The Celica, in particular the Castrol rally car, was my dream car when I was young. The Prius is being passed on to my wife, and I finally purchased a "new" GT. While it won't be a perfect replication, it'll make me happy, and that's all that matters, right? The goal of my goal is to make sure the car DOESN'T become a ricer and stays classy as close to the GT-Four original as I can with my abilities (and my wallet
![]() The car, including the hood, will all be repainted white as the car is heavily oxidized. Many parts including the air intake hose, radiator, exhaust, ect were replaced. Lots of dry rot, but the car is rust free (except where she was hit a long time ago behind the tail light, which we'll fix). It's been shipped from Texas, so lots of sun damage, no rust. Tomorrow begins the last bit of the repair work (bondo door dings and fix rust) before we get it painted. All that, and then the removal of the ugly country blue pinstripes convinced me to dive head first into this project. The mods so far: Castrol decals custom made (a few Sega ones as well, in homage of Sega Rally ![]() VIS carbon fiber hood (installed) OEM white allow wheels (refinished in front of the car.. the ones on the car now are horrible steel ones) Cold air intake and cone filter (the original air intake hose was rotted, so why not upgrade for the health of the car) New headers New drilled rotors and brake pads New spark plugs New wires and clamps New performance radiator 25th anniversary seats DVD/GPS 4" screen player New speakers New side mirrors New paint job New exhaust New antenna Car when I got it for only $2800: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So far (the replacement spoiler came with the mounting holes for the spoiler blocks bondoed closed...yay. Now I'll have the refiberglass the crack in the old spoiler I wasn't planning on using). Most of the car's trim has been stripped.. which is why the doors and headlamps look funky ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll take more pics of the body work, and of the engine by Tuesday before it gets sent off to be painted. Of course, stripped, it's ugly right now.. but it'll be nice soon. The Castrol decals I had made will be installed 30 days after the paint job is done. Enjoy guys, updates soon. I got my decals for a couple hundred bucks, and I know me and my friend can install them on our own, which saves a LOT of money. Awesome man. Props on not going ricer, so then I'd advise you remove that hood. ![]() Thanks for the compliments guys. To be honest, while I want it to be pretty close to the original rally car, I wasn't ever really going for exact. For the price the GT-4 look isn't really worth it to me, especially considering that 1. I like the hood I have on better 2. The GT-4 bumper requires mods that either I can't do (cutting the bar) or I'd be crazy to do (removing it). 3. Since I like the hood I have better (the design of the vent is better I think...) I can't really have a GT-4 bumper as the end of the hood isn't raised up an inch like the GT-4 one is. It would look funky, and having it smooth and level is very very important to me. Also, please remember that the hood will be painted white like the rest of the car. It won't look a ricer (like it does now thanks to the carbon fiber...eww) There is good news in this though. I just found a white, facelift (96+) bumper which looks a lot better than the smiley 95 stock bumper I have, and a little bit closer to the GT-4 look, but won't have me compromising my safety. The bumper will be here in 3-5 days, pushing my paint job back to next week. Still, the car will be completed minus the decals by the end of next week ![]() Again, the car looks like a heap of crud right now as without most of the trim and without it's spoiler and lights, it looks quite boring. But I can guarantee you it's going to be amazing here in just a few weeks. It's a little embarrassing showing it in this stage, but I hope you all can look past it for now... especially my lovely (not) aftermarket steel "Walmart" rims ![]() ![]() The decals will be put on approximately 30 days after the car is painted, so if I can have everyone stay awake for that long, you'll all be in for some eye candy. I'm really proud of the decals that were made, and I hope to do the car justice. Either way, the completely redone car should be back from the shop in just a week and a half to two weeks, so they'll be plenty of pictures to share. ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

A full wrap will be a nightmare to put on...decals will be much much easier.
Even going to the expense of getting them painted on would be better & cheaper than a full wrap. Even Toyota just use decals. If you get a bit damaged / vandelised then you`d be gutted...the whol lot would need doing again...with decals you can just replace the effected part. Got it back from the shop today!
![]() ![]() ![]() It turned out really well. Not everything is back on the car yet of course. Lots of the rubber seals and trim ect are still gone as are the rear lights. I'll take another video in the morning, but since it's night time and there's only one small light in the garage, you can't see how much this glistens. It's like a whole new car. The engine updates are coming along nicely, and I'll take some more pics and vids of that in a little bit. The carbon fiber hood turned out GREAT painted and really makes the car come together. The new 96' bumper looks great on my 95'. I just need to find some Tom's lips for either side and I'm good (I wasn't going to, but there's a spot where the previous owner put them here, so I might as well fill in the space). The new wheels have been powdercoated white and will be put on this weekends. But for now, it's all curing and will be drying for 30 days before the decals will be put in place. Plenty of other stuff I can do till then though, including putting this thing back together fully. I've had a full night, but here's what I have so far: ![]() This post has been edited by CastrolCelica: Oct 13, 2009 - 9:33 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Well I'm diving into this project head on. The wheels are powdercoated and ready to be installed tomorrow. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow of the car. It's now completely put back together and it look beautiful (spoiler, blocks, trim, lights, ect). I have yet to put the emblems on it, but it's pretty much ready to show off minus the decals. This weekend the drilled rotors and new brake pads will be installed. Last night we put new spark plugs in after flooding the car the day before due to a bad battery. Everything is up and running now and shes purring like a kitten. New headers will be shown off soon as well.
Anywho, I think you guys will be amazed to see the transformation just on the body alone tomorrow. Kinda makes me hesitant to put the vinyl on, as it just plain white is absolutely gorgeous. -------------------- ![]() |

