I was wanting to put a turbo kit in my 7afe engine with an automatic trans. Will the trans be able to handle the turbo? Is a supercharger a better way to go? I know I can only push so much on this engine and I was aiming for 175 HP when im done. Any suggestions? I have about 1500 for engine mods.

turbo and Supercharger will run u way more than 1500.
and the supercharger no one makes one. I would recomend getting another 2000 bucks and goin for a 4age or 4agze swap and those will get u to the Hp u are lookin for. i have an auto tranny and a turbo setup
turbos love auto tranny's. dont have to let off the gas and the turbo never slows down till you want to slow down. superchargers are a waste of time on a i4 car in my opinion. they arent as efficient and not as easy to up the boost as with a turbo. but they are less stressfull on the engine. i say turbo, from first hand experience. at 6psi i ripped apart a 1998 celica GT 5spd with IHE and i gave him a couple car length head start. now im trying out 8psi and with me and two of my friends in my car its still faster than my friend's 91 3000gt SL -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

twin charging? too much money for one wallet too much headache for one head why would you want to twin charge any car that is not a 100% drag car? realistically, there isnt even enough room in the celica engine bay to install a turbo that would have soo much lag that a supercharge would be needed to get it going. hell, neither a 7afe nor a 5sfe would make good use of anything bigger than a t3/t04 hybrid and that would still spool pretty quick. lag is not as big of a problem as people think it is. my turbo setup currently is running the stock ST exhaust and my turbo hits full boost at a little under 3k rpm in first and since i have an auto, after that it never drops till i decide to slow down or stop accelerating. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Amen! A lot of people don't really understand lag. Many think it's gonna be a huge factor in aftermarket applications, however, it's sooo insignificant...it's not even noticeable on typical cars boosting modest levels and pushing modest power... Boost lag will matter, for those that run a 9.25 second 1/4 mile and is yearning for that 8 second mark.... in that case, a bit of lag is noticeable... but how many people here can run nines... |
