The other day I was driving home and thinking about my car, and I thought of a question that I thought I'd ask everyone on here. It's kind of a debate, but there's really no need to argue.

Do you drive a Celica because you love it or do you love it because you drive it?

Discuss.

because all my friends drive fully built civics or integras... and they feel it when they get mopped by a barely modded celica biggrin.gif (on the track of course, legally. in no way related to street racing!)

Because its fast and rare`ish, handles like its on rails and frequently embarrasses newer cars, Scoobies, Type R`s etc etc

It handles awesomely, gets good gas, and drives damn nice. Plus, my interior is damn near perfect and I love to look at it.

I love mine cos it's the t*ts!!

Just keeps going, refuses to break and frequently wipes the floor with plenty of newer cars. The look on those losers faces when their brand new ride gets blown into the weeds by a 15 year old car! - priceless!

When I first saw it -in the late 90's, I couldn't stop thinking about the Celi, the sweeping curves and those distinct 4 headlights.
I bought a Civic saloon as my first car, but that was actually unreliable during 6 years. I eventually traded in for my dream Celica at last, will keep it as long as I can, even though it's mpg is bad.

To this day, I appreciate its beauty, and superb handling, as well as the torque in 2nd and 3rd. wink.gif

laugh.gif That's an excellent reason for loving a car. LOL.

I don't know what kinds of cars you guys are racing, but mine frequently loses. LOL. I mean, where I'm from, you either know cars or you don't. There is no middle ground. So there are stupid rednecks with the biggest lift kits and tires they can find that think because their truck has a V8 that it'll dominate my car. They lose every time. Then there are the guys that do know cars, and they either spend money right off the bat to buy a car that's actually fast (Mustang GT's, Corvette's, etc. -I hate both of those, just by the way. Different discussion for a different day.) or they spend a little bit of money to buy Civics or 240SX's and do motor swaps. I have one friend with a Civic hatchback and a K series and another friend with a 240SX and an RB20. Then there's me with my bone stock Celica. Needless to say, I lose. Bad. LOL.

In a way, that's why I started this thread lol. Like I said in my first post, do you drive your Celica because you love it or love your Celica because it's all you have?

In my case, it's the latter. My Celica is all I've got. I have it, and I completely agree with everything you guys have said. It handles great, and looks even better. But I'd rather have a mkIV Supra.

san0, I think you might have found the world's only unreliable Civic hahaha.

It's all I have...but I love what I have, so it's not really a matter that.

There are, of course, plenty of other cars I could replace this with. But for the money, it was a great buy. There's also a great charm to Celicas and the community, one of the reasons I wanna get my hands on a GT-4.

By the way, no offense to the guys on there that drive lifted trucks. I have respect for a well-built truck just the same as I respect any well-built Celica. But well-built trucks don't exist around here where I live. It's just people buying trucks then shopping on Ebay for the biggest lift.

Rick James, I know what you mean. There is a great community surround Celicas. I have yet to meet or talk to a Celica owner that I hate or even dislike just a little bit. I liked 7th Gen Celicas until I got my 6th Gen. Until I got it, they were just a car that when I saw one I was like well, it's kinda neat, I guess. But as soon as I heard a 6th gen was up for sale, I grabbed it and never regretted it. Now when I look at 7th gens, I think they look like a cheap beater car that parents buy their kids to go off to college in.

Maybe that's because every 7th gen I see is a cheap beater car that parents bought their kids to go off to college in though. tongue.gif

I like 7th gens too, but the 6th gen just looks and feels like a much more expensive car to me. I've had people ask if I own a 2007-08 model Celica biggrin.gif Not bad for an 11 year old beater lol

Yeah really. Can't place my finger on it, but I feel like the 6GC is just much better than the 7GC. Plus, the 7GC's are just girly.

Hands down the best thing I've heard all day. I'm kinda scared of what D-Man's PM says, but I'm genuinely intrigued and somewhat curious.

Not that I don't think the 6th Gen's aren't girly, but I completely agree that the 7th gen is more feminine. I think the 6th Gen has more potential than the 7th gen does too. For example, we have the 3SGE BEAMS and 3SGTE, but I can't think of any motors for the 7th gen. I don't think there was a GT4 version of it. I think the 2ZZFE was about the best you could get for it. NOTE: I have NEVER done any research on the 7th gen. For all I know, there is a LOT more you could do with it than a 6th gen.

I think you're right, but I wasn't really talking engine-wise, more along the lines of exterior styling. And the 7GC interior is also pretty fugly IMO.

But engine-wise, a 6GC GT-Four is disgusting as hell...I've never driven one, but I would love to have one. ****, I've never even seen one in person.

That's so true... I love Griffgirl's signature. "Our cars the chick magnets for the budget conscious." I don't remember who said that but it's true!

At first when you said it had boobs I thought you meant it was just a really girly car lol.

But uh.. The problem is I'm 19 and live in a relatively secluded area of the US. The boobs that my car attracts are usually 12 years old. Gay!!!

