Alright, so in a suggestion Im starting a new DFW Meet thread. Since Matt is no longer an active member (and Brady sold his Celica almost as soon as he got it), it left our meets in a kind of limbo. So I'm going to do my best to get some things going on here. Like I stated in the previous DFW thread I would like to get at least 3-4 good meets throughout the year. But I cant do it without your help. What I figured Id do is a ways before the meets, throw out some ideas, we'll decide together on what we want to do and do it! I also want to spread the meets around our area. We have a lot of room to work with, so lets take advantage of that.
In the next few days keep an eye out on this new thread for information. As far as the next meet I was thinking about setting it for March 6 weekend (first one in March). I'll update this thing here in a few days, also going to try to import some of the old pics over and whatnot.
Till then!
-Josh
Oh, one more thing...id like to keep this thread as free from clutter as possible. I know im just as bad as the next guy, so im going to keep it down on my part as well.

Alright. Its been a while now and Ive done some thinking. Personally I would love to do a cruise, but I kind of figured that some of the people who might be attending don't even know each other (other than what they know on here). So I suggest we have meet and greet type of thing, that way we all get to know each other. As far as the date I'm pretty set with March 6th (first weekend in March). Time and location still TBD.
1.) Lake Arlington, then cruise to "The Parks" (like we did last time)
2.) Grapevine Lake, then head over to Grapevine Mills (pretty much like the first meet...for those who remember)
3.) 2B's place. He has offered his place before, so I see no reason why to turn it down as a possibility (plus free food and minor maintenance!)

Considering this is pretty much a month and a half off, it should be plenty of time for everyone to make plans to be there (pending special circumstances), and it would be nice to have a better turnout than four members. So, mark it on your calendars!

As far as where we do this at, go ahead and PM me (or text) with which one you'd like to do and whichever one has the most response, we'll set it for that.

Its hard for me to plan way ahead of time since i travel alot with work, but usually I come home for the weekend. Though the weekend I try to catch up with family and run errands.

I will put that on my calendar and will look forward to attending the meets. I haven't done anything much to the car since we last meet because of winter and all. If you guys are willing to drive to my house in murphy, then I can guarantee plenty of parking and free food. There's a big drive way and maybe if you guys want to do some light maintenance then we can do that to - like oil change or whatever that doesn't take too long. Just putting it out there.

well...just because of location i would love to go to grapevine thats about 20/30 minutes away and murphy is about an hour....weekends are the best time for me...and planning it in advance is quite helpful to me. I want to be able to go, i just need a good couple weeks heads up.

(side note, this is pending that i have no tests the following monday etc...but i usually come home on the weekends anyway.

And btw, if driving out to murphy will be the only chance i get to see 2b's car, then i can suffer smile.gif the grapevine is me being selfish...but it also wont be cold then, what about grilling by the lake? just a thought.

I think Murphy is a bit far for everyone. Thats why I'm trying to bribe you guys with free food and stuff so I can be with the family and friends at the same time. Sorry thats just me being selfish. My dad is a mechanic also, so he can join us and help you guys with the celica. If you want a good price on mechanical work being done then he can give everyone a great deal too. I have plenty of tools in the garage that we can use if we decide to work on cars and great work space as long as it doesn't rain. I was thinking along the line of what Josh said and we can do a BBQ thing in the back yard. Like Josh said - This should be a great meet for everyone to get to know each other.

Oh one more note -- when you come into Murphy becareful of speedtraps and do a full stop at stop signs.

Hey, just to throw this in here....its the clipped video of the turbine run. Turbine Run Thread

After driving the route I found, I dont think the whole route needs to be followed. There are a few points where the road becomes a one lane two way road that is littered with potholes...trust me, I hit one while trying to dodge another. I did a slight revision so we pretty much drive the best parts, which only comes out to about 60-80 miles total. The only downside is we'd have to meet in Munster....and for most of us that's about 1hour and a half away (if not more). So it'll be alot of driving. I spent 5 hours today. So it'll probably come out to about the same...maybe less? Honestly, this is probably the best road to drive around here.
I had a great time and only had a few complaints (one being that bridge in the video). I might be heading out there again next month, to get some better video. So if your interested and have the time to kill, let me know.

Alright, got a reply from 2B.

The meet will be held at his house (I will post the address on here at the end of the edit).
The time its going to go on is going to be around 1100 with lunch around 1230-1300. What I need from everyone else is to bring some drinks, sides, desserts, etc...So, check the list to see what everyone is bringing as far as I know its going to be a burger burn. But like everything, it may change.
It should also be noted that these times are just a rough estimate, but if you want to do more involved work on your car (and we're not talking droping an engine or anything) you can get there after 0800.

