So I've always enjoyed creating things, and started with ceramics in high school. I have since tried my hand at ice scuplture and now most recently I started my first piece out of marble. My uncle does marble sculpture and he tossed a chunk of it in my direction to get me started...

I decided to make a baby koala perched on a fork in a tree. Here is what I started with and how far I've gotten to date. It's a xmas present for a certain lady in my life, that just got back from Australia..

That's what I've got so far... trying to have it done by Thursday. I'll post more when I've gotten some more done.

Starter with a masonry disc on a saw to cut out the first few large chunks around the tree base. Then switched to hammer and chisel for about 80% of the sculpture. I got a file specifically for marble/ceramic that helper me get it smoother and round. And right now I'm going between smalls chisels, file and a stone grinder attachment on a dremel to do the minor details... Its coming along fairly well I think, I'm almost done, I figure I shouldn't get too picky on my first piece.
