We kinda talked about this in Austin last weekend about having our next big meet in March 09. smile.gif

Id like to do a two day thing its really up to you guys, we can all decide whats best together. wink.gif

Also i think Austin is a great spot for these things, the roads are just sick! I know i can speak on behalf of myself, Stephen, Ripley, Death, and Alex we had a great drive! biggrin.gif

we were kinda thinking of going to TX2K9 in Houston but more than likely aren't going due to lack of money.
so count us in for sure for our own TXCELI cruise biggrin.gif

i'm thinking we could meet somewhere & eat first, then start out & do that mega twisty lime rock run up to Marble Falls first since it takes so long ... i think it's about 2h 30min so we could do that while we are still fresh so to speak.
then we could either do the highway sprint back to Austin or do the road we did up to Marble Falls back to Austin & find a good place to all eat dinner together.
i saw on show on food network the other nite that talked about a really good bbq place in Austin called Ironworks.
it was in a building that used to be a real ironworks back in the 1930s.
the food looked really good & they had ribs & sausages, brisket etc. & most huge plate dinners were like $7 - $10 so it was reasonable.
i just need to find where its located before the meet if ya'll want to do that.

as far as a 2 day thing, hmmm we'll have to see as it gets closer, see how the bank acct looks lol & where gas prices are at then too.

I'm down. Do I even have to say that anymore?? LOL. I go to nearly every meet hah.
But I'd love a 2-2.5 day thing.
Meet friday, wake up early Saturday, do the cruise, eat and anything else we want to do. Sleep again, then either eat and leave, or another short cruise.

I think half the fun is just chillin with you guys away from the cars. Like our nights at Bastrop lol.

Sounds good - seems like every Texas meet I've ever been to was on a member's b-day. The first one back in '04 was on mine and another member's. Last time was Zero's [kind of]. What's the date?

May? Anyone game for May? I'm driving down to Vegas in May (I don't remember the date I have to be there but I can find out) and was planning to make a really really big circle by continuing on to Houston for a few days biggrin.gif There's no way I could make it in March or April though, because it's May that I HAVE to be in Vegas for a thing for my mom, and plus, the passes are still really snowy in March/April and there's no way to get out of western Oregon without going over a mountain range.

+1 It would be great to have another girl along besides Lisa & myself that love cars biggrin.gif

It won't be too hot in May + it would allow everyone who wanted to go to TX2K9 to have enough time to save money for gas/food/etc.
Besides the fact, if we push it back to May chances are much higher that Vadar would be ready to go by then. smile.gif

woohoo! After May 10th is great! I'll find out for sure when I need to be in Las Vegas, and just how far Houston is from Vegas. That'll give me an idea of when I should be able to be in Houston by.

Remember though that this is all entirely contingent on if I have enough gas money for this whole trip. As for keeping up with anyone, well... I'll be in back with D-Man biggrin.gif

Edit - I'll be behind D-Man, he's at least got a 5S laugh.gif

I've got an ST and actually kept pretty close around the twisties, its just the straight aways you gotta worry about lol

Why don't we combine this with the Dallas meet and you guys come up here? Give us North Texas guys a chance to stay in the area instead of us always having to drive down there.

First of all the only DFW guys that show up to these big Texas meets are Darthripley and Mario. So really those two are the only ones doing any driving, and im pretty sure theyll come to this as well. I think were all pretty set on Austin again, its just a sick location for a meet.

for a state-wide meet Austin is the most central location for everyone to come & the driving in the Hill Country cannot compare to roads in North Texas.
the Houston crew drives just about as far as we do to get to Austin - the mileage is comparable, so it's the most fair to everyone since Texas is a HUGE a$$ state.

Matt (GotToyota) - if you are thinking of Motorsports Ranch have you looked into how much an event costs there & how many people are necessary to sign up?
Joe & I have done it there before with the RX7 club & it wasn't exactly cheap - not saying it wasn't worth it, but not everyone driving up from Houston/San Antonio may be able to afford the gas to get up here + ~$150-200 for track time + possibly staying here + gas for the drive back home + food, drinks etc.

There's no way you can miss a blur of blue behind you. lol

A buddy of mine is selling his '04 WRX for about $18K obo. Nice cars. Plenty of room for 4, easy to drive, and you just gotta love the exhaust note those Subies spit out. Engine bay looks like a nightmare though, but that's just me.

yeah, I ain't big ballin to spend that much money plus the 8+ hour round trip. I've got family up in Richardson, but I'm not looking to barge in on them alone and I'd rather not spend money on a hotel. I much prefer the 4-5 hour round trip to Austin. Leave Houston by 8:30, be in Austin by 11-ish and still have plenty of time to do things before leaving for home around 6 like we did last time.

yeah i did smile.gif

i was gonna say hold out for an alltrac, but then i thought you'd prolly like to actually drive it more than a couple months a year so i decided not to post that lol tongue.gif

WRX's are cool cars with TONS of aftermarket support.
i would just make sure the tranny is in tip-top shape - they seem to be made of glass + tinfoil unfortunately kindasad.gif

the engine bay looks even more fun to work on than an alltrac lol

Joe got to drive an STi & said it was super nice.
we also drove a Legacy GT which i loved but those might still be kinda expensive used.

it's just a shame the SVX is such a heavy pig of a car - i've always loved those.

