So It seems we have another real st205 in the states. There is a local shop around here that is known for importing cars. A few weeks ago they brought over a black gtfour with the original 3 spoke wheels (from what ive been told). I called them up today, and verified this story, however they informed me that the car was sold about 2 weeks ago. Seems another shop just a few blocks from them bought the car. They said that if I stop buy they could have the other shop bring the car over for me to check out, so I'll try to get some pics of it.

The guy also mentioned that there are two more in a lot in japan that he is thinking of importing. He's asking price is around 14grand.

Is it completely stock? That's pretty damn awesome...IDK about 14 grand, but that's sweet. Then again, he probably spent just that much on the import I'm guessing.

No clue. Ill get more details when I go visit the shop.
But this place is well known for importing skylines, evo6s and other rare cars. So they have a way to bring them over. He mentioned that the only reason he didnt bring one before was because he didn't think there was much of a demand for it.

I think its stock. Supposed to have the fugly (super rare) oem 3 spoke wheels on it.
14k might seem like a lot of money for most of the younger guys on this site, but its totally worth it for a real gt4. Had the gt4 been sold in the states, that would probably be its resale value now.

awesommeeeee! I thought it couldn't be done, according to my interpretation of the US import laws, something like 25yrs or older no?

Well however they did it, this is great news! NOW i just need to save a few more grand wink.gif

Hey guys how about how that guy imported the gtfour over here thats sounds crazy right. But my friend works for his dad shop that makes cabinets and stuff for houses. And next door there is a shop that has imported a rhd rear wheel drive Nissan Skyline as he has registered it as a modified 240sx. So i guess it is possible you just have to know the people and have the money of course but importing a gtfour over here would be a dream!! just wouldnt want super strut suspension on it...

It would just be a bitch if you got pulled over...either a fake registration, or they'd bust it as an illegal car.

I'd take one as well. Group buy haha. That's if it's street legal.

Clean body udsm celica $2000-4000
3S swap $4-5000
AWD $$$
GT-4 front $1300
Paint $3000

$14K should be on the low side. ahah

They are imported from japan, so the steering is RHD.
The 3 spokes are rare because I dont think anyone from the usa has ever seen a set in person. smile.gif

14k is not too bad but only if in near mint cond and low miles.

Just for reference i got my 63,000 mile ST205wrc for 6000 shipped but i had to drive
4500 miles and to another country to pick up after that so lets
say 6500 from japan to my driveway. Now mine needed complete
front end replace (hood,fenders,bumper,etc..) so add 2000 for all the
parts including projectors (btw i got all the st205 parts from US Toyota
at shop price !) so we are up to 8500 now parts need paint but whole
car is getting painted so add 2500 or so ..11000 here we come.

also found a real TRD spoiler on ebay.au for 140usd and in same color
this came from a yard in japan and surpised no one caught it before me.
plus add all the 98 jdm parts you can think of (not seats or dual airbag dash though)
and were up to 12500 for a freshly painted 98 spec st205..

Now if mine wasn't wrecked by young japanese girl who loved hello kitty and skiing
then price would have been about 10000 shipped so 14000 unwrecked not bad..

As for 3 spokes .. not even cool in 1995 ...not sure what toyota was thinking ..i have them and
not so hot ..

Now i am not an importer or have any more connections to get st205s
i just happen to be in right place at the right time 5 yrs ago..

Nor do i have a "how to legalize your st205" manual or tips. It can be done
but factors such as state laws and regulations come into play. You deal 100%
with local dmv and not US government, they mainly are dealt with at port.It is much easier
to title a jdm in certain states then others..

Im in my mid 30's now and funny part was back in 94-95 i saw a st205 in a magazine and
wanted one just didn't think it would really happen 8 yrs later

I can't give specifics on anything as you need to research your states laws,
i am not trying to be secretive on unhelpful but honestly it is the truth.

First issue would be finding a st205 first.. also could consider moving to
Canada in 09' as they will be popping up there and legalized..

