Hey guys,

Names Marvin, I've followed this forum for quite a while now made a couple friends in the chat room, but never really got into really posting on the boards (besides the FS section). But anyway, ummm, I'd like to thank this site for getting my Toyota craze back. Lol, if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have my lovely car right now, and I'd probably still be up in Honda forums, not saying I don't go to them now but this is my main site now smile.gif .

So about the car/ How I came about to owning it.

Well, this really all happened by mistake, a lovely one may I add. I was browsing thru Craigslist and Google like always. I was looking up parts for my moms Accord and on the other looking up car sites. Well while searching up parts, I came across a Supra site. And like many others, Supra was my first love in cars. I click on it, and I see this mutated Supra, and I'm just thinking "wth was this person thinking with this conversion?", lol little did I know it was the front end of a 6gc. Didn't like it at first but then I really started digging the all around look of it. About 2 day's of searching I found out it was a 6 generation Celica, so I tape that into Google and first site on top is 6gc.net. I stayed up like a good week straight all night long reading and researching all the stuff you guys do. I was seriously amazed at all the work put into these cars. It "inspired" me to go out and buy a car. I've never owned a car before, and all I do is read, talk, think ,sleep cars but never actually had one to call my own. So I said fcuk this, I'm getting a 6g.

And here's where the finding of my car begins.

So back to Craigslist.
I start searching for a Celica, and I have to say these car's are rare around here or noone want's to sell them because I would never see any for sale. Except that one day, I saw a posting of a 95 Celica 5 speed ST coupe with 180,000 miles for $800. I was souped and ready to go out and buy, so I call the guy up and tell him I'm going on Tuesday and I called on a Sunday. And he said yea sure come, I have noone else who has called and if they do I'll give you a call, so I said sure I'll be there Tuesday and more them likely I'm gonna end up buying. So Monday came along and I called him again to make sure he had it and he said yea, so Monday passed, and it was Tuesday. I woke up early as I could, got ready and called him up. "Hey man, I'm head out now", and he replied "dude, sorry but I sold the car yesterday, I didn't think you were still interested so I didn't call you back", I hung up. Pissed as hell, went back on Craigslist started searching, knocked out, woke up, and bam! A new 6g posted up for sale.

As you can see it was in a front end collision. Nothing too mayor, but alot of work ahead of me. It was a 25th Anni. Edition, with 160k on it, runs and drives, but needed work. So I drove out, 1hr and 20mins? I think that's how far it was. I show up I see it parked outside, I fell in love. The bright red paint job had me going insane I knew that was my car then and there. He told me the whole 9 yards on how it happened, and all of the info he could on the car. The body and interior was in great shape. But the damage to the front end left it needing this-

Parts needing to be replaced
-Bumper
-Hood
-Passenger Side Fender
-Radiator
-Ac Condenser
-Both fans
-Rad support
-Airbag's
-Windshield

He was asking $850 obo without the rims of course. I said I would give him, $450 but he said it wasn't going that low, and that he rather junk it or something since noone wants to buy and I offered so little(to me that was alot due to the damage). And I said ok, thanks anyway...my heart was pounding a billion times faster lol it scared me when he said that, I had gotten attached to car already. But I kept composure and he came around tongue.gif. He even did me the favor of dropping it off the next day.

Here are the pic's I took once I had it at my parking lot. (Sorry I forgot to take before the bag's were put on)

Nice progress!

The switches probably won't work, but the lever with the foglight switch can be picked up from 1sttoyotaparts for around $70.

Had a feeling they wouldn't work but I'll hold on to that, till I get more important stuff taken care of. Looks like I got time today being that, I showed up to my meeting and they gave me the wrong address and no one picks up their phones soooo, I'm see what I get done today.

And thanks alot man, I'm trying my best to restore her with the little income I make.

Btw, would you say it would be a hard job to weld that whole front piece on? I really just need the rad support bar on the very bottom but I ended up getting the whole piece since the guy got lazy and didn't wanna cut anymore. Should I just have the welders cut the whole front and weld this one into place?

Lol, I was gonna do that. But I couldn't find anyone selling them, till like 3days ago and I got an offer and he lives no more then 30mins away from me frown.gif missed out on a good deal. I still have the chance to buy them but, with all the cash I've put on it right now, I just wanna have it running.

I'll wait on the GT4 front once I save up some cash, but that might be till after a swap, rather have power over looks.

I wouldn't have the shop weld that whole front on. There are so many things that can go wrong if they don't do it perfectly. The front end might end up being too long, too short, crooked, etc. Have a shop drill the spot welds on the radiator support and swap it over.

