I have trannies with LSD's I'm only keeping one, the issue is, one is a mechanical TRD LSD and the other is a hellical TRD LSD.

of course the guy who got them for me, didn't mark them down, so I don't know which one is which.

I want to keep the hellical as is maintance free, oppose to the mechanical that uses clutches.

if you have any idea of how to identify each without taking the engine apart, please share the acknowledge.

almost forgot,

these are E series trannies

the part number for mechanical LSD that fits the E series tranny are

41301-SW202
41301-SW211

they are both discontinued

TRD LSD Oil
A0420-A0000 ( this is the one recommended for FF, there is a different one for FR )

rebuild parts are still available in Japan

Shim 40101-SW201
Repair kit 40107-AW111

also when I say E series trannies, I mean

E153, E51, E58

even tho these transmission are bolted to

3sgte, V6 and 4agze engines they all use the same LSD diffetential, and unless I missed something on my research ( just now ) there was no hellical LSD made for these transmission, which sucks as it means that I have to order a rebuild kit ( ~ 200 shipped ) in order to trust such LSD.

culp can you get straight thru pics through the axle holes also if you pull the speed sensor you should be able to see the lsd through that hole and get pics

I can do that, but they both look the same, they both have the rod going through the middle of the " hole " which validates what I found that, there was no hellical LSD made for these engines ( at least not by toyota ) so maybe they both have the same type of LSD, unless one of them is aftermarket, kindasad.gif and there is so little info about LSD, and they being install doesn't help to identify them either lol.

I'm just gonna open the tranny and rebuild the LSD if if mechanical, if it's hellical just close it right back.

the scary part is that I'm serious tongue.gif

if they both have the rod in the middle they are the stock viscus type lsd. trd did make a helical lsd but it has no bar in the middle

as far as available information from toyota / TRD sites, there was no viscous LSD, the part numbers for the stock MR2 LSD correspond with the mechanical TRD LSD part numbers, and since the LSD was an option, I'm assuming they were all mechanical, but hopefully someone outthere has information that says otherwise.

my main issue is that if they are all mechanical, I'd need to rebuild one of them to use, and have a spare rebuild kit for when that goes.
viscous as the hellical just need an special oil and you never have to open them up.

when you say mechanical do you mean the clutch type lsd. if you look through the speed sensor hole near the speedo gear you should be able to see the clutch pack if it is a clutch type. the stock e153 lsd was a viscous type http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/diag_AEKXZC.png

what's the full part number of the viscous LSD

41301 is the begining of it, but I can't seem to find the same picture as you did.

the link to toyodiy you posted is for the s54 tranny, not for the e153, note that is says S54 on top of the diagram.

and the spyder forum doesn't really clear things up, but good info none the less.

you are right, page 2 shows the LSD diff, but it doesn't show the part number, or price for it, even on page 2 it only shows the part numbers and prices for non LSD diff.

Let's just hope the diff on those trannies I have are Viscous as they are also maintence free and almost bullet proof. the only way to damage them is by over heating, which with proper maintance should never be an issue.

see edit above with pn. yeah either way you have an e153 with lsd. when you get home you can narrow it down alittle more by looking at it. the bar on the helical one should match the pics in the spyderchat link. also when you look in the speed sensor hole you should be able to see the helical gears if it is a helical lsd

LSD info

most of the info these is intended for E51 / E58 but all E series transmissions share differentials so this also applies to E153 transmission.
