Kelowna, BC is pretty good. For starters, it's BC. The best and most beautiful province in Canada

- Consistently pretty good weather but the Okanagan is known to have the weather change in half an hour.
- Fairly hot summers (100 ish for you Americans) and reasonable winters. Can get quite cold, but we don't usually see a lot of snow. This year has been a bit of an exception.
- Tons of recreational activities.
- If you like to golf, there's a TON of courses in and around the city.
- There's 3 ski mountains within an hour drive, Big White was voted as having the best snow in North America) There's probably 6 within 2 hours.
- Beaches galore and the babes to go with them.
- Small(er) town feeling, but is the largest city between Vancouver and Calgary.
- Tons of wineries, if that's your thing. Kelowna is fairly touristy.
- Lots of lakes if you like to fish, or go boating/camping.
- Did I mention it's in BC?
- Mountains. You never realize how awesome they are until you go somewhere between calgary and the atlantic and see nothing but flat (or lumpy hills)
- You can drive down the road and never see another 6gc for weeks!
- Big trades work place if that's what you do. Construction is big here, but in the current market, it's slowing down after like 10 years of going crazy.
- Is only a brief 1,643 mile drive from your current location.
- Lots of local sports and activities. We also have a WHL hockey team.
- 3 1/2 hours from Vancouver, which is nice too, but too big for my liking (and is rapidly turning into the gang capital of Canada).

- Living in the nice places costs more. Housing can be expensive, gas here tends to be some of the highest in Canada (93.9 right now, avg in Canada is 88.3).
- I think it's the 2nd largest retirement community in BC (possibly Canada).
- Growing like a weed. (maybe not all bad. we did get a new bridge last year which greatly improved traffic)

cost of living is lower here on the east coast (The Maritimes), although availability of luxury items can be a factor. there is definitely a slowdown in all manufacturing, technology and retail sectors, but that is a global problem now. we do benefit from universal healthcare but we are taxed to death and salaries are a little lower than in the centre and western provinces. people here are about as friendly as you can imagine. some areas benefit from a dual cultural background (french-english) without all the hangups found elsewhere. the beaches are beautiful and clean but the water is cold (except for the Northumberland Strait). you can live close to nature or hole-up in Halifax or St John if "city" life is your thing. you can get a flight from here to anywhere either out of Halifax or Moncton. and the first time you go to a Maritime Kitchen Party you will be here to stay, "Ça c'est certain."

i have lived in Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. i have visited for work and play every province except for British Colombia and i absolutely love the diversity, the welcome and the general easy-going attitude of people i have met. ièm not saying that downtown Toronto or Montreal aren't hectic and VERY VERY VERY urban, i just enjoy meeting people and getting to know what they like about where they live (occupational hazard i guess). i have rarely heard "This place sucks and I need to get out ASAP!!". Quebec City is a cultural and historic jewel, Calgary is crazy at night, Montreal is bi-polar Euro-colonial mishmash, the Prairies are mesmerizing and my home is the East Coast, Nova Scotia, Canada's Playground.

Hope others aren't as shy as i am and give you a better perspective of what their region is like good and bad.

Personaly, Im an ontario boy. Born and raised, only province ive lived in so far. I really like Toronto, but I think you need to have experience with a BIG city to handel it/appricate it.

Postives: Extreamly diverse. Toronto is one of the most diverse populations in the world. We have people from every single section of the world living in the city, so if you ever want to experience somethin new, theres always a place to do it.

Big city: With Toronto, you can never be bored. Ive lived in Toronto for 22 years, and there are still places/areas of the city ive never been to.

Location: Its about an hour and 20 min or less to NY state, you have lake ontario to the south, the georgain bay about an hour away, the biggest fresh water beach an hour away, some good ski hills for the winter, or mountain bike trails for the summer. Easy to get out of town and head out into the country side.

Housing: Housing in town is expensive if you stay in "Toronto", but if your in the GTA (greater toronto area), so places like Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, North York, Markham, Scarbrough, etc, the housing costs are pretty decent compaired to other places in Canada.

Negatives: Traffic: It depends on how heavy of traffic you are used to dealing with, but the traffic can be bad. I drive about 74km (45 miles) twice a day every day to get to work, and its not too bad of a drive. But once again, i learned how to drive in Toronto, so im used to the traffic.

