Hey Everyone,
I'm just curious as to why everyone bought their sixth generation Celica.

I bought mine because I saw a red hatch with 17" Focal Z1 rims at school a couple years ago, and I fell in love with the looks of the car! I thought I'd never be able to afford one, but I got a pretty good job more than a year ago and now I'm loving life with my Celi.

One day I needed a ride home from work and my friend picked me up in his parents teal 94 GT. I loved the "cockpit interior" from then the celi was a serious contender in my mind for what car I wanted. Then I saw a silver one and there were douts.

my friend talked me into it after i totalled my mustang, i actually was looking at a civic si, but i'm so much happier that i have my celica, it's a nice looking sports car with a luxurious interior (mine came with leather seats and woodgrain dash trim). plus there are very few 6th gen celicas in my town. biggrin.gif

I bought mine because I was having to pay for my gas at the time and I really wanted a 4Runner 4x4. But after looking at the mpg on it I said nope. Then I saw a friends 94 st and I loved it. I had seen some before and thought that they were sexy, a little bro to the supra. I worked my but off for 2 years to save up for one. I had been looking for one for a while but all the one that i found were a long drive and my dad said wait till we find one closer. Well I did and I bought it. The rest is history.

this past summer when i was looking for a car, the celica actually never came across my mind. i had been looking at lots of civics and eclipses, couldn't find anything for the right price. i went to the mistu dealer a week after i'd already been there and was set on buying this prelude i saw the previouse week, well i got out to test drive it and the guy comes out and says someone just bought it. so i was super pissed, so i drive around some more looking at cars and we just HAPPEN to stop at the toyota dealership. so me and my dad start to browse around the used car lot and can't find anything, so just as we are about to walk to our car , i see the black ST out of the corner of my eye. and i just new i had to have it. i really wanted a 5spd, but this oppurtunity was TOO GOOD to pass up. i mean how often do u find a 1994 Celica with only 68,000 miles on it? so we take it for a test drive and the rest is history biggrin.gif

now the only complaint i have is i wish it was a 5spd, DOH!

I can't make it more than a few miles driving around without seeing a Civic or Eclipse, and I knew I wanted something different. I couldn't afford a 7th gen Celica, so I found this great 6th Gen, Silver, 40k miles and I was hooked.

Problems? Well, same as you celicaBEst, I've got an auto, and it's an ST so it's slower than slow.

If there was one car besides this in similar price range it would probably be a Prelude, due to rarity and unique looks.

There was a car that i had wanted since i was in the 10th grade... i passed it every day on the way to school. it had stx on the side of it and at that time i didn't know what it was...jump ahead almost 4 years later...i saw the celica that i have now on the side of the road in pretty bad shape...i thought i should buy it... fix it up and it'd be something to race in (and it wasn't a Honda Mitsubishi or Ford). A few weeks later i saw thatvery same car of the past with stx on it parked outside the mall (the same color and everything)...i looked at the back finally and saw it was a celica...who knew that the car i had wanted for so long was the one i was thinking about buying...i guess it was destiny..that next week i get my own 6th Gen...the rest is history

This is long story but 1 that I will always remember....

I was coming home from school 1 day my senior year on ( the big cheese). My mom calls me and was like i bought you a car. My first impression was like "****" she probably bought me a saturn or some POS. So anyways when i get home my brother is waiting to take me to carmax to get my car. The whole ride up there i call my mom and asking her what i got. Of course she messes with me and wont tell me. When i get there my mom is outside with the car salesman. So of course im like so what u get me... She tells me its somewhere in this parking lot and to go find the car u like most. So of course there was a 97 integra gsr w/ full body kit and all hooked up. My Face lights up biggrin.gif She immediatly says no and i kinda get frustrated but kept my hopes up. Out of the corner of my eye i see the little red hatchback. I didnt know what it was because never really was into celicas. Im like " this one". The care salesman walks over to me hands me the keys and says "its yous". I think that was the happiest day of my life! I have been in love with celicas ever sence and take pride in driving my car. I dont mean to sound like im spoiled because I have worked ever sence i have been 14 and my mom thought i earned it. I still am paying insurance and the whole 9. Just thought i would share my story with you all.

Ever since my dad owned a Toyota Cressida, he's been into toyotas & always told me that I'd be owning one as well. Well toyotas are well built & last long but I never saw a toyota that I liked till the 6th gen came about & that's when I joined cnet & this site afterwords cause I knew it'd be the car I'd want to get & I got it & ice cream is yummy. biggrin.gif I love the lights the most, I hate when people compare it to an integra because it has a more aggressive look.

