Has this ever been done with the 6gc fam? If not, maybe we should try this sometime. Meet in the middle(time wise, cuz its easier to get across long distances faster from out west to east rather than vice versa). I know it'd be rough, but how about a plan for sometime in this coming year, like mid year, or the year after? Put down your thoughts people. It would be cool to get a big cross country meet going.

itd have to be late summer.
that would maybe be enough time to gather intrest in the masses.

Lebanon, Kansas

i wouldnt be willing to drive that far unless i knew that over 100 6gcs would be there

i think the idea would be to make it an all gen celica meet

That'd be awesome! Like DSM Shootout but for celicas.... smile.gif

EDIT: The Dragon run is already a pretty popular event on alltrac.net and celicatech.com.... I can imagine that it would get a little dangerous with 100+ celicas tearin it up at the same time....

Yeah, you'd have to plan it very far ahead of time and promote it a lot across Toyota boards/Celica boards. If something like this were to ever happen, It'd be awesome though.

Hopefully we cld make the meet at least a cpl days. The dragon is a great spot, but A, its not central us, B, theres too many cops and tourists/rv in the summer, and C, not a good spot for that many of us. Id love to have 100 plus members as well, but realistically, if its planned right, we would prob have about 50 6gens. I do think making it an all years type thing would be good. And just an fyi, if we get enough ppl of all gens(i would like a good turnout from 6gc), I can get some sponsoring from toyota. Its gotta be big though, something that'll spark their interest. I've already discussed some of this with some corporate guys. We are talkin really cheap hotels, free food/drinks for yota owners during the car show portion, some free gear(hats n keychains and +50hp stickers), and some coverage on their website and other media that they distribute. This could be big, just gotta get the interest.

You've got my vote. I've also got sponsor connections with Toyota as well as some big performance shops in TN/GA that said they will be in if the turn out is big enough (75+ cars). I just hope the turn out is big enough. I've got (4) ready to roll when the time comes. Working on more.

CO has some roads that are at least comparable to the Dragon if you ask me. Like Hwy 50 West between Canon City and Salida. And it's more central than the dragon... Any takers?

The thought is amazing, but Holy Heck! What a frigging drive. I doubt I will/would be able to do this until years and years later down the road. I mean, on our side, we can't even get a West Coast meet, let alone a USA meet.

Im all about big meets, but I agree with Random, its hard enough to get people together out here in DFW. Sponsors and stuff would be great, and late summer will give me enough time to get everything situated, but it would be nice to know where its going to be before i commit to anything.

My thoughts are towards late summer of the coming year or maybe even the year after that, this way we wont have anyone saying, "oh, I didn't know" or "that's last minute", ya know? And I'm looking into where would be a good spot and pretty much picking a good central area, and then I will contact my contacts at corporate for Yota and see if it would be a doable stuff if we got enough celicas and stuff to commit and show up. Right now, I'm just in the planning/gauging interest part atm. I'm hoping that maybe I can have some solidified/semi-solidified ideas for the plans on where and when by the end of the month. Keep the ideas coming in with some suggestions and all that good stuff and any input.

I'm thinking somewhere in Oklahoma, Kansas, or Nebraska based on time and all that and where the most interest comes from, meaning, if we get a lot of Northeast interest, go with Nebraska, mixed will mean Kansas, and if it's Southeast, we should shoot for Oklahoma. Just throwin out ideas tho atm.

Oh, and Faust, We will get a full Cali meet going at the start of next year, and I'll make sure we get a nice turnout. I mean come on, we had 11 members come to a last minute meet not too long ago. I got it.

I'm in for anywhere. Even the coasts, although I know that's out of the question. If there's a Celica meet big enough with enough attention for the 6gc, then I say we go for it. I'm willing to help out however I need to.