Housing: You might not like living in some of the area around toronto, but living in the core is hecktic and expensive.

and its a Big City: every ones always in a rush, its always busy, etc.

So if you dont mind living in a big city, its actaully a nice place to live.

east coast!. maritimes is were it is at, you get 4 seasons, cold winters and hot summers....allows you to enjoy any hobby, some of the most friendly people you will ever meet anywhere... lotsa roads to drive with some cool back roads......only down side is pot holes here and there......i love it here i live out in the country 45 minutes away from fredericton which is the cap of new brunswick. its deffinetly a cool spot to visit!

did i mention you can get GT 4's over here.....thats all the reason you need im sure lol

Dont have to...our city probably 97% english speaking. The other 3% would be a mix of every other language from around the world. The chances of running into some one who only speaks french in toronto is slim.

Calgary Alberta is pretty much the same scene. Our crew is small, and highly unorganized, but when we do eventually come together, we're a family. We help each other out as much as we can.

Sinyk is a frequenter of our group; so much so that we consider him a full time member; its always great to have him over from BC.

Anyways; getting to this location thing. Calgary is a great "metropolis" to visit; with tons to do, and see; you'll never be bored here either. Its nowhere near as big as T.O. but its size is still overwhelming.
Low crime-rate.
Banff national park is only 45mins/1 hour away - you always see celebrities there...
Flames games at the Saddledome; Elisha Cuthbert is almost ALWAYS there... :drool:
No PST, only GST. You can get a job on the rigs with no experience earning almost 6 figures in your first 5 years... (well maybe not now with the economic crisis at hand)

Plus if you don't like the weather; just wait 5 minutes... lol.

MONCTON NEW-BRUNSWICK ! Not too big, not too small..and if you want to get away from the city..well, 10 minutes of driving and you're in the backwoods, lol ! Beach is is 20 minutes away (and nice beaches at that), tons of snow for skidooing and extremely low crime rate, cheap housings and cost of living.. However depending on your job, the pay rates are below average..which sucks.

I personally can't stand big cities, I like to be able to go for a drive without getting caught in circulation, well that's me.

For some reason, this city is totally going through the recession like nothing is going on...wierd.

I know it sounds kinda hypicritical coming from a guy from Toronto, but Calgary has had soo many shooting deaths due to gang voilence in the last year its not even funny. My buddy moved from Windsor out to Calgary, was walking down the street and a cop stopped him and asked if he wanted to become a cop because he was a big guy..lol. I'm actually thinking about moving out that way just to join up with the Calgary police services. It was really depressing at the beginning of 2009; but it seemed like the gangs were trying to kill one person a day for the first few weeks here.
Mind you they only attack each other; although there was one innocent by-standard who was trying to prevent a person from being shot, that actually got shot himself.
Like seriously; wtf is this world coming to??

That first pic is from Blue mountain, suppost to be the best place to ski in ontario..i disagree..its owned by the same company as whistler and mt tremblant, so its really overly done, busy and expensive as hell. But yea, i cant wait for revelstoke. First time out west. Been skiing a few times in Quebec (mt st anne, le massif, le massif sued, tremblant, etc.) and i know Ray or someone is gonna correct me on my french spelling, but im from Ont, so bite me..lol.

Ski hills are a funny topic -- my sister spent a year in Ottawa working for the government and when she mentioned mountains, the locals tried pointing out their ski hills and mountains. She couldn't see them.

They were so flat that she see a mountain when looking at the landscape.

On the gang shooting thing: it seems to be centred around one dispute, with associates or rivals of one particular group being on either end of the guns. They've gotten stupid about it, which often leads to other more professional criminals quietly helping the police -- the pros don't like the attention open warfare generates, it's bad for business. At a minimum, the cops know who they have to concentrate on.

about average... 230cm 'til now, but more snow staying on the ground. we usually get rain right after the snow, but it's been colder this year. according to environment canada there is an average of 9cm of snow on the ground for feb but this year there is an average of 24cm. noticeably more when you have to find somewhere to put it when you shovel the driveway.