Had to get a new axle because it was leaking grease like nothing else. $400 later the axle is replaced and the wheels are installed. It's been an expensive trip, but I'm almost there. I need to install the headers that just came in today, but other than that and the decals, I'm pretty much done. These are shots of before and after the emblems being put on. The back one couldn't be put on atm because it was damaged and I need to get a new one.

Thanks for the compliments everyone
![]() ![]() As far as the wheels, they do look very similar don't they.. but no, they were OEM wheels only sold in Japan and Europe for 6th generation Celicas. That's all I really know. I've looked at some 7th gen wheels and those spokes seem a bit more skinny and bowed than these. These are thicker. Wish I knew more than that. But at the very least, they're beautiful and look a lot better than this, which is how they came to me. Loooots of work went into these haha: ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Hey... If you get bored with this car and don't feel like putting the decals on... That thing is sexy enough as it sits! It's coming right along! Sadly I was thinking the same thing. It's beautiful in it's own right and doesn't need bright cheerful stickers on it to make it stand out. Then again, just as I thought it was beautiful after coming back from the paint shop...without it's trim, spoiler, ect on it, I'm sure the car will go from absolutely beautiful to pretty much near mind blowing when it's all said and done, just as it did once I put all that extra crud back on it before. I guess the good thing is that if the decals look ****ty, I can always pull them off and have a beautiful car waiting for me. PS: Ah yes, thank you for the compliment kind sir ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

I'm in Dayton, maybe we'll have to meet up sometime. Actually they're smoked from the start, it's how I bought them. So no tinting film or anything ![]() I really love them. The blinkers especially have a very deep reflectant look to them that made them simply gorgeous. Actually I'm in Dayton all the time. I have a lot of friends out there. I'll be there this weekend to get help with installing rotors and brakes. If you ever want to meet up with us we could have a fun time with two white celicas haha. Do you have a link to where you bought them (sidemarkers) from?
The rotors and brakes will be very easy for you if you have any mechanical experience whatsoever. I'll extend the offer back to you as well, if you ever need a hand, let me know. A friend and I that's also on here have worked on these cars for a while so we're very familiar with most of the stuff. BTW, I really need to update my profile as I've sold my white celica and bought a newer (98) silver one that is mostly stock. As I type this I'm in between putting clear coats on my tails, I redded the orange/amber part on them earlier today. If you aren't planning on going with JDM tails, you can have the supplies I used to do this. I still have plenty left over! |

Feel free to PM me pics of your Celica, can't wait to see it. I'm not doing the JDM route (I don't like the look honestly and I certainly won't spend that much money on them lol) but I actually quite like the amber and red look of the lights, so I think I'll keep them as is. But thanks for the offer! That's good to hear about the rotors and brakes. Hopefully we'll be able to crank that out fast. After that we fix the oil leak by getting a new oil pan gasket and then hopefully, the headers. I have never installed these before. I have a rough idea on what to do, so we'll see how it goes. Again, once those are in, I'll take a picture of the engine bay ![]() How many miles are on your Celica and how is the condition? Are you planning on keeping it stock or are you going to upgrade it eventually? Almost hate to ask, but why did you sell the white one? -------------------- ![]() |