Whoa, hey, trying to not go to prison here.. Lol. I'm not having a problem getting the 12 year old boobs (or lack thereof) but hey, maybe one day it'll change lol. Besides, I've got a great girlfriend and I wouldn't change that for anything. Let the 12 year olds stare! They can find other guys with Celicas. They'll all end up on a street corner with AIDS someday.

i love my Celica cause its somewhat rare compared to your avg civic, integra, w/e that you see everyday. When people see my car i can see their heads turn to look at it. The styling is amazing, just like the supra, so curvy and wonderful. The celi somehow manages to outrun other cars in the same class as it, how I don't know. and its extremely reliable. I wouldn't hesitate for one second if I needed to take this car across the country and back again.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I'm not getting either. The girlfriend and I aren't like that and my car has actually been behaving lately smile.gif

I love my Celica because it's all I have, and it's more than a lot of other people have. It's a head turner wherever I go because I have one of only 6 within a 50 mile radius, and although mine needs work, it's still the cleanest. I'm the only person that cares about mine and sees it as more than a means of transportation. It's a rare car where I am, and I guess it was quick for 1998 but now I can think of family cars that will outrun it. But it still LOOKS faster!

Side note, since I don't want to start a new thread, but I know Lexus actually designed the mkIV Supra, not Toyota. Did they have anything to do with the 6th gen Celica? I'm just curious because they look so similar.

Whats your source for that?

From what I understand, Lexus was originally created by toyota for the US "luxury" market, so technically isn't anything lexus designed in fact toyota designed, since its like a parent company? Or do they operate separately?

I'll try to find that article again.

Lexus was in fact started by Toyota for the US luxury market, like you said, so in a way Toyota did design the Supra. But it was engineers working for Lexus as I understand the article. Like I said, I'll try to find that article again.

I knew they had lift, but I've never seen a supercharged 7th Gen. That's pretty nice, actually. There are 2 7th Gen's where I live, and they only like them because of the styling. I went to school with one of the girls and she had a gay body kit put on it because she thought it looked good. She destroyed that body kit driving on a back road once, and duct taped it back together. Yeah, she was real cool. She swears up and down that it's a GT-S but it's only a GT automatic.

man, the only person who's ever hated on my Celica was some jealous punk that wanted to get with my girl. Everyone likes the look. Its fun to drive. The interior is way better than an integra's. biggrin.gif When nothing else can make me feel good, i jump in my Celica and let those rpms fly. That always makes my day thumbsup.gif

that made me laugh, because they dont rev at all tongue.gif

i beat my car bad but it keeps going, i flat foot shift all the time. it was a CHEAP daily/beater so i cant complain. most recent maintenance was an exhaust manifold. which took about 5 minutes to swap out( cracked between runner 2 &3)
cheap, simple and easy to work on.

this is easy for me... I drive it because I love it... I had chance to have Nissan 250 or Mitsubishi Eclipse... And I have chosen Celica.

I love my Celica because it's reliable no matter how hard i am on it, 174000 miles and burns no oil, will do 125-130 on the highway smile.gif, it handles amazingly, i beat Subaru STI's and many other high end cars in autocross. I also like the body style, smooth and sleek from front to back. Another good thing is its good on gas, i've been able to achieve up to 600 miles to a tank of gas or about 35mpg. One thing about the handling I like is its sticks to the road.

I do love my car, in all its plain and stock glory. biggrin.gif

However minor it might seem, I did put a new HU and speakers in with my dad, and I'm proud of that. biggrin.gif

Rick James, that's more than a lot of people can say. The head unit swap isn't too hard, but the front speakers take a little modification. It was pretty time consuming when I fabricated the brackets to mount my 6.5" speakers in an 8" hole, so you should be pretty proud of yourself! But yeah, mine is stock too, nothing wrong with that!

The reason I love my Celica is simple. It's all I have, and it's more than a lot of people have. Despite it's problems and all the grief it's caused me, I can call it my own. I want other cars, but the out of the options I had when I bought this car, the Celica is definitely the best car. Just think, I could be driving a late 90's Eclipse lol. Nothing against those, but they were just kinda cheaply built. So my Celica is more car than I could have ended up with.

^ Couldn't agree more...I could've looked longer and gotten something potentially better, but for a first car, I think this is damn fine. And I ended up getting some aftermarket brackets...the rears were a bitch to put in though.

Drove again today after a couple days of her sitting in the garage...and I just had a little reminder why I love her so much...drives smooth, handles lightly (accelerates lightly, sadly), but overall is awesome to drive. <3

After I wrecked my first Celica, there were a LOT of cars that I looked at and almost ended up getting, including a Supra, a 350Z, and an S2K. All of which I wanted VERY VERY BADLY. All of which I'd still rather have than is p.o.s. beater Celica that I ended up with. (My first Celica was a lot better.) But my parents decided to save my money... Funny, I worked for it but they got to spend it... -_- Could've driven 60 miles to get a Supra, my dream car, but instead we drove 300 miles to get a car that by my math, I've had to spend a LOT more on with repairs than any of the other cars would have cost me.

But for some strange reason that I can't explain, I love my incredibly slow, very expensive, highly unreliable, poor handling (it's hit a few too many pot holes and the steering isn't as tight as it should be,) always dirty, deer attracting Celica.

^^^ None of that is exaggerated. Except the part where I said I love it. Lol.

So why not get rid of it and look for a better Celica if you hate this one, but loved your other one?

Can't. The car is in my parents' name instead of my own, so I'm pretty much at their mercy with it. And they don't have to drive it and have never paid repairs on it, so they could care less about it and don't believe me anyway when something goes wrong. So I'm pretty much on my own with it. You'd think they'd notice that maybe my car actually IS broken down when I'm being forced to borrow their cars.

Besides, even if I could sell it and get another car, I had about $15,000 saved up when I bought this car. I was doing alright for myself, and bought this. I paid $7400 for this car, so in theory I had plenty of money left. But all the rest of that is gone to repairs and now I'm completely broke.

If I would have known that, I would have just done a BEAMS swap right as soon as I got the car.