3.)ZFJohnson-
4.)AkiraD1-
5.)Hazmat-
6.)CandyRed6GC-
7.)TinoCel-
8.)97Celiman-
9.)Fried-
The Location: 1223 Rodeo Dr, Murphy TX 75094
Time to Travel: From Dallas - about 35 min/ Arlington - about 50 min/ Fort Worth - about 60 min/ Denton - about 60 min. Keep in mind those are really rough estimates (traffic, actual distance, etc will vary). And please don't say anything about how "its too far"(not trying to be an ass) I'm driving about an hour plus to get there (and plenty of us drove the same for other meets). So if you want to meet up we can make a cruise out of it as well.
I would like to add more members to this list, so get a hold of me, cause it'll pretty much be finalized in two weeks!
Thanks.

March 6th (saturday). You can come as early as 8am to do some work on your celica if you want, but food probably won't be ready until 3pm. You guys are welcome to test drive the beams also when we go out for a cruise.

cough pick me! also not to ummm way impose myself, but would it be possible to change tranny oil? i havent ever done so god knows how many miles are on the oil in there. but i have 3 quarts of it...stupid question but do i need a tranny oil filter? i am thinking no. and also my reg oil cuz i'll have like 8k on it.

my pity me excuse is that i don't have facilities to do it at school...and i don't want to pay people to do it. I got tools and stuff i can bring...but even the stuff i have at home, i can't jack it up enough to get to trans...i can prob get there like 1030-11 assuming i find it ok

Im going to try to get there around 1030-1100 (so I'll be rolling out of Ft Worth around 930....give or take). If anyone want to go with me, let me know and I'll try to meet you guys somewhere. Other than that, reminders are going out to ppl who replied. I'll post one more update on thursday-friday.

Not a problem - just bring your oil or you can go buy it from autozone which is 2 minutes from my house. Oh I forgot to mention -- If you guys want to wash your cars at my place that is cool too if you don't mind a $4 fee for the water.

Oh on another note -- I just took my car to Steve on DallasImport to have him repaint my car -- I will be dropping it off on March 12th - would any one else like to get their car repainted. He quoted me $1600 for the entire exterior. This is a guy that works at Lexus body shop - so you'll be getting top notch quality.

I just hope it won't rain.

Lets just say I was cheated and had to learn the hard way . an expensive way to learn, so now I need to have it done right. You'll see what I'm talking about at the meet.

If anyone wants to meet up with me, I'll be able to meet up at Freebirds (off of Oakmont by the Hulen Mall), most of you guys know where its at. From there I'm taking 20/360/183/161/635/75 or just take 20 all the way out to the outside of Dallas and run up 635. Both routes list close to the same as far as the "in traffic" listing. The first seems like alot to remember, so Im tempted to take the one that involves no toll roads and is just two highways. I'll send a txt out to you guys tomorrow as well as a early evening PM as a reminder.
Checked weather forecast again, 62...mostly cloudy. So get you Celica looking good....not a requirement though. But lets all try to get there!
Cant Wait!!

Yeah I forgot to post what time I'll be up there. I will be at Freebirds at 900. Hopefully arriving in Murphy around 11. If traffic is great maybe earlier.

UGH. That's all I have to say about what is going on.
I just got assigned two papers on due wednesday and one monday. AND I have a lab midterm on wednesday...I was planning on coming when it was just that but now that I have that and two papers...it's not gunna happen. mainly because I have the two papers and a final.

UGH not happy.
p.s.-both these papers were assigned today. bleh.
I am not happy. yes i know i am lame and sketchy for backing out at the absolute last second...i swear to god if this happens in the summer it's on like donkey kong.
apparently professors like to pile on the work right before spring break. i dunno. soooo dumb. not happy at all. ugh
anyway sorry again. sounds like this will be an excellent meet. take lots of pictures!
and please keep me updated on future ones...i really do want to go but gotta take school over celica.
have fun guys

Well, that just sucks! I understand the whole school thing though. And yeah there will be a meet sometime in the summer, probably a cruise (I can hope). But if by some odd chance you happen to make it out, do it!
I sent reminders to everyone else (cept 2B..cause its at his place), so let try for a decent turnout.