Not a big job by any means, but I finally found a fix to a minor problem of mine. As super high quality as the VIS hood is, and despite how well it fits (as if it's OEM) the one thing that hadn't turned out like expected were the windshield wiper nozzles not fitting into the hood. The shape was correct, but the hole wasn't anywhere near large enough for the nubs to fit through.
As many of you guys know, finding replacement nozzles WITHOUT ricey led lights embedded in them is extremely hard. When you do find them, they're usually made for a specific model car, OEM or not. I found these after a lot of searching, and they fit the car perfectly, and look very similar to the ones that were on the Celica originally. The existing hose was much too long for this setup, and I ended up shorting it on one end and extending it with a hose extender on the other. It works very well, and is nice and taught enough that I don't need to glue it down or hold it up with clips. I'm extremely pleased with how it looks. Again, I'll take a picture of the engine area once everything is installed hopefully this Saturday, but here's a pic of the outside for now ![]() ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Good to see you got the windshield washer nozzles in! You're making some really quick progress with this car.
Here's a tip I got for the headers: Odds are your bolts holing your existing manifold on will be rusted all to crap. They'll be a pain to get out without breaking them or rounding the heads, no matter how much WD40 or PB Blaster you use. But one guy told me something, and I tried it, and it worked beautifully. Start your car, let your motor warm up for about 5 minutes. Shut it off and then try to remove the bolts again. They'll come out as smooth as the day they went in. I don't know if this is a case by case thing that just happened to work out well when I tried it or if it's universal and will always work, but it's worth a shot. Good news, while I couldn't do the headers today, I was able to go ahead and put the rotors and brake pads on. The drilled rotors look AMAZING against the new wheels. I'll take the pictures tomorrow ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Car looks great. What's wrong with your current 2-post? I was driving to Dayton today to my friends house to do the rotors and pads, and as I'm driving, I hear a giant "SNAP" and the "fixed" spoiler Maaco repaired, cracked in the same crack that was existing when I first turned it in. Sad that I did all my own bodywork BUT the spoiler, entrusting it in someone else and all they did was put a bead of fiberglass in the HUGE crack to fix it. I guess he thought the spoiler was just for show, but unfortunately for him (and me) the spoiler is there for a reason and wind did a number on his horrible job. Just goes to show you, if you go to Maaco, only get paint done. Do everything yourself. ![]() At least I found a good one. If the paint isn't good, I'll get it resprayed (something they can actually do!) and be back to were I was this morning before my spoiler cracked like a twig. beautiful... Thanks bud. I'll have more pics tomorrow of the rotors and more soon once my repairs are done to the spoiler. -------------------- ![]() |

wat kind of seats r u getting Absolutely jack now lol. The guy who was trading me the seats for my parts bailed on it without letting me know. I have some white and black seat covers I could use I guess. We'll have to see. I'd honestly like something a bit nicer that what I have currently. To be honest, I'd just be happy if the seats I had could be fixed. I have a couple ripped seams on the side showing insulation, but other than that they are quite nice. We'll see. Money is getting a bit tight atm, so I think I'll be waiting on getting anything more elaborate as for as seating goes. -------------------- ![]() |

about your hood i have the same hood and i just opened up the hood hole slightly with a dremel and the oem nozzles fit fine Kinda hard to dremel a hole that has paint on it. The last thing I want to do is start chipping on the paint and then worry about it spreading, ya know? Besides, these ones look almost identical to the OEM ones and make mounting to the underside significantly easier. -------------------- ![]() |

Just an update:
Spoiler will be here Tuesday. This week the spoiler blocks and spoiler will be resprayed/sprayed. The spoiler blocks had some paint issues that they're fixing for free. Next weekend, the decals go on everything except for the large "CASTROL" logo on the spoiler, since.. obviously..that part will still need to cure. Hopefully the weekend after that, the headers and new stereo/speakers will be installed with some much needed help from Aerl. Pictures will come with each step ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Third time's the charm? Just got the third one in today...
![]() At least I'm hoping..sigh. First one had a crack down the underside in the center. The second was the replacement that had the mounting notches that the spoiler blocks go into filled in with bondo. Then the first was "repaired" only to crack again. Now the third (and by far the dirtiest, but hey! no cracks!). Both the new spoiler and the old spoiler blocks will be taken into the shop tomorrow to be painted white. If you guys don't remember, the blocks weren't painted all the way in the back and were rough. They are fixing those for free, though he's not spraying the spoiler for free even though it was their repair job that failed me. ![]() Can't wait for Saturday. The car will look like a Castrol car then. I also have a new surprise. I got red, rally mudflaps for the car! And they're even that much more amazing as they were specifically made for the Celica, and will have the Celica (90's style) logo in white on the back of each one. It's the little touches that count, right? ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

Yea, I saw those.. but the spoilers were heavily damaged (paint wise). First off, I apologize.. it's not done. It would have been, but my friend who was helping me out left at 1pm because he got a call from his fiancee that his basement was flooding ...yay!
Anywho, his basement is now fine, and the pipe to his washer repaired... we'll get back on this tomorrow and complete it. For now, all I can say is pretty much everything you see here I did by myself. I know it doesn't look like much, but laying this stuff out is hard to do by yourself, and I wasn't able to lay the vinyl down myself as you kinda need two people for these things.. they're huge. (The ones that are laid down were done in with my friend) I got the spoiler and spoiler blocks back from the paint shop today. THEY LOOK AMAZING! It'll be on the car tomorrow, but for now... here's a teaser picture. On the big stickers (If its proper vinyl) use lots of water with a very tiny small amount of washing up liquid and carefully use a credit card to push the water out from under them...this will allow you to remove the stickers and re use them if you dont line them up correctly or allow you some adjustment...use a hair drier to dry them out afterwards...but dont let them get too hot.
putting the stickers on without water will mean a large headache. On the smaller stickers dont dother with water as you can line them up pretty easily without. -------------------- |