And I wouldn't necessarily jump right in to the GT-Four front end. Get it fixed and running and find what direction you want to take the car in- be it a GT-Faux, SS-III, a combination of both, or something completely different.

But I suppose what you need to decide is if you're going to search for a red fender and hood, or try and paint match new pieces, or paint the entire car, not to mention getting the 25th anniversary fender badges, which I heard were something like $200 from the dealer. frown.gif

Thanks for the input guys, highly appreciated.

Well I just came back from the body shop and the guy said his gonna take off all the top parts, and just weld on the bottom part after, he heats and pulls on the one that's there already (the bent one). He's also gonna straighten out the fender. His place is very respectful, he showed us some of his work and I knew I chose the right place.

On top of that, he's cool with my dad so he said he would repair all the damage, weld, and paint the fenders and bumper for $350. Good deal or not? I think it is considering everyone else is asking $550 for just the welding and those places don't compare to this shop. And none offer to fix it later on if the problem is caused by an error by them, like this shop does so I'm pretty set to where my money's going.

Getting picked up next Tuesday.

As for the GT4 front, I think I'm pass on that 1. no cash 2. I just can't spend money on that right now. 3. I rather save cash for my 1mz biggrin.gif

I'm dieing for a GT4 front end but I crave the power, and before anything I have to at least restore it back to stock to even be making plans so pic's will be added as I go on with this built thumbsup.gif

Lol, I had the 96 bumper that came with my car but it was all cracked and bent. I repaired it and planned on throwing the fog's on that but damn kid's on my block jumped on my car landed on my bumper and broke it way too much to repair so for now I wait till I get a facelift, if not I'm try to fit them on the bumper I got now. Might look weird but I'm test it out for the hell of it.

He's done a couple of my friends car and his work is always top class. If you feel he didn't perform what you wanted he has no issue on taking it back to the shop and doing the way you want it. Reason why I chose him, hopefully everything comes out like expected.

What should I do in the meantime? I wanna clean and repair everything ahead of time, belts, value cover gasket, change the liquids, what else?

You can make it work, but the thing with 94-95 celicas (usdm) is that they never came with foglights, so unlike the 96-99 there is no wiring already in place. You'll need to run your own wiring, which I don't know how it would be done. Its probably more work than it's worth.

On my old 95 I wired my JDM lamps to the wiring from the aftermarket PIAA lamps that were installed. They had their own switch inside the car.

Let's not stray off topic. Shoot me a PM if you've got more questions. Let's not clutter someone else's thread.

hahaha, good eye. I didn't catch that myself lol I was too caught up in the moment.

Happy its gone butttt......

now I gotta find a way to get enough money to pay off the welding and crap. kindasad.gif I wanna find a way to make a little bit more money so he can patch up the middle holes the ST spoiler makes. As well as cut and put in a new quarter panel. Small amount of rust, but it's annoying the crap out of me.

GT spoiler? You mean '94-'95 spoiler? Lol the GT and ST came with the same spoiler. The difference was simply the year.

Great progress though! I'm glad to see that the car is going to the shop for reconstruction! Are you going to do any of the work yourself, like putting the headlights or new bumper on or are you going to let the shop do it all?

Still thinking about it, I want them to do it but I barely have any money left. Right now I'm just trying to estimate how much money I need to get the car running. So depending on the outcome, I'll take it from there. But more then likely they'll do it, I want everything to line up and I'm also gonna have the holes the spoiler needs in the middle covered/patched or w.e and painted.

And lol yea very much still noobish with these 6g's, I'm trying my best biggrin.gif

Hey, we all have to start somewhere smile.gif You aren't near as much of a noob as I was.

If I were you, in an effort to save money, I would have them do any cutting/welding, and I would do the rest. You can install the crash bar, headlights, and bumper yourself with basic tools. Plus, that gets you the added benefit of working on your car and getting to know it better. You ever need to do anything later, like if you want to install the JDM projectors, you'll have the knowledge and experience necessary. ANd the bragging rights of saying you are bringing that car back, instead of paying somebody else to do it for you!

Lol, believe me, if there's anything I know I could do, I do it. And if I don't know how to do it, I'll try it anyway lol. But I want them to put it on so I know the welding was done right, and to make sure everything lines up as it should. The hood didn't line up to begin with so they have to heat it and pull it abit, aside from the welding. So I think it's a must for this situation. I wanna do it all myself but, I rather have everything like it came out of factory. smile.gif

Of course! That's a given. Letting a body shop do it is easier wink.gif It's what they do every day, so the job will be flawless, I'm sure. And 6gc's deserve nothing but the best.

