Ok so today i just went under the knife and had my wisom teeth cut out. the way they knocked me out was crazy haha. he put like 5 different shots in me and i was like what if this doesnt work and once he talked everything sounded like a robotic echo. i heard the rubber gloves put on adn all this talking that was robotic. but he said that if it doesnt work they have a big mallet in the back and i chuckled at the joke and i dont remember anyhting after that. my mom was there to be my DD cause once u wake up from this stuff u have no idea what was goin on. i guess i hugged the once hot nurse and kept hittin on her. and then i would swear sometimes and told them about my tattoo and all this stuff. i dont remember any of it. But after the fun was over everything started to get worse. IT SUCKS haveing them taken out. i look like a damn chipmonk and i cant eat my hard foods i love so much frown.gif But anyway, iw as jsut wondering who on 6gc had them out and if they ahd any funny stories or horror stories about em

Lol, I had mine out. No great story but it was the week of my birthday so it mega sucked. Anyway it took like a week before i could move my mouth properly again. And uh i think a side effect is sometimes your Jaw gets out of wack and clicks alot, mine does, or used to, it hasnt done it much recently.

I had all four of mine taken out in the morning, three of which were impacted. I was fine once I woke up and was working on my car 30 minutes later. My jaw was slightly sore the next day, but not enough to bug me or tempt me to even take Tylenol.

I think I just got lucky, or am resistant to pain or something.

I had all four done in a day, horrible experience, they had like 12 shots, the first incision to the back, i felt it and was like owww, 4 more shots to numb, then digging deep to get them out...i wish he put me under but he wasn't like that. not as bad as having 8 baby teeth pulled out.

I had mine taken out a few years back... All 4 surgically removed at once. lol
When I was knocked out I just remember my vision going black and I sat up suddenly and they pushed me back down to relax - after that I dont remember much lol My dad says on the way home, I was drooling and spitting blood everywhere in the truck, and go figure laughing about it. rolleyes.gif

But like the moment I got home, I guess I was suppose to take a vicodin, but because my mouth was so swollen and numb, I couldn't even take the pill, so my dad kept pestering me to take it and I guess I blew up on him and told him off in a not so nice way... I used some very colorful vocabulary on him which is something I'd NEVER do in a million years because I have so much respect for my dad haha

Also... During that couple week period of where I was all hyped up on vicodin, somewhere along the line me and my boyfriend started talking. Like around that time before we started dating, it was about a year since we've talked so I knew who he was - just not very well; but thanks to vicodin I lost all inhibitions and opened up quickly about who I am. Which is not like me because I'm usually so shy. Now that I think of it I was probably on vicodin on our 1st date... But I guess my goofy drugged up self didn't scare him away, we've been together for almost 3 years now. laugh.gif

Oh wisdom teeth... crappy but good times...

I got all for of mine taken out at the same time too. They had me on laughing gas then have me an anesthetic (sp) and I don't remember anything after that really. Started talking basketball w the doctor and passed out in mid sentence. Woke up laughing, ended up getting sick, apparently I'm allergic to the anesthetic. . But everything turned out great, had some pain but not too bad

Had mine taken out, loved the gas they used to knock me out (Whatever it was) and had all four taken out the same day. Then I had to use those swabs in my mouth, and they said not to smoke, but I did anyways. LOL Never was a problem.

I had mine done at once also, but I didn't want to be knocked out because I didn't trust the guy and being knocked out for dental work just seemed, well, kinda being a pussy. (Granted I've had one cavity in my entire life, and I was 33 when I got it)

So I got a nitrous mask and a running IV of valium. It was seriously the best high I've ever had in my life. The oral surgeon guy was like "What do you drink when you're out with your friends" right when he stuck the needle in my arm. I was 19 at the time, so I thought it was a trick question, so I was like Nothing? He says "no, really, what do you drink?" and I told him Heinekin and he says "I just gave you a six pack of Heinekin" and pushes the syringe. Before he even finished the sentence it felt like a wave washed over me, and "woah" was about all I could muster through what was probably a really stoooopid grin. Then they put the nitrous mask on me, which I never did feel. At one point after they'd gotten 2 of my teeth out, the nurse and surgeon were turned away and the mask fell off of me, and I was pointing at it and laughing my ass off and they totally freaked out, afraid I'd start feeling something. I told them I didn't feel the nitrous to begin with but that I could see why people get addicted to valium. (Yes I could still talk - remember, I felt NOTHING at this point!) I even had them give me a hand mirror so I could watch them cut open my gums and pull the teeth out. Have you ever seen your own jaw bone? It's REALLY REALLY white, especially with all that blood. It was cool as hell. Way excellent.

