thing. Its pretty hilarious how many people think he's serious about that car tongue.gif

I once tricked out an 85 cougar with a "ghetto" Theme. Back when the rappers were talking about "Wood Grain" I actualy had some left over wood paneling for my trailor skirt, and did some interior work with it laugh.gif

There was also someone who had said something about "chain legnth" and i wound up with this:

I also put carpet across the dash and doors and put stick-velcro on everything i owned (cell phone; Keys*; ect.) and would stick my stuff in award places laugh.gif

EDIT:

YOU SHOULD NOTE THE V8 5.O SUPERCHARGED ENGINE I HAD IN THIS BEAST THOUGH!!

actually...

Status = Blown the fcuk up.

after i started getting some problems from it; (and my gal was B!TCHEN like crazy) I wanted to get into a newer car, that's when i bought my 03 Cougar. So i got it to run just good enough, went to the track, smoked a couple of big names (including a very pretty trans-am), Pulled into the racers parking lot, Stood on it, and yelled "$5,000 Cash, Who Wants it?"

Sold that ugly thing for 3 1/2 grand; took me less than 10 minutes. laugh.gif Put that money down on a new 03' cougar tongue.gif

EDIT: i used some of that dough, and tricked the crap out of that new cougar. Too bad it was stolen and molested though frown.gif Funny thing is, the 85' had no keys. the cylinder was bad, so i replaced it with a direct PUSH button. That's it, just push the button and it started. No body jacked with it. For years, no one did anything to it... but i leave the pretty one on the street ONE TIME, and it's gone... W/ working keys, ignition, and alarm and everything... WTF?! mad.gif

Oh dude, around here (Detroit), they absolutely hate anything that isn't part of the Big Three.
I think one reason they attack Japanese cars is because it's embarrasing for them when they
get beat by one.

Anything Japanese is called a "rice burner" around here.

I see 30 bumper stickers a day that say, "Out Of A Job Yet? Keep Buying Foreign"..
That's no exaggeration. At least 30.

I named my car Spitrod because people hate her...and because she's actually been
spit on around here before.

I think there's a limit to "personal taste" and just something terrible...there's plenty of examples of that, like the Contour in the first post, or that crappy bondo-bodied Civic pic that was going around.

Personally though, I think proper paint makes a big difference. There's a giant gap between trying to make something rusty look nice, than putting something nice on an already nice vehicle. biggrin.gif

frown.gif Its amazing how much changes by crossing the border. I'm only like 3 hours away from Detroit and its a completely different environment up here. Thanks kind of scary though, nobody should feel the need to dis/hock on another person's ride just because they won't work for as little as Mexican Workers and because they don't produce economically viable vehicles. wink.gif

They where used on race cars that had flimsy and lightweight hoods that would break opening and closing if you tried to attach them normally. They actually are the attaching points. They added convenience when working on the race car because you just lifted the whole hood and set it aside.

and what exactly are the hood pins for?

actually hood pins are important but most people get them for looks

they can be usefull with carbon fiber hoods where the latch area can become weak, if it becomes weak the hood flies open or if in a front end crash a carbon fiber hood doesnt crumple like a normal alum. hood does....imagine getting your head cut off by your hood.

hood pins help keep the hood in place.

this is true.

cwm13.gif Carbon fiber is not strong enough to withstand the crash, It's not strong enough to go thru the glass and the windshield arms, and quite frankly, Unless you've got a really good solid filled in hood (witch would defeat the weight reduction; and none are built solid that way) I don think it'd even be able to withstand the strength of your neck laugh.gif

You're right about hood pins though, They are designed for CF, FG, or KVLR hoods, And designed to keep them down. Most of these weight reduced hoods do not even have the ability to use the standard latch. They'll rely strictly on hood pins.

Bottome line, Hoodpins keep your hood pinned down.

I am aware of what hood pins are used for, I was questioning his use of the hood pins on a stock hood. Is the hood latch broken? If so why not just get a new one from the dealer for like $25? That's probably about what it cost for the hood pins anyway, right?

Have you ever seen Nick Burns - Your Company's Computer Guy on SNL?
Some of you fit the profile to a tee.

I was pointing out domestics dolled up like something else..

I don't give a sh*t what you think of my car. If I see one more Celica with
the same hood and bumper swap to make it look like a GT4, I'm going to
puke. Not to mention all the other crap.

So now, I'm taking the high road on you all.

later.

ok time to comment smile.gif

I have a GT-Four hood and bumper, are you gonna puke when you see my car ?
I also have a 3sgte from an st205 under the hood...still make you feel sick ?

What I don't have is this cheezy JC Whitney scoop

or hood pins for a stock hood confused.gif

What, Is your latch broken ? can't pony (pun) up the $30 for a new one from the dealer ? Instead you have hood pins (probably fake) because it looks like one of the pins is attached to the top of your cruise control actuator.

Also what exactly is "high beam grills" <-- as listed in your profile ?!?!?!??

when you make fun of ricers and have some rice mods yourself, then this happens

This site is generally very fair and good, no flame suits needed, because bashing other cars isn't something we do here...until someone makes a post like this biggrin.gif
sorry bro but you brought this onto yourself.

I'm done, I think he understands now.

I was originally making fun of racing STICKERS on a domestic. I was originally saying
that the over night mods don't warrant racing stickers. Get it?

Man, trying to keep cool doesn't work...

That being said,
The F'n hood pins are real. They came with the hood. The scoop works.

Celicas are fun, reliable cars that are fun to work on. I'm not a teenager or
some 20 something kid. I'm not DILLUTED about what my Celica really is.
You can do whatever you want to them. They're FWD and still Celicas.

Why? You wanna loan me 30 bucks for a latch, jack-hole?

jack-hole ? that's not nice.

maybe you should of spent the $30 on a latch instead of a cool hood scoop, I guess it's all about priorities.
Even if the hood pins are real, they have no business being there, that just makes you look like a fool for having them when they're not needed in any way.

show some pics of how the pins are installed to the car (not just the hood), and pics of the "high beam grills".
Put all of us haters to bed.

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been shut down...not to mention any names, but if it were anyone else participating in this flame-war, this thread would have been locked a week ago...

But to OP, nvm what people say 'bout your car. Like what others have said, everyone is entitled to their own style. What separates true "ricers" and enthusiasts is the amount of care/effort they put into modding their cars. Ricers half-ass their mods and end up making their cars look "cheap". But anyone who puts in their own time/effort to make ANY mod (no matter how ridiculous it may seem), is an enthusiast in my book.