If you want, you can start PMing all the ppl in your state and stuff and just send em the link to this thread and ask them to please leave input. Same with everyone. That way we can make sure the whole community sees it and stuff. And if anyone knows some of the people who don't frequent this site anymore, but still have a celica and you have another way of contacting them, tell them to please check out the thread and leave some feedback.

i would be willing to participate if everything was actually planned out and we have people showing some genuine interest... the idea sounds great but like most people... i am not going to travel cross country by myself in a swapped celi.. theres just too many issues that could arise... if it was some sort of giant caravan... then i would be down... but it has to be something that i would be willing to use a week of my vacation time in order to do... not just a meet and greet and leave...

Of course. Try PMing some ppl in your area/state and surrounding states and send em the link to this thread. I would hope that we could get caravans from all over, that way we can watch each others backs and help if any problems arise. I'm looking at probably it being about a 3 day meet kinda thing, longer for those that want, and shorter for those that wanna just stop by.

Biggest fear that people have is hauling 4000 miles round trip, about $500 spent just to find out that only a couple of cars showed up... not the kind of get together that we see in smaller countries or in bigger cities where driving to location takes 40 minutes. But err dragon is fun to drive on with 9000 cops waiting to catch people having fun

Good luck getting everything set up people. I won't attend, but it'll be a sight to see in pictures for sure.

You wouldn't be able to come at the end of summer this year or next year even? That's a hectic schedule lol.

Yeah, it cost me about $200 to drive from Wilmington, NC(the beach) to Phoenix, AZ. Another tank when I moved from Phoenix to Cali(and that tank would've gotten me to the beach. Mileage will differ from location to location, so that's why the meeting place is gonna be based on where we get the most solid interest from. If it's more north, we go north, more south, we go south, and mixed, then we go right in the middle. If it's not enough interest to get more than 50 ppl on 6gc alone to attend(not counting the other sites I plan on posting on, and other clubs((yotas only, preferably celicas, then supras, mr2s, and camrys))), then we wont have it this coming summer and will shoot for the summer afterwards. I gotta get a good following for this one if we want it sponsored and all that. I talked to my dude at Yota and he was saying that region would work, but I need to get more solid interest of course. Also, he mentioned something about some gas cards to help out with everything(won't cover the full cost, but will help). And all of you members who live in one of the 3 mentioned possible states should have no excuse not to show up ppl, even if for just one day of this meet when its out of theory and more into planning.

Again, spread the word people so we can get some feedback.

P.S., some of you Canadians should come down too, depending on where you are at, cuz some of you aren't far at all from the area we are looking at.

I most likely can, pending that I don't have a job. But sorry, driving a few days for a meet in the middle of the country is a bit ridiculous.

I feel ya on that. That's why if we do get enough possible interest and things start coming together, we will figure out where, and then plan out some cool things to do and see along with the meet. It's probably about a 22 hr drive from you to OKC which isn't too bad, but definitely a long way if you are busy/the turn out wont be great. Tryin to prevent the second thing from happening by getting some ideas off ppl now. Figure there's no better time to start getting this set up than now, earlier the better.

Well...there are a lot of things you can do as far as what is going to happen at the meet. For example, out here there was an ATS meet (its a local shop, specializes in MR2's, swaps, etc). What they did was have a 3 day meet in which people had to pay an entry fee. In these 3 days they had seedoo excursions, dyno/tune day, track time, a little drive, BBQ. Im sure that someone here went to it and can shed more light on what they did. But its an idea. Get some sponsors, do a meet/greet, dyno/tune days, stuff like that. Even if it was two days but you had things going on Im sure youd get a better turnout.

I do admit that if the event was Toyota sponsored, free shwag, a little track time, maybe dyno time, would be awesome. However, I don't see why Toyota would care. Sadly. frown.gif

dabazied, 22 hours sounds about right. Quite a distance. But I'll be keeping my eye on this thread anyway.

Oh for sure. I think the entry fee thing isn't such a good idea for us, just because we *fingers crossed* will have people spending loads on gas and stuff like that coming halfway across country for some of us. But, once we get some more people in the maybe pile, we will decide on an area, get the sponsor stuff worked out, then figure out what there is in the area to do and plan out some details on what we should do by popular vote.