I got my Celica through my dad. It was his old car and I remember when I was little I would put the back seats down and put blankets in the trunk and go to drive in movies with him and my mom. I just always thought of it as a cool car and my dad wanted to get rid of it so I bought it for $1,000. It was the best purchase of my life smile.gif

Um.. I wrecked my love of my life, my bimmer. And then knew a friend that new a guy that hade toyotas for cheap, then did some searching cause i new nothing bout toyotas.. and then said the only cars i would get was a 6th gen black celica hatch 5 speed or an avalon. and went to go check his lot, and he had a black 6th gen hatch 5-speed. that was his ons so he knew it was in real good condition, then test drove it and it was 10 times better then my bros civic witch i was driving at the time, so i liked it, also it was a lot cheaper then the money i got back from my bimmer so i had money to live off of while i went to school, and he let me take it 2 weeks before paying him.. witch was nice, cause the check didnt clear an i needed a car for school.

i bought mine on impules. I was sick of my Civic because they were over played, o and the tranny was messed. I wanted a two door sports car that wasnt common. I kind of liked the body style of the eclipse, but i hated how popular they were. I was driving down the road and this perfect black 94' celica was sitting there all beautiful and waxed. I almost crapped my self when i saw it. I test drove it and probably 2 days later i bought it. compleatly impulse, and here in IL. they are not very common.

I just wanted something with good gas mileage. So i liked the Integra, but then I fell in love with the Supra (BEFORE FAST AND THE FURIOUS), but then i noticed it was WAY too expensive so i had to hold off on it. Thats when i saw the 6GC it looked like a baby Supra w/ round headlights like the teg. So i immediately wanted it. So here i am now. biggrin.gif

my cuz bought a 95 2.2 vtec prelude import ,i had to get into the import/jap scene,he then bought a non turbo supra and lent me the lude, cool car and i couldn't resist any longer,i needed a fast car ,with a integra type r,mr2 t bar and a celica gt in mind, integra too expensive to insure,mr2 too many kids have them,so the celica it was,£550 to insure, prety rare, and the jap spec is awsome so i have bought one ,45,000 miles,1993 ss2 for 2950£,i can have it for years and the price wont depreciate as quik as the other cars i have had[euro trash]

i was originally all set to buy a 7th gen. even went down to the dealer and picked one out... then i started thinking about how expensive it was, and realized that i liked the look of the 6th gen a whole lot better. after searching around for months and almost buying an automatic (could drive stick at the time..lol) i finally found my car.

I had my heart set on a Dodge Avenger for whatever insande reason, so I went car shopping. I had looked at two avengers and the price was right but there was one more place I wanted to check. Then I saw her.. *tears rolling right out front was this black ultra sexy celica. I was sooooooooo speechless at the car's lines and all. Test drove it, tried my best to swallow the price, and drove home in the love of my life! tongue.gif

Well, I was looking at alot of Volkswagens when i was shopping for a first car, and I loved the rally-esque look of the older VW's with the four headlights...

It must have been fate, because I was ready to buy a 92 Jetta that was in mint condition with very low miles, but my dad saw my silver Celica and drove it while I was at work.
He immediately called me and told me I HAD to get it, and that it was such a fun car to drive. Turns out the owner was an old high school friend of my dads, and he let us have it for $3200 instead of $5000....so we took it home, and for quite some time I felt pimp as hell because all my other friends either didnt have cars yet or were driving total buckets. wink.gif

When I was shopping for cars, I decided to browse through the cars in Gran Turismo 3!! I wrote down the cars that were cool looking and under a certain amount of cash. I pretty much limited it to the Celica and the Mitsu FTO. The FTO was too hard to get with shipping and everything, so I started shopping for a Celi. I pounced on the first one I could find because I looked for about a month before finally finding one. And Ta-Da! My Celica.

I loved it the first time I saw it in Germany, I was like 10 years old.
That actually whas a Supra, but at that time I knew what car I wanted to have.
Years went by, got my licence, drove a nissan sunny, after that when I still wasn't able to afford the Celica, I drove nissan 100NX and then I saw this Celica with 68000Km for a good price. Now it's mine. (still wanting the Supra)

My story may not be that great but here goes anyway. At first I had my beautiful 1987 Toyota Supra (which I still own). Believe me this thing is incredible. Well one night I was challenged to a race and I was dumb enough to accept. I ended up doing 145 mph down a highway and spun a rod bearing so my car was down for about 3 months. I was then stuck driving a pontiac and did I hate it (Imports All The Way!!!!). Anyway I was always looking for another import to take over temporarily but then I saw it. It was the most beautiful machine I ever saw. It was a red 94 celica ST. I saw so much potential it was unreal. So I went to my folks for a loan and snatched it up before the other ten people that were looking at it got it. Its been 7 months since I bought it and i have a full stereo system with a 7" LCD screen in my dash. I have a Blitz body kit and shogun spoiler waiting to be applied and painted with the rest of the car this spring.