Then they went to remove the impacted one that brought me there in the first place. It started out okay, but then, well, it was stuck. Really really stuck. They had these special tooth pulling plyers, and I swear to god the nurse AND the doc had a hold of the plyers and were pulling really damn hard - I could feel the pressure from it all the way up my face bones and through my forehead, and suddenly I TOTALLY freaked and cried like a bitch. I made them stop for a minute - seriously, I was like 4-year old crying and heaving. It was awful (although really funny when I look back on it). Of course they freaked too, worried that it hurt. It didn't even hurt. It just freaked me out or something, I don't even know why I was crying, but I couldn't help it. So once I stopped they went on and everything else was fine.

And yeah, that codine sh*t doesn't work worth a damn. You gotta just tough it out for a few days. I even wound up taking my own stitches out (they don't dissolve well if the knot is too big).

i had all 4 of mine taken out in the morning, after my mom brought me home and a couple hours of tv I was pretty much back to normal. Im not sure if im jsut used to surgeries (had a big knee operation thing and some stuff) or if im jsut used to pain or what. Ive heard more stories about them hurting a lot more than stories like mine or coomer's

Pulled?! Not cut out, but Pulled?! Are you serious>?! I had mine cut out. Dude, I feel for you. If you just meant getting cut out, then don't trip. The drugs work good. I didn't hurt and didn't need pills, but I bled like crazy! Plus I kept smoking, so....... yeah.... Too longer for the wounds to heal over that one.

lucky u guys..
they numbed my mouth and had at it with what looked like a mini battle axe and some mini scythes. yes i was awake, no pain at the moment but i felt the flesh in my mouth being torn and felt my gums bleed and rip. at one point the doctor had to use the chair for leverage to pull my tooth out and i felt his body weight yanking at my mouth. i knew that s*it was gunna hurt so bad afterward but i just endured it..

and the best part is afterwards, no vike, nothing, i got tylenol and thats it, i couldnt go out for days and i couldnt eat anything. i felt like i got punched in the face by a bodybuilder.

if its an option to get knocked out or gassed, i'd say GET THAT OPTION. and if u can get them surgically removed instead of yanked out too, get that option.

by the way, mine were still inside my gums so.. its not like they just pulled it out.. they had to cut my gums open to get at them... yes.

oh yeah! at one point one wouldnt come out so he used a DRILL. i felt like i had a fvking powerdrill in my mouth. afterwards he used one of those small rotating saw blades to cut the rest out...

FUN STUFF! biggrin.gif

All four at once back in the day. Knocked out, woke up at some point and just saw the dentists eyes and my head moving from left to right a few times (pulling hard im guessing). Next thing i knew he was sittin me up and saying "here rinse", of course i drooled all over myself and went home. laugh.gif

WORST PAIN EVER AFTER! I dont know, maybe cuz i did it way back in the day when they sucked at it but it hurt like hell after. For like three days i didnt eat, i got desperate and blended McDonalds french frys and drank them! While half chewing and half drinking i spit out a giant chunk of gauze i guess he missed in my mouth that came loose.... sick. cwm13.gif

^ IIRC we're about the same age, aren't we? With birthdays like a day apart? You shoulda had your work done in Brooklyn. What I failed to mention in my long-ass essay was the reason I didn't want to be knocked out. The Dr that did the job in the consult said "I can get you anything. Anything." I mean we're talking pharmaceutical cocaine and what-not. I just didn't want any part of it, so I opted to be awake. I had a great rack back in the day wink.gif and didn't need some creepy-ass shady mofo weirdo dentist exploring that side of me or something. laugh.gif

I did the same thing which freaked my mom out a lot.

I had all 4 out at once & got knocked out with an IV which hurt like hell since the dumb nurse didn't put it in right the 1st time mad.gif
I argued with the doctor & nurses how IV's hurt way worse than getting tattoos till i finally got knocked out (i'm sure they were glad i got knocked out)
I remember fighting the nurse for a blanket after I woke up.
My jaw was bruised for a week afterwards.
At least I got Percodan ... it was interesting painting a house on that stuff ... made paint brushes & everything go in slow motion.