And Swiss, Toyota has no sporty cars out at the moment. They are doing good on the sales that they have. To see if the company wants to roll out some newer sporty cars or bring some back from the dead(per the guy I've been talking with), a nice little car show/Yota sponsored meet would help gauge interest on doing something like that and re-expanding their line up. Gets their name out there more, shows what they used to be, and sees if there are enough people wanting to see some great cars from toyota. If they get enough people to come to a show, and get good reviews from people looking, then bam, they are more likely to put out a sporty car WITH a Yota badge. That's just how he explained it to me. Also, depending on when this happens(meaning this or next yr) there is a possibility of them bringing out the new mystery car that they HAVE been working with subaru on to show it off.

I agree with not having an entry fee as well....I think they used it to cover some costs. The only problem I would see with sponsors, is that the local sponsors would have a problem selling their stuff to people who are not locals. For example, if I want to get the celica's interior redone, im not going to drive out of state to do it....

Well, so far, all I have is Yota, so after we get more organized I will start contacting local places in the area to see if they wanna sponsor in the way of maybe something discounted or if they do some sort of service, make it so that it would be pretty much done while at the actual meet or whatever, just simple stuff.

Pretty sure that secret car is called the FT-86. Not so secret.

I'd definitely go if Toyota brought the FT-86, even just to look at. But I say if your contact at Toyota says if we can get a good group of sports car interest going, then we hit up all the Toyota forums. Celicatech, Supraforums, MR2OC, the works. Let's get EVERYBODY to come. I definitely want the 6gc scene to have a good share of this though. I don't want to see our cars get completely shut out. But I say we get everyone we can to come. I'm sure if this meet turns out to be big enough, then certain shops would LOVE to have us. Imagine all the money walking around at a meet like that. Surely some shop or some track will want to get a part of that.

sounds really really fun if the turn out can be really in the 100's but 22hours of driving kindasad.gif personally I don't think I can handle something like that, and I am all for meets.

Definitely, I will be hitting up the other forums and some of the club connects I have to get more cars out. I definitely would like to get it so that we have a really strong 6gen presence as well. This is my community, toyota is my community in a broader spectrum, so I'm not leaving the rest of the fam out, but 6gc is where I belong for a long time.

2C2L, come on now, we will caravan out there, and its not quite 22 hrs to OKC from here, it was 22hrs for him cuz hes down south in FL. It's close, but not quite. Plus we have New Mexico and AZ that makes it a little quicker of a drive for us out here. Distance, we are about the same, but time wise, we have a little less than that as a drive out there.

That's geographic, not driving wise, trust me on that. But like I said, the location will shift a bit based on responses of positive maybes/I'm in's from ppl and where they are coming from.

I do agree that the MOST central location should be used, unless there's a bias of attendees from a certain coast/area.

Kewl, and trust me, if it's looking like a dud, it wont happen. socal and mid cal 6gcs will attempt a nice caravan(even if i have to show up on their doorsteps to drag em out), and then we can pick up AZ and all the states along the way.

Having been a member of this site in one way or another since site's conception... there seems to be a recurring pattern when people chicken out of the meets. So its kind of hoping for a miracle if you know what I mean with 10% turnout from those that do sign up. I must have gone to 20+ meets 5 of them being from this forum site and I can only hope for the best I suppose.

if i still have my celica when this takes place... i would not mind attending PENDING that there is some sort of guarantee that after traveling across half the galaxy this wont turn out to be a dud... I could probably factor it in my paid vacation time too to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Kewl, and trust me, if it's looking like a dud, it wont happen. socal and mid cal 6gcs will attempt a nice caravan(even if i have to show up on their doorsteps to drag em out), and then we can pick up AZ and all the states along the way.

this loan Idahoan will meet the caravan somewhere lol!

Yay!

And Yarik, I totally understand on that. Also, with that, if there are enough people that don't chicken out, it'll be good. And with my experience on the meets here I've heard of horror stories about no one showing up or it being super small, but this is not gonna be one of those when it happens. It will be a lot of ppl comin out. Most everyone who has said yes has a good track record(yes I watch the meets from other areas to see who is a flake on here lol). There seemed to only be a couple coming to our last socal meet, yet we had a really nice turn out. Originally had like 8 people sign up, then 4 more signed up through either the forum or pms to me, then had a couple ppl send me msgs the night before the meet saying they were coming(ppl that hadnt even said they were coming yet), so out of like 13, there were a total of 10 members at the most at one point, and some left after most of the day and we met up with one more, so out of even 15 having 11 is a good turn out, especially considering it was a last minute meet. This one will come together.