I did get the supra fixed after I had a jap-spec engine with 35-40,000 miles on it swapped in it and still own it but am trying to sell it. If anybody would be interested in buying it send me a message.

My dad always had Toyotas he had a 82-corolla then a 85 celica, then about 4celica after. So he knew I was gonna have a Toyota, my first car was a 88 corolla(auto),then another 88 corolla (auto) then I got a 89 corolla (stick-5spd) I blew the motor then I had a ford turbo T-brid bigest F%&$ up of my life I got rid of it in 3 days, then put a 4A-GE in my 89corolla. then my dad got a 93 surpa (BEFORE FAST AND THE FURIOUS), I wanted it!!! then after he sold it (I saw a GT-4 when I went to JAMAICA), I knew I could not afford one. I looked of a 6th gen for 4yrs, fond one on auto trader.com drove 2 1/2 hrs away 3 diffrent times before I could take it home. after I got it I was the happest guy in the world!

Got out of old ST182. Got into ST205. Test drive. Rolled off lights, selected 2nd at about 15mph and nailed the throttle. Swallowed tounge.

Bought car.

Wrecked my first Celica also... went about 70mph into a wall (sideways) and crushed the car after the engine failed... That celica was originally a daily driver turned project car after my RX7 broke down... damn those rotaries... The current car was bought because it was DIRT cheap at the time...

Holy old thread! But why not.....

I bought our Celica because I needed a new more comfortable daily driver than the old 89 Celica I had (was falling apart, no A/C, running issues, ect). So, given how good the old one had been to me, I naturally went for a 6GC.

My stepmom had worked with a lady for years who had always owned sports cars and her two most recent cars were Celicas. Then she had grandchildren, so she decided to sell her ridiculously well taken care of 6gc to buy something a little bit bigger so she could get a car seat in it. She bought a Solara and before she had a chance to even mention to anyone else that her Celica was for sale, we bought it. Had it 5 months to the day and a deer stepped out in front of me. Bought this one because I had been without a car for several months and it was the only one for sale within 300 miles at the time. And because my parents wanted it. I would have rather waited and got one that I knew would be a better car, but my parents were paying the bill, so we bought this one.

I was looking for a nicer car because my fancy assed Xgf thought my truck was too redneck
to be seen in. I was looking at A4 audis when I saw the celi, which I had always loved the styling
of but couldn't ever find one. I completely forgot about looking at A4s and bought it. Six years later I
still love it. smile.gif

I was looking for something with better gas mileage than my Olds. Was originally going to get a Civic b/c they're fairly cheap, but my neighbor was selling his Celica which I fell in love with as soon as I saw him drive up in it a few years before. And now, I still own the car, love it everyday!

Well i was given the choice on my senior year in high school to find a car OR my parents were gonna buy a.......get ready

...........KIA Sonata!!! WTF!?!?!?

So i hunted down the closest thing to a 1st gen Celica cuz my dad has one and we still have it but its mines now biggrin.gif
Four eyes, sexy, dark color, manual, rare in my area, and something different.
This led me to the 6gc, four eyes, sexy, black (my choice), rare, no has/had one (Herosblade my cousin has one now, he lives like 5 secs away laugh.gif ) in the area, different from the other cars, and BAM!!!!!!! I be ballin' in the cellly ever since biggrin.gif making it more unique and sexier than ever.

dad bought the celica after celica his tundra. Brother crashed the celica after taking his friend and I down neighborhood area and got to 60 mph in 2nd and started braking too hard and tires locked it becuase it had just finished raining. He went up a curb and crashed into some bushes. Broke left a arm and left side fender. Car was given to me after everything was fixed. my brother was grounded and took out the celica without permission so they gave it to me.

Was glad i had a car I after started driving it at 15 and a half with permit. Then i found the 6gc webiste and liked the celica even more. Then about last year of october 2007 i totally fell in love with the ss-III w/ 3sge beams engine. Its my dream to have a ss-III replica minus the rhd and superstrut suspension.