So is yours legal in your state? What state? I'm sure MN don't have nearly as much restrictions. There are a few jdm cars cruising around.

if i can insure register and smog the gt4 in california, i would personally go pick one up myself.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. California would probably be the worst place to try to register and smog a car like that.

This place imports cars, but I wouldn't put too much faith in them being able to 110% legalize it. Im sure they have some connections that could help you get a plate on the car or something, so that you could drive it around, but dont expect the car to be as perfectly legal as a normal celica.

I might try to head down there today or maybe sometime next week, if I have time. The place is open by appointment only, so its not like I can pop in at any time.

I doubt you'd ever get it to pass smog. Toyota stopped selling MR2 Turbos (3S-GTE) in California mid-94 because Toyota coulden't make them emmissions compliant anymore...

That said, I also would like to know how someone would go about insuring a car like this? JDM = no VIN #. I don't see how putting the VIN # off of a wrecked Celica here would help either- Once it comes time to make any type of claim you are going to get screwed... Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a GT-Four, but I’m not going to commit insurance fraud to have one. That and the fact that being RHD would most likely attract all kinds of unwanted attention from police…

Recently i fixed up a 185 group a gettin it back on the road for a friend. The car was stolen just after she bought it, we got it back and when i went to put it over the pits it seemed that the boot vin/adr (australian design rules) plates must have been flogged, Now since the car was an australian delivered car and obviously the model passed all the adr thingos back in 91 when they came in it was cleared to be regiestered etc.

This is not a real help to you guys are 205's wernt us delivered and therefore the governing body of your transport might not have them on record to clear the fact is has no usdr?? plate....but they might.

there must be some way around it because cars get imported into contries all the time that they didnt get delivered to from the factory.

none if this was terribly helpful i know, you get that.

what i will say tho the fully awsome tongue.gif stock 3 spokers are light as (6.7kg each from memory) and 16" semi's and other decent tyres are abundant so they make a great track rim.

You can pick up a non damaged working ST205 here in England for $4000 US.
How can they justify $13000 US.
A low mileage near mint WRC would be around $7500 US in England as the British £ is worth about 2 buttons at the moment

a good nick genuine Group A Rallye here is worth in the 20k region, some as much as $28 000 or so. You poms get it so good sometimes tongue.gif except for the vat, and the congestion charge, and the massivly expensive petrol, im assuming your insurance is expensive too ..... and it goes on....

you can easily afford 2 buy a car, just cant afford to take it anywhere

Yeah, but they are not going to sell you the car for cost. Shipping it alone probably costs 2000. Then they mark up the car so that they can make a profit for their trouble. Not to mention that its almost impossible to buy an st205 in the states in the first place.

ST205's are illegal in the states; I don't know why, but they are.

Emissions is a big reason they are illegal. Japan apparently has lower emissions standards than the US, and especially California. Plus real GT4's are RHD, whereas our USDM cars are LHD. Plus America gets the shaft on all the best cars kindasad.gif I know there are more reasons why the GT4 is illegal but I haven't slept well in days and I can't think of anything right now.

There were only 84 '93 CelicaTurbo All_Tracs imported and sold in '93;
the last year we got the turbo models. The price had climbed to near $25k !

Toyota did not want to import the 6g GT4 to sell fewer for even More $$ ?

Would've been a Great car though.

@ Emissions is a big reason they are illegal.

Emissions Might have Not been an issue ? The 3rd gen would've had to pass
stricter emissions stansards ?
The GT4 would've had to have been OBDII for 96+.
Might have been a problem ?

@ Plus real GT4's are RHD, whereas our USDM cars are LHD.

There are/were LHD versions of the GT4 for LHD markets, Germany, France etc...

@ Plus America gets the shaft on all the best cars

Well That is true.

There are several actual GT4's running around the states.
Plus several AWD & Turbo swaps around. smile.gif
So you could get a reasonably legit (State legit) car.
