So I didn't know if this would be exterior styling or interior wiring, so i put it here.
I don't quite understand the relay part of the whole set up. From what i understand after reading the 12 page how to you can wire them with out the relay. If you can wire them without the relay why is there such a big fuss over getting the relays? And why do i need one if i can wire it without it? I just got my set of power folding mirrors with the switches and plugs and will probablyy start working on getting them set up this weekend hopefully just looking for a bit more understanding. Thanks guys -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

cause with the relay dude, its simple and not a hassle.
if you can wire without, then you have to use a separate, two way switch rather than the switch it comes with. the relay acts as a polarity reverser, meaning by a single stroke of the same switch it can go from - 12 to +12 on the same wire. And is safer and will prolong the life of the motors, as it also acts as a voltage regulator. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I am going to differ from you njccmd2002, mine are wired WITHOUT the relay and it was SOOO EASY, I have the stock swithc, stock location , stock everything, expect that I didn't use the relay.
I installed mines in ~ 10 minutes after the door panels were off. -------------------- ![]() |

there is a switch that was upgraded that also works as a relay, it is one of the newer switches that dont come with the pink wire.
Cool, but there you go. I still prefer the relay tough just MO -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

nope, my switch has the pink wire. But neither of my connectors or mirrors do. ??
![]() Also. If i switch housings and use my USDM ones will they close closer to the car? I want these to fold up flush with the car -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

I had the pink wire on my relay, I'll have to check if my switch also has it, I know the was one wire that had to be hooked up to power, and I splice in a (+) wire and everything works as it should.
I'll try to get pictures later when I take my door panels off to install my crossovers. -------------------- ![]() |

The how guide on this has like 9 different ways to do this and i keep getting confused lol -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

culp when you wired them without the relay what did you use to get power?..like these are supposed to fold when you turn the ignition off if i am not mistaken...did you run it to your ignition switch or some other power source....im still a little confused as to where to wire them up and how they would(know) for a lack of a better word to fold when you turn your car off

as far as I know these do not fold wihen you shut the car off. you have to do it yourself, or wire them to do that. I want mines to do that, but won't work on them until is gets friendly outside, working with small wires on cold weather is not much fun.

Ya i am not sure if i want to wire it to my alarm, or my igntion...
Anyone know if using my USDM housings will get the mirrors to fold flatter to the car? or will the JDM ones fold flatter? -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2

if you use your usdm housings, the driverside housing will be sticking out while the passengerside will be more flush with the car. it'll look terrible. just keep the jdm housings.

something to remember, using the relay protects against burning out the motor as well, it cuts power once its reached full position thus not trying to turn it any more. without the oem relay or something similar you may end up burning out the motor.

x3. you can prove this by closing the mirrors and simultaneously cutting the power off the relay only. the mirrors will continue to close until they reach the end with or without power going to the relay.

Thanks guys!!
![]() So after watching all the videos and re-reading the how guide this is my plan... Test and label all the wires to the new mirrors and check then against the how to guide. Remove the guts from the power folding mirrors and paint the housings to match my car. Remove old mirrors and switch. Re-pin my current switch wires to work with the JDM switch Install new switch and mount mirrors. Run wires. Enjoy. Does that sound about right? -------------------- 1 JL 1,000/1v2