No offense, but it's still a drive for us Houston folks. stephen_lee makes one hell of a trip from Victoria, Tx to make it to these, so if something were to go on in Dallas, it's an even longer drive for him and I don't see how that's fair for him. And hell, gas is LESS THAN $2/gallon now and it's not like we're all driving gas guzzling 6.0L V8s and what nots, so there really shouldn't be an excuse not to make the drive unless your car blows up, or something catastrophic. Again no offense. Just my $.02

Edit: Also, if the distance is a main concern for anyone, then this cruise is definitely NOT ideal for you. As soon as everyone arrives at said destination and is ready to go after having lunch, gassing up, and what not, there will be an additional 100+ miles going along the planned route. So, if the drive is of greater reason than the experience of the cruise and getting the chance to meet new people/faces, then this cruise is definitely NOT an ideal trip for you.

Bottom line - A DFW area meet is ONLY convenient to DFW area people. As much as I would like to accommodate Joe and Ripley I bet there would be almost no chance of anyone south of Austin showing up and maybe half the people from Houston would show - maybe. In other words you'd just end up with another DFW meet with maybe a guest or two.
it's not our fault you guys decided to live in damn near Oklahoma but it's really just another hour for you guys anyway.

Spolski - NP - hope you enjoy it.

Also, if the distance is a main concern for anyone, then this cruise is definitely NOT ideal for you. As soon as everyone arrives at said destination and is ready to go after having lunch, gassing up, and what not, there will be an additional 100+ miles going along the planned route. So, if the drive is of greater reason than the experience of the cruise and getting the chance to meet new people/faces, then this cruise is definitely NOT an ideal trip for you.

exactly. well said Alex.

GotToyota, everyone who has replied to this thread is willing to make the trip to Austin no matter how far it is for them to drive & the only person complaining about it is you.
You haven't driven to any of the meets we've had in Austin so no offense, but no one wants to hear your complaining.

Death & Joe & myself don't complain about having to use Premium 93 octane even when it was $4 a gallon -- we all still made the drive out.
We all go to Austin b/c we all enjoy driving as opposed to standing around in a parking lot just doing nothing but talking and staring at our cars for hours on end.

Bottom line is the meet is going to be in Austin, you either can come or plan your own thing for people in DFW that aren't going to drive down for whatever reason.

Wrd. my Eibach Pro-kit, KYB GR-2s, and ST sway bars serve no purpose if the car's just gonna sit in a parking lot for a meet, especially one like this one.

Ooh, Austin? SWEET! I've kinda always wanted to go to Austin, I've heard it's a really cool town. As far as I'm concerned, if I make it all the way to Texas, Austin's fine. How far is Austin from Houston, anyway? I need to look at a map. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I know where Austin is. It's south of Houston, isn't it? Never mind, I looked it up tongue.gif

You guys are still thinking May though, right?

Yeah - may sounds good. Austin is mostly west of Houston but a slight bit South. I hate the fcukin place myself but it's mostly the hippy greenpeace BS that drives me away.
However, it does have the best damn driving roads ever [Next to Houston Freeways - but that's highly illegal so we NEVER do any of that wink.gif ]. It's also perfectly Central to Texas so it makes an ideal meet spot for the most people to show up to. The local Fri-Sat drag street - 6th street - is almost as well known as Bourbon Street in LA.
You'd love it Griffy. biggrin.gif

Houston freeways are FTMFW. Especialy the BIG joints between large freeways where they joint. Like from 290NW onto BeltWay 8 S. Ih man i love that one tongue.gif or from 290SE onto I-10W, I almost wiped out there once.... kindasad.gif It was raining. Scarry sh!t to spin out of control when you're 80 foot (atleast) in the air looking over the edge where there are 3 other levels of freeway and you can see the rain water is falling onto construction equipment & devestated concrete (construction Zone) right where you're about to land if those fcuking breaks don't start working soon kindasad.gif

^ exacaly what happened ^

it took a while, but after i was down the road a bit, it was kinda cool laugh.gif But that's the whole point of me taking those crosses w/e i can, because it's one lane, high High HIGH up, and you can see EVERYTHING from up there. Some of them you'll look over to 18-20 story office buildings, and relize that you're level with the roof. Freakin awesome is what it is.

CLICKY
Then check out that BIG cross section right there... that's the one i get to go on DAILY biggrin.gif the street on the top left of that intersection that's one laned, it's the HIGHEST one on that intersection, look at all the freeways and feeter roads UNDER it. Freakin awesome...

I like the jump from 610 to I-10 West. They got done with construction on that highway, so you jump from 4 lanes on 610 to I think 7 (SEVEN!!) lanes on I-10. All that stretch of road is best late at night especially that gap between Houston and Katy. Mmmm...mmmm...b***h!

My absolute favorite - always has been - is the jump from I-10 headed outbound to 610 headed north and then a fast left hand cut across 5+ lanes to hit 290W - that's some fun ass shiz right there - at any speed biggrin.gif

If you are serious we always try to schedule our meets to accommodate the most people. Pretty much why we are starting to plan now. The only big concern is Griffgirl cause if she's gonna come ALL the way from Oregon than we have to make sure it happens the weekend she is here - obviously.

Oh yeah. That's some fun busniess!!

And he's not talking about racing or doing anything stupid, You have like... a tenth of a mile to make 5-6 lanes over. Look at the map in real time. the freeway drops you off on one side, then you have to get to the otherside or you wont make your freeway exit, and you'll be on a whole nother freeway going a whole nother direction.