I fell in love with the GT4's in Gran Tourismo and before then had never actually seen the 6th gen. then toyota bastardized the celica with the 7th gen and I had completely written toyota off my list of cars I liked.

Then in June of 2001 my '92 Grand Am died with something electrical, and 2 weeks later they still couldnt figure it out, so I started my car shopping. I found this on a lot and fell in love with it. Instantly remembering what I loved about the car that I would drive only in video games. It stretched my budget more than I wanted, but I loved the car and things worked out. Now i'm just about to hit the 100k mi mark since I bought it and I still love it just as much as when I got it 'new'. Its been my daily driver, my toy, my truck, and my racer. I love it.

well i just fell in love with toyota's being around them so much, grew up playing Gran tourismo and loved the gt4s and the celica's....all ways wanting one i could never find one in my area as they are really really rare. i got stuck wth a tercel as my first car and i bet the bag off it and i loved how it just took the abuse, next car i bought trying to get a lil sporty i got a 200sx 5spd wish was a money pit......when it was time for something reliable again i searched for xrs corrola's and looked at a few 240s but i wanted something un toched and some thing no one had.....a good friend of mine had boughten this car 2 years prior and i was so jealous cause it was a gt-s a 5 spd and red.....every thing i wanted!!...i had joined this site years ago and had done my research on what model i would need to swap a 3s into it....low and behold she put it up for sale.....lots and lots of ppl looked at the car and were gonna buy it......i said screw it and went and took out a loan so i could snag it up knowing it wouldnt last long on the market....now its mine!!! had it for almost a year now, take very good care of it and keeping it clean as possible and not ricing it out.....now im saving for a swap for the winter....if still got big plans for it.......most of all i like about it is the lines of the car and how it handles. i know own my dream car now iv just gotta make it the way i want it

I've wanted a 6th Gen since they first came out, but at the time I couldn't afford one, so I drove an '89 Celica for a couple of years. Sold it to get something bigger, drove an SUV for a few years and then gas went up and my commute got LONG. I sold the 4Runner so I could finally buy that 6th gen celica I'd been wanting for over 10 years and while I still miss my 4Runner 2 years later, I'm really happy with the Celi, even with its ridiculously high miles it's got tongue.gif

I think even if/when some day I sell my Celica, I'm always gonna be a Toyota girl. They're just bulletproof.

I bought mine as a second car for my dad and I.. We got it for $600, needing a transmission, and we got the trans. for $100. Its coming along slowly but surely.

Plus it gets AMAZING gas mileage, and is cheap to maintain.

Former motorcyclist, balls shrunk/brains grew. Ditched the Kawasaki for a Toyota under the "toyota built tough" illusion. Required two door sports car with a minimum of 2.0 liter engine. Ended up with a 3S-FE powered SS-I having no clue about the different suspension/performance options, thinking all Celicas were 2.0 liter sports cars boy was I wrong.

Anyhow, Since then I upgraded to an SS-III with the 3S-GE/LSD/Superstrut/2pot brakes and I thought I had found my Celica heaven, boy was I wrong again.

Now I have a 1996 GT-Four, now this is what Celica is all about, the rest are childrens toys.

I guess my love affair with these cars started upon my return to the States from Japan and just being in awe of the 6gC's style; there's something about how fluid and sleek this car is...the curvy back end combined with the sultry front end. Just gorgeous.

Since my freshman-year HS Civics project where we had to "budget" our lives once we made it to the "real world" and I chose a '99 Celica GT I've dreamed of owning one. 10 years, one Bachelor's degree, and one troublesome '97 Grand Am later I now own my dream car - a Red GT Hatchback.

I was looking for a new car, because my 1998 Buick Century was about to hit the ****ter, and the Celica was just in the right place, at the right time, with the right price tag. Paid 2,700 for my 96 5 speed coupe, with 58,000 miles on it. Nothing wrong with the car except for the suspension being a little shot and a little tiny bit of body damage that I took care of.

I gotta say, that buying this car was hands down a steal.

I loved the shape of them. Everwhere around me has Scoobies and Evo's so I wanted something different when I decided to get a new car. It had to be a turbo. I had liked the Gen6 GT4 for years so I started looking for importing one as my fathers garage done that. But I picked this one up a few months later 1 day after selling my old car.

I ****ing love it. Plus the insurance for one is half the price as an evo or scooby and I have no idea why !