Guys , I have a major problem and need help.
I'm on my third spoiler and cant buy and respray another. To be honest I'm sick and tired of having problems to such a simple solution. The first spoiler was cracked, the second had the mounting holes and screw holes bondoed over, and NOW the third's screw holes to attach to the spoiler blocks are about twice as large as the original. It looks like they've been drilled out or something. Is there any way to still use this? Is there any way to, i don't know, do like a nut and washer system to have it tighten to the oversize hole? Would this be stable enough or would it move around and break eventually? I'm just at a loss, and I could use the help. Thanks in advance. Btw, here are some updated pictures ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by CastrolCelica: Nov 8, 2009 - 7:38 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I know it's strange, but one of the things I actually liked about the Celica when I was younger were the tail lights. To get JDM ones would take out one of the things I like about the car. Here is a list of what needs to be done: Spoiler "Castrol" logo Driver's side fender swooshes 2x Bonnet swooshes Bonnet "Castrol" logo Bonnet "Prepared by ...." logo Roof "Castrol" logo Driver's side door big box and #4 And that's it. As you can see it's almost done! It's not shown in the pictures, but more stuff has been done to the roof. Next time I show pictures though, I want to be 100% done with the car. Thanks for the support thus far, and keep your eyes peeled for more pictures soon. -------------------- ![]() |

Hey! What's with the Sega decal?? Sega Rally: "Game over Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" ![]() Whats with it? Haha. It's been my inspiration the whole time ![]() My favorite system of all time was the Sega Saturn because it houses all the games I grew up with. Sega Rally, Daytona USA, ect. The reason the Celica (namely the Castrol) one had such a large draw to me was because of Sega Rally. It was then that I also became interested in rally racing. To not put the Sega logos up there would be a crime ![]() Funny side note. I almost sacrificed one of the sega logos to put the S in front of my liscense plate, which I think would accurately sum up my opinion of the car. -------------------- ![]() |

The "Prepared by Toyota Team Europe" stickers on the doors shouldnt they say "Powered By Toyota Team Europe"??? Otherwise...looking good...you cant beat a Castrol Celica I've seen some that say prepared, some that say powered, some that just say Toyota Team Europe... and then some that simply don't have a graphic there. The designs seem to change per car, and pretty drastically. Even the swooshes are completely different. If you look at the logos used for Castrol even, there are different ones for different cars. Some have the red only Castrol logo over the tire in the front, while others have the red and green box version. I'm actually kinda curious to see how many types of Castrol Celicas were made. I've even seen ones with other "main" sponsors on them. Anywho, if you look closely, I've changed a lot more than that anyway because it fits better on this model Celica, or I just found it more aesthetically pleasing. I figure if every Castrol car had big differences, why not carry that on with mine too ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

I think this has been my favorite build thread by far. The dedication to accuracy and your persistence are enviable. Keep up the work...it's great! -------------------- Has no more Celicas

Thanks guys, that means a lot to me
![]() ![]() Per the big meet (giggle), I'd be down with that for sure. I travel all across Ohio anyway for my volunteering, so southern Ohio or Indiana would be do able for sure. Best of luck on getting those parts btw ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

I figure if every Castrol car had big differences, why not carry that on with mine too ![]() Yea...I think I drew a similar conclusion...there are hundreds of different versions.....I have done the same as you for my corolla.....taken my favourite bits from each design and made up a unique one that suited my taste and the look of the car best. The Malboro Celicas look cool...stunning in fact, but would require painting as well as stickers to pull off the look..... I`ve spent many months...if not years researching TTE Celicas...I get the feeling that after every graphics design they started again with a new one for every rally...really annoying when you want to accurately replicate a kit, also there are many non genuine castrol designs about which might be misleading. Anyway...yours looks very cool...I like it alot -------------------- |

Wow, I generally can't stand the look of any car with the abundance of decals on them, but I really like this Celica. The replication is top-notch. Nice detail work, man, it looks stunning!

Yes, the spoiler blocks and new spoiler are painted. It would have been on tonight, but my bolts weren't long enough. They'll be on tomorrow. I'll have pictures tomorrow or Wednesday morning of it truly completed (with the spoiler)....BUT As promised, the car is finally done with it's graphics. It's been a really hard, long... annoying.........costly road, but it feels like SUCH a pay off now. Here it is: ![]() Ok! Thanks for looking hope you all enjoyed. Ok I'm kidding.