And why does everyone live in New Jersey except for me mad.gif

Btw, back on topic concering the built.

The Celi, is another the knife. They gave me a call yesterday and they just want me to go drop off some other parts that I had forgotten about, so tomorrow I'll take pics of it in the shop and to see how far they've gotten. smile.gif

I have to say this one great thing your doing!! And it really reminds me of what I just finished doing. I bought the same car. Mine is #1312. and was beaten up bad too. And it's great to see another person thts motivated to get a beautiful celica. If you want some ideas or want to see how certain things look on the car check out my build thread. But you have really done a great job so far. And good luck with the rest!!!!!

Damn I had completely neglected my own thread. Sorry for not keeping you guys up-to-date but I figured (since I misplaced my camera) no pics why bother posting. But meh, might as well let you guys know whats going on, and has happened during this time.

Well I picked up my car from the body shop and I am highly satisfied. Looks as if it was never in an accident, everything looks straight BUT there's a gap between the hood and bumper. Luckily this will be repaired at no extra cost due to them not having all the parts to put the bumper back on. So as of now I'm just waiting on my crash bar bracket so I can have my bumper put on. Once I have that I'll be taking it back to the shop they do their last modifications and I bring it home to finally start putting on all engine department stuff thats been waiting for almost a month now.

Got payed a decent amount this week, so I'm going to go shopping for more mantainace parts. What would you guys recommend, I had this in mind.

-Oil (160k miles which should I use)
-Oil filter
-T-belt
-Thermostat
-Radiator (already bought)
-VC gasket
-Spark plugs
-Battery
-PS airbag and computer

The PS airbag will be held off for just a bit longer, I apologize to those who have sent me offers, but I have to take care of the bigger issues first. Once I have all of the main stuff taken care of I will definably give you guys a shot. If I wasn't paying for school this wouldn't be an issue but sorry for the stall./

BACK ON TOPIC \ Thats all I have in mind, please advise what else I should do since as of right now we have a spare car that I can drive so I can stall this for maybe a good 3 more weeks. Any more liquids I should change? Filters that need to be replaced? It's a 7a just for those that don't feel like going to the first post wink.gif

Please give any input you could or have, I've here to listen and learn and everything you guys say to me is written down and really taken in.

Thanks ahead of time guys.

Damn that must be fun to have the cash to buy a wreck and go parts shopping biggrin.gif Sounds like a pretty cool restoration job going on.

May I ask why the conversion from facelift to prefacelift?
(Personally I like the prefacelift spoiler and the facelift bumper)

And may I point out you bought facelift fog lights, but I'm guessing it's because the nut they screw into comes from the chassis and not the bumper and that you'll just make it fit. Will look interesting, I wanna see what that turns out like.

+ Show pics of the radiator, is that an all aluminum one? Packaging doesn't look OEM

EDIT: When you're finished the cosmetics, a 4A-GZE dropped in would be badass ... Celica Supercharged Limited #1/1 tongue.gif

Lol, well the prefacelift came to mind cus 1. it was before I knew anything about 6g's , 2. I got it for a pretty good price with a hood, and 3. Idk if it's just me but I have the hardest time finding a 6g at the JY. Plus it's grown on me I actually like it now, just want me some front TRD extensions but that'll wait.

As for the fog's, at first I had it in mind that I could just repair the damage bumper that came with the car, I did it and it didn't come out all that bad, I just needed some paint. Sadly it lasted maybe 3-4hrs before some kids came and jumped on by car and destroyed the bumper way past the fixing point, and on top of that they also took a pair of headlights with the bumper. Wanted to cancel the order, but they ere already on there way via mail.

Lol, you should know that I've annoyed all my buddies pasted the point that they just don't wanna hear me speak anymore due to the 4agze. Lol I just wondered why this swap isn't done as much as the 3s? I know the 3s is instant power but for someone shooting for no more then maybe 250-300whp wouldn't a 4agze be a good alternative? I'm more into circuit racing so I won't need 500whp in my mind if I'm not drag racing. Plus anything beats having a stock 7a.

If anyone wants to trade fog's let me know, your 94-95 for my 96-99.

The 4A-GZE isn't done as much mainly because it is harder to find than a 3S, generally about the same price (for the AE101 version with DLI) as a 3S, and expensive aftermarket support. It is nearly impossible to find an SC12 or SC14 pulley to upgrade the supercharger, and I heard wiring is a PITA.

And 94-95 front end is awesome, but the 94-95 fogs are much, much more valuable than the 96-99 fogs. Fortunately for you, you have the foglight wiring already, so the pre-facelift fogs might end up being plug and play.

