Okay so heres the deal. My car is a 94 ST with a swapped in 7A (blew the other one up long story). So about a week ago I parked in front of my girlfriends house for about 3 hours, and when I came out to head home I got in my car and tried to start it. There was just one click and nothing else. My cooling fans turned on so some reason and now will not shut off until the key is in the off position.
So far I've replaced-
Ignition Switch
Starter
Starter Relay and Fuse

And now I am at my wits end to figure out what this is. The clutch safety switch is good.
I've already searched the threads and came up with the same thing "change your starter". I did and it still dosen't work.
So if anyione has had this same problem could you let a guy know what you did to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Rick

Where did you get your new starter from??How much did you pay for it?

Can u make it clip multiple times??say u try it once, click, then try again, click, then try again, click, try it again and finally it turns?.does it eventually start after you click it multiple times?

The starter was 174 minus a 50 dollar core charge. I got it from napa. The starter will only click once. And then nothing. Well except for the fans turning on at full speed. Once you roll the key back to off and then try again. Nothing will happen except for the fans turning on full speed.

Is your battery charged up? If it is and you have replaced all the starting components, check your grounds.

Will- Yeah my battery is fully charged. And I checked the grounds, all are fine no corrosion.

Cali- Just the fans turn on. No clicking from the starter only the relay.

So you try to start the car and all that happens is clicking from the relay and the fan goes on? So when you take the key out of the ignition does the fan off or does it still stay on?
Can you try this for me? Take a 10 gauge wire, run ground it onto one of your starter bolts holding the starter in and the other end of the wire ground it to your chasis up front and try to start her up.

Cali- Yes when I turn the key once it clicks, then when I roll it to off and then crank again it will just click once.

Will- I actually replaced all my ground wires with some 10AWG wire to day and I have three grounds going to the engine/tranny. And it stilll will not start. But I fixed the fan problem somehow. The wont turn on now when I turn the key on but I still can't start it.

Do you have a ground on your starter and a power to fire your starter? Did you check your fuses?

Since you replaced all your grounds it wouldn't hurt to add that ground I asked you to do.

Will- That was one of the grounds I replaced. And I'm getting a consistant 12V power to the positive cable aa well as the other cable for the ignition.

Cali- Nope it won't start at all.

Yep just one click. But now I can hear my fuel pump priming. I was concern about the motor being seized, possibly from a leaky injector so I took all the plugs out and tried to start it but nothing just that one click.

Well you say you're getting power to your starter, but your starter relay is clicking? Have some one try to start the car and listen for the starter relay to click in your fuse box.

there are 2 wires that go to your starter. a LARGE one that takes the charge and distributes it. and the Trigger wire, A smaller wire that goes to the side of the starter rather than the back. I willing to be that the trigger engagement wire is corroded or fell off. Was my problem before with the same symptoms.

Itchy that was the problem. There was just a hint of corrosion on the trigger wire which caused it not to start. 72 dollars later and I have my Celica back. Thanks Will, CALI, and Itchy for all your help.