^ I think Celicas in general should count. Those that are stock are just up-and-coming members to the scene, usually. Not sure what you consider stock...I mean, I have zero engine work.

all im saying is that when people have a capability to see something up close, touch it and look at it from different angles they are a lot more motivated to keep their projects going and ordering parts with confidence.

Here is an example: My ohh my what would a supra spoiler look like on a blue celica? Odds are that you will see a supra spoiler on a blue celica in a meet. Or lets say that you are driving with a body kit and cant figure out how to better mount rear bumper and then you look at 15 other celicas with that bumper and "eureka" moment hits you. Encouragement goes a long way. Thats how most of us old farts got ideas in the first place ;-)

come to think of it. I wouldnt mind driving that far. Especially since i will have a rebuilt motor by then it will be a good time to break it in.

And guys that own supras dont have any respect for fellow 6gcer's. Im sure most of you already knew that.

Encouragement and eureka moments aside, I think it would just be awesome to get together with 6gc's from all over the country as well as other 'Yoties. I'd like to talk to some Supra and MR2 owners to see how they really like their cars, since talking to someone in person is much different than posting in a thread. I'd like to talk to the guys that have done 3S swaps and see how they like daily driving their cars, get stories of times this happened or that happened, etc. Like you said, yarik, it's encouraging plus you get to meet some really cool people.

I'm cool with Spolski going. I'll leave my car on the outskirts with his Mini; I don't want to embarrass the 6gc scene.

i say encouragement depends from person to person. a lot of factors to consider to be really into modding our cars. availability of funds, time, mechanical skills, priorities, etc.

example one can just be photoshoped. there are people who has done that and they do have pics that you can play in photoshop. i know its different when you see it in person but, are you willing to drive thousands of miles just to see a supra spoiler look like on a blue celica?

second example most of the time can be answered in the forums. thats why there is a forum to discuss topics like exterior styling.

but anyway, everyone is welcome with or without mods.

The Dragon isn't centralized for the U.S. and wouldn't be fair to most of the country, plus WAYYYYY too many cops and tourists/campers. Aand Vernon, same reason as the first part of the reasons for exing out the dragon(its fun, but there are way better roads with less cops and traffic, even in that area).

I'd like to see Deathtoakill or whatever dudes s/n was that is working on the supra rear and 7g/350front to see if the pics do it justice, or if it just looks good in pics. Theres lots of ppls cars on here I'd like to see in person and lots of ppl I'd like to meet. It will be fantastic when this comes together a bit more(with less excuses of why ppl cant go) and happens.

I'd do it, I've been up and down the east coast, but nothing out west, not even Ohio. Just as long as some other PA'ers go with me. I think it would be pretty sweet. Plus it has to be during the warm/hot months, cuz I wanna ride top down the entire way. Annville, PA to Lebanon, KS is only 1,321 miles (21H 21M) I mean I put that kinda mileage on my car in like 2 weeks. I just noticed there are toll roads, I hate toll roads, I wonder how much they are. Anyway, I totally down, especially if other 6GC's are going to be there!

New Brunswick to Lebanon, KS (everytime I think Lebanon, I think down the street for me.....Lebanon, PA biggrin.gif ) is 2138.2 miles, 31 hr 19 min. If you're willing to drive that, my god people come on, it'll be fun!

Hey-o! We got one Canadian in! If it's not this summer but next, I might have my car completely done. Getting a " thumbsup.gif " over a picture of my car is one thing, but to see people and have them say "Oh, well I like this but you could use some work here" would really get things going. I think a meet like this can be done if we give it enough time. Of course, 6gc isn't a huge community, so we'll inevitably have to have the support of other forums, but this could be epic.

