What material is the valve cover gasket made out of???

AFAIK it's a synthetic rubber compound (has to be oil immune)

The gasket is pretty much rubber. You can get them at almost any auto store. I believe that felpro makes one (thats what mine is, dealership were out for the time). Also some FIPG wouldnt hurt either.