I am paying £95 per month, fully comp for the car. Had it over a year

what made me buy mine was the fact i was needin a car, i only had so much...was bout to buy suv and saw this celica there for sale, thought it was a supra at first, took a look at it saw it was not a supra......... noticed the price was within my range called the guy ask him if i could test it he handed me the keys says enjoy im gonna wash my car, so i took it for a spin and love the way it felt great shifting good power came back while he was drying his rims off took a look at the mechanics of it, liked it so then i handed him the cash he gave me the title....as i was driving it from where it was parked a cop slamed into me from bhind.....he got in trouble cuz he was lookin at his computer other the watchin the road gave me 1400$ so what i spent on the car i got it back.....got the car for free...lol....btw the reason he sold the car was cuz he bought a white 6gc hatch...he sold me the coupe....the guy i bought the car from witnessed the cop hittin me...lol i bet he wanted to cry seeing his car hit like that right after transaction

TECHNICALLY that statement is incorrect. 1st gen celi before 1st gen Supra.

Should be the MKIV came out before the 6th gen celi.

But I do love that both cars have similar body styles, it's a good look smile.gif

I wouldn't swap my GT4 for a Supra, no matter how much power it had.

Kinda funny actually how i wanted a 6th gen. Well back in the states, i kinda sorta made an impromptu decision to take my little honda prelude off-roading. Lol, long story, but anywho the experiance and fun i had at that moment, err after i had sat down and thought about what i had done, got me into wanting to start/take up rallying. And being the toyota guy i am, i figured there was no other car to do it in, than a Celica GT4. True, i was in america at the time, and finding a GT4 was downright next to impossible.

So a few threads on this site, gave me the idea that maybe i could attempt the drivetrain swap on an american 6th gen. Yes yes, it wouldve been difficult/expensive, but i was determined and very tenacious about it all... Good thing happened though, because i got orders overseas, eventually landing me back in okinawa. And with a chance to finally get what i wanted, i jumped!!!

And i agree, i would NEVER swap my GT4 for a supra..dont care whats special about it biggrin.gif
And any mention of the idea would be pure blasphemy laugh.gif

You know i boast alot to some ppl that yea it can be done for the right price! There are ways, but no matter what, i plan on keeping it for a few more years, either in japan or by having a nice stay over in europe for a few years. What happens after that, well ill see when i get there wink.gif

can't you simply import it after its 15 years old though? so you'd just need to stay there till 2010? Or if the military is going to pay the freight, then you could just garage it until its eligible to be registered.

1) The military is not going to pay the freight for his car. I'm all for supporting the military, but I'd be pissed if that's where my tax dollars went considering there are guys in Iraq who are still going around without adequate equipment. I can think of far better things to spend tax money on, and hopefully the US Govt can too.
2) You can't import it into the US anyway. That's Canada, not US. And I think there's some weird issue/change of heart going on about it in Canada, too... something about safety standards IIRC.

ah, I didn't know it was Canada that had the 15 year importing rule. oh well.
About the freight, I assumed that the military would ship all of his belongings home with him free of charge. I would assume that he has some furniture or something that he's going to bring back stateside if he comes. I just thought that they wouldn't charge him shipping and handling.

EDIT: sorry for taking this thread off track too.

Yes griffgurl you are right with the 15yr rule. American likes to wait 25 years for such rules to NOT apply. And as far as shipping it over through the military. Lol, my friend LilJoe on this site acn answer that question best. I think it goes, that their is a list the military has that says what cars they will/will not ship. A non-conforming list i think is what its called. And to ship a vehicle pretty much, you have to find your own importer, one that can bring the vehichle up to "stateside regs" and the the military will worry about shipping. Noe of course your vehicle will still have to be on that list saying that it non-conforms, and needs this and that to be legal in america. And yes the 6th gen is on that list. Not too sure if it covers the GT4 though. But that for vehicles coming from japan. And the rules are different in europe. Also i think i mightve gotten some of that info wrong tongue.gif

Oh and also, griffgurl yes there are two wars going on and having money sent to the troops over there is a very important thing. Lol, trust me im here now, and if we need something ill be glad to get it. But also, you have to keep in mind that the shipping of cars and vehicles at the militaries expense, is one of our benfits. Due to us PCS'ing all the time, and its meant to help take the load off of our backs when we move base to base. And yes its useful. Over the past 6 years ive only spent 1.5 years in the states, and i had to leave a car back in america that im still paying money on, just for the military. IM not looknig for sypathy, but hey, thats how it works out for us.

And besides they (the goverment) set aside so so much money every fiscal year for things like that which shuold cover all branches...so ehh....

besides im sorry but i think ive gotten this thread alittle off subject...sorry mods biggrin.gif