The only meet I've been able to count on 110% on is the Celicatech TOTD Meet. Its practically the same time every year, bigger every year, nicer every year, more fun every year and NEVER canceled.
Its the only meet I've ever made $3000 worth of deposits on advance reservations for and not even thought to worry about a penny of it disappearing.

I know that seems much too far for the Western group, but if you're looking for a SURE thing, its as close as you are going to get. Because of that, it is one of the only Toyota meets that has an inkling of a chance of seeing a FT-86 debut or anything else remotely sponsored, being that its one of the only meets within this community that has sure-fire track record and large attendance.

The Dragon does have a ton of tourist and cops after 10:00am on the weekend, but there are thousands of roads around here that the locals know. Not try to suede any one to come down but if you do give me a shout. biggrin.gif East TN and Western NC have some amazing roads and scenery. Some you can go fast on and some you MUST stay under the speed limit. I have been going to the dragon for 10+ years and I have not got a ticket yet (knock on wood) I was involved in a crash on my R6 but hey it happens! wink.gif

Yeah? And how did that all get started? Aaaalllllllll the way back. Probably started as a pretty small meet. Someone took pictures, said its a good time. Word spread. So why wouldn't that be able to happen for a more centralized location...?

The Tail of the Dragon Run started as the Pigeon Forge Meet 7 or so years ago. The first year there might have been six cars. The second year there might have been 10. The third year there were 20.

Last year, we had a total car count of over 50. And that is not taking into account that most cars had two folks.

It happens in the Spring, before the summer. That way the traffic is lighter, the police presence it not as noticeable. That is not to say that they aren't out there, but they are there to do a job, and that job is to keep everyone safe. Even with folks getting pulled over (me) a good time was had by all.

The secret is not about going fast, or showing out. It is about good folks, with nice cars enjoying one another. The awesome roads are just a bonus.

Plus the Skyway is where the real fun is. There are no police, and the roads are more forgiving and not nearly as technical as the Dragon.

I understand that it is a long way for a lot of folks, and I don't want to pretend that the Dragon Run is the only meet out there. However, for those of you have have been in the community for any length of time, you are going to see some folks that have been here since the beginning of the internet revolution. That is the real secret of what makes the Dragon Run unique. That is why we have members drive out from Washington State, Colorado, California, New York, Chicago, Utah and Florida. Even if you don't drive out, you can fly out and ride with, we have folks that do that every year as well.

Anyways, I didn't want to derail the thread to plug a separate event, I just thought I might shed some light on why the Tail of the Dragon Run is considered what it is.

I would love to see something similar established on the West Coast, but I will tell you, it is a lot of work to get it together and get it such a large event. As far as sponsorship and the like... Well, I don't know, I have never gotten our meet sponsored, although we do have shops that come out and sell stickers and give advice (Phoenix Motorsports and Dr Tweak) as well as T-Shirts and the like. I just like the down home personal feel of it, and I have met a lot of GREAT folks. You would have to know to understand.

And frankly, that is why meets like this should happen. There are a lot of great people in our community, and dammit, everyone should know them.

That area is amazing, but there are going to be, I thought about it, and the only real way of saying it is, whiners. I haven't been to that meet yet, but I do like the TOTD, well, the surrounding roads a little better because of less traffic/cops. Honestly and realistically, most of the west coasters on here probably wouldn't be down for meeting almost completely on the west coast, which is why we are hitting somewhere a little more centralized, and yep, we will probably start out the first one as a small group, but it will grow as well.

As for something on the west coast, the closest thing we have is our socal meets, amazing roads, great people and a lot of fun. We should probably branch out on the fall meet this coming year to toyota nation and a few other sites to see what we can come up with, just to try it out. I've been on both sides of the country and love both, the canyons here are amazing, but the dragon(surrounding roads) is .... well, the dragon. Both of them are amazing.

What we are trying to do, is make it easier on the group as a whole instead of making it wayyyy longer for a big chunk of members and making it wayyyyy closer for another chunk. And every meet has to start somewhere. Hopefully I will be able to make the TOTD in the next meet or two.