Before my wisdom teeth, when I was 13 I had to have 4 other teeth removed at once so I could get braces to fix my fcuked up teeth ... My pointy upper teeth were stuck up in my gums & I looked like a vampire kindasad.gif

They knocked me out for the procedure. I remember the doctor telling me to count backwards from 10 when giving me the anesthesia. And in my mind I was say "fight it, see how long you can stay awake!" The last number I remember saying was 4, and it was out cold.

When I started to wake up, I could feel the strings being tied to close up the incision. So over all the doctor was hardcore and timing the procedure perfectly.

Afterwards I had to go through all that nasty blood/spit and no solid food experience. yuck, so glad that was over with.

I was not asleep. That is all I will say... Sure, I was sedated but not enough and it was bad times.
They were talking about E.R.

Then they gave me valium and codiene and I got to sleep for 8 hours.

So, I got the whole procedure described to me and it sucks fat nuts.

But I opted for the jaw sedation and some premeds, it's gonna be some sort of opiate. The real question is how much I could make off of that in the street. laugh.gif

At least you got knocked out. I was wide awake when they cracked my teeth with something that looked like a crowbar. Yes, I got to hear my teeth CRACK. Then I got my neck jerked around as the dentist tried to pry the broken teeth out of their sockets. Fun.

And for pain, I got a prescription for Tylenol double strength (OTC, not even prescription). The only "good" thing about the whole ordeal was that they only needed to take out 2 of my bottom teeth and that my mouth was swollen for only 1 week afterward.

Well i had all 4 surgically removed. When i went in for my consult i brought my girlfriend with me(important later)
They just gave me some awesome gas to knock me out, when i started counting backwards from 10, i made it 9 and i was done:) I woke up sometime later in the afternoon, confused as all get out but wasnt in alot of pain. I ended up going out and disc golfing with my friends later and eating milkshakes for dinner for a few days lol

By the time i had the surgery my girlfriend and i had broken, but she still came with me and my mom to the surgery cause she is cool like that. I went to call her the next day to thank her for going with me and that it meant alot to me... it took her 4 days to return my calls... i couldnt figure out what was going on. when i she finally called be back she explained... well i guess after we got back to my house i decided i was going to walk her to her car. So how she tells the story is that i broke down and started crying telling her all this stuff about us dating and getting back together and going to college together, making her cry, and then the convo turned bad and i started calling her not nice names. Well i still dont remember any of that but i guess it happened lol

Moral of the story, dont be around anyone untill way later in the day lol

now, let's wind up the way-back machine and let me tell you how i had mine done 30 years ago.

after dealing with a nasty swollen face from a wisdom tooth trying to push through the jawbone, my MD sent me to an oral surgeon for extraction of all 4. the x-rays (yes smartass, they had be discovered. even way back then.) showed serious impaction and it was a no-brainer. so off i go to the hospital on the first day of summer vacation. to say that everything went well would be a bald-faced lie. here is a brief resume of what my MD told me they had to do to get those pesky pearly whites out of my mouth. they cut, they dug, they chipped and drilled but to no avail. at one point the surgeon was on his knees atop my chest and pulling with both hands. they managed to get it done and all they left were a couple deep (read troublesome) pockets behind 2, 15, 18 and 31--two black eyes, a face only a chipmunk's mother would love, also a bruised sternum and a sprained neck. no lie, i had to wear a brace for 4 weeks--in summer, in my 16th year, with hormones raging and teen-aged beer drinking parties to attend. luckily this all went down while i was under general anaesthesia and had really good post-op drugs (don't remember what kind, probably codeine/Valium/ASA combo).

that being said i would still go through it tomorrow rather that doing what i did to myself last month. i broke a molar (30) on a popcorn kernel. my dentist said "that should never happen" and i agreed wholeheartedly. i managed to split it longitudinally right down to the root. have you ever had an exposed dental root? it FRIGGIN' (not the word i wanted to use) hurts. i could go on but that's for another post.

so remember kids-- brush daily and floss regularly and if you need to get oral surgery done, get the best drugs your budget will allow.

peace

PS Griff, you are perfect just as you are (BTW there is no such thing as gravity...the Earth sucks!) I just wish i had bumped (oh! pun! ouch!) into you back then.
lotsa love, luv

c'ya