Had a great time, thanks for having us, and for the food. Can't wait for more of a showing, but either way its obvious that only a few of us draws attention. I didnt want to stop cruising, since it turned out to be so nice. Saw some great looking & sounding celi's today, cant leave out the g35 though, it looked fresh too. woot.gif

I guarantee your neighbors are having a conversation about how horrible their dog's gas smells. Hahahaha

Alright, finally got these things loaded. 92 pics were taken from my end, and I uploaded 23.
First, I had a really good time at this meet. The food was great and the company even better. Thanks to those who did show (I know that some had other more pressing issues). It was good to meet new members, and older ones I haven't met yet. Props to 2BCelica who provided a place to host this. Thanks to Hazmat for driving out with me, even though traffic did suck on the way out (we did see that sweet Lude..and the Lotus as well). TinoCel, thanks for making our cars look like they really needed to be cleaned better laugh.gif. CandyRed, even though you dont have a Celica anymore, I still like your car.
Hopefully in the coming months we'll be able to get another meet going. I was thinking sometime in early June. As far as what to do Im always open for suggestions. I really want to do the turbine run, but not in the middle of summer, that'll be something for a fall meet (possibly). But that's a topic for another time.
Anyhow, on with the pics.
Hazmats Celica------>

2BCelicas Beams Swapped Celica----->

TinoCels Celica, which is by the way the cleanest white Celica I have ever seen------>

My Celica (Spider77) with the fresh dent from kids------->

Group Shots, because thats what it all really about!------>

Again, thanks for everyone who participated. For the no shows, you sure missed out! But it dosent have to be that way, make it out to the next one, meet these members, I assure they are all great guys. The more that show and get active the better the meets will be, we have a decent amount of people on here from the DFW, so it shouldn't be just a few of us getting together.

OK.
So considering that the last meet we had, resulted in one of the best meets we've had in a while, lets keep the momentum rolling!

Now, Im planning the next meet to be sometime in early June. As we all know here in TX it gets hot during the summer. Im going to go scout some locations in Arlington this coming weekend. I know the last meet we had in Arlington was up at Bowman Springs/"The Parks" (BoneDaddys). Being that its going to be in the summer, Im going to look for a nice shady place with some cover.
I will post back what I find as far as locations and how we can work them out. If you guys want to meet at a park, then grill or something, let me know. Or if youd rather meet then go cruise, let me know. Again, I am just putting it together, but I really appreciate input from everyone. The reason why I am running with Arlington again is that its a central location for all of us. I really want to get a larger turnout this time (although last time was a nice size as well).
To those who missed the last meet. I understand that driving distance can be a pain, but with the summer location you shouldn't be too far away, so come on out. Meet some new people!
One more thing before I post this, I know that sometimes some parks require a deposit to reserve a spot. I have no objection to paying the deposit, as long as people show up. So if it is at a park (w/deposit) ,and you have no intention of even trying to make a meet, please don't post.
Till next weekend, I'll have some pics and a scouting report.

You know I'm always up for whatever. I think a nice shady park area would be perfect because like you said, summer time it gets incredibly hot and the sun will take its toll for sure. Grilling again would be a nice idea seeing as it worked out pretty well last meet (thanks again to 2bcelica wink.gif ). As far as spots go, I'll go ahead and wait to see what you find seeing as I'm nowhere near familiar with the arlington area. Will be keeping my eye on what you find out for sure thumbsup.gif

No idea about $5 per car seeing as I've never been but you did remind me of Burger's Lake. I believe they have admission prices though of like $10 kindasad.gif

Alright, checked out two places today.
First was Bob McFarland park (410 Embercrest Drive). It has a pavilion with two tables and a grill. And on the outlying area there are more benches and grills. What I like most about this park is the location of the parking lot, its about 20-30 feet from the pavilion. Not a huge space overall, but should fit all of us nicely.

Second was Gene Schrickel, Jr Park (4500 Park Springs Boulevard). It was alot more open then the first one, a larger lot that is a bit further from the pavilion, but felt more updated. Again, had more benches and grills in the outlying area. The best thing about this one is the location to 20. Its right off of it.

Both spots offer plenty of shade from the June heat, and should provide enough space for all of us. As it stands now there are now reservations being taken, its on first come first serve. But I can guess that during the summer (ish) it'll have to be reserved. So, get back with me on what you guys want to do. Or if you want to throw in ideas about where to have our next meet at. Please keep in mind Im trying to keep it somewhere close to Arlington (as its pretty much in the middle). Or if you guys want to do a meet and then cruise somewhere, that'll be good too. Just let me know soon.

So Im home (on my day off) and sick. Yea me! So after my nap here, I'll be sending out PM's to all the people who made it such a fun meet last time, and to the ones that couldnt show and try to get a def location nailed down, along with date/time. One more thing that I want to add here, The first park (Bob Mcfarland) is at a dead end, in a residential area, whereas the other park (Gene Schrickel, Jr) is off of the highway. Either way....for me to reserve this (I'll probably do 1/2 day) its $35. So without further delay here goes the list! For now......