4A-GZE is the swap for the 7A as it all bolts up. 3S-GTE is the swap for the 5S.

(However you can get 5S engine mounts to make a 3S work in an ST)

With both swaps, if you want a nice fresh engine (and a late spec with highest available output) your best bet is to find a JDM importer.

Not sure about the US but in New Zealand there are engines with less than 100,000kms (60,000 miles) being imported all the time.

AE101 Toyota Levin (Or Trueno) GT-Z is the donor car you're looking for. Otherwise it's the prehistoric AW11 MR2 Supercharged.

Levins and Truenos were never brought to the US, so a GZE isn't as easy to find. Even the AW11 GZE is hard to come by.

And even though it "all bolts up" to the 7A, it isn't as easy as a 20V or any other A series motor. I remember asking my tuner (who specializes in the 4AG/AE86 platforms) about swapping a 4AGZE into my first Celica, because he was swapping one into an AE86 at the time. He told me to steer clear of the GZE's, because they're a nightmare to get running properly when you swap. He said your basically better off to buy one, throw a 4AG intake manifold on it and turbo it with a standalone.

im pondering what to do to my st in the later future, partialy cause including it i have 3 rides but 2 are down for restoration

for now its just going to be suspension, stereo intake and a full exaust.

if i keep it long term it will either be 7afte 7age 7agte or 1mzfe, im liking the 1mz option better

Well obtaining the engine isn't all that hard for me I got importers about 15mins away from me so I could always pick up from lets say here
http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/jdm_engines/Toyota

I figured it would be all bolt on, since everyone who's done it saids that the mounts are exactly the same, and the most difficult part is the hardness. On another note a 3s seems very practical and is the best bang for your money and I would love to have instant power but all I want to push is maybe 200-250 to the wheels. I don't know if I've said this before but I'm more into circuit racing, not really into straights so I wouldn't be needing all that power.

But anyway, on the long run is a 4agze worth it if the person is willing to put up with all the work?

Its a very durable little engine, in standard form has alot of torque (the kind of torque that will pull you out of tight corners where the turbo guys will still be waiting for their turbos to kick in)

As I mentioned, the AE101 GT-Z is the donor car you're looking for. AE92 and AW11 are getting really old.

I think you'll be extremely happy with the drivability (Don't let the meager 170BHP fool you, theres more torque than a 3s-ge at a fraction of the revs) aswell as the rarity of a supercharged Celica.

A 3S-GTE has alot more power sure and as soon as it stops wheel spinning it will fly right past you, But so what, Love to see any FWD 3S-GTE try and put that power into a corner or get a decent launch... It's either wheel spin or turbo lag (and wheel spin).

3S-GTE was built for 4WDs, 4A-GZE was built for a mid-rear but was adapted very well to FWD.

As for getting it running, I don't see why there should be a problem, If it was working in the Levin / Trueno it came out of, It can work just as good in the Celica.

If you carry out with this make sure you upgrade your brakes and suspension, but that's obvious isn't it?

Thats exactly what I was thinking, the 4agze seems like a very wise candidate for a curvy circuit. The power is always there no need to wait for it to kick in. And like you said its very rare to see the swap so it would be nice to be different. I'm getting more and more into these engines, and I might end up doing this swap since it seems easier for us 7a guys.

But first and foremost I have to get my current engine running lol, can't be making plans without having what I have now stuck in one spot.

Getting the last few parts I need thru mail, and car will be getting back to the bodyshop next week to get its last tweaks. Pretty happy about that being that now I can throw on the rest of the stuff and have it fully running for the first time since I got it.

Update- Rad in, and other items I don't remember right now. Tuff time at work but anyway here are so pics. Oh and the car went back to the body shop this week to have some body lines that weren't flowing fixed. Finally done and now the engine bay work starts.

Extensions were bought and sprayed with a random red just to see how they would look. Gonna respray once I find the 3l2 red can. Also threw on the blocks I bought.

Yessir, TRD extensions. Bought them off a member here, they need a little bit of filler but besides that their in great condition. I'm about to start changing all my liquids and see if I get around to changing my timing belt today.

Might start sanding down the fenders and throwing some bondo onto to it to fill in the small indents that it has.

Thanks alot guys, and I' m so near the finish mark with the engine bay (for now). All I need is my new battery and I'm set.

Car seems a bit to high now with the tC rims, a good 3in drop would look great on my car but meh I'll hold off on that. Andd yea the tC rimmed 6g's are becoming a more common thing but I have yet to see one in person so as of now around here I;m the only one smile.gif
