hey guys and girls im thinking about picking up a celica but stuck between a couple things. Between the 5th gen and 6th gen which is lighter? i love the looks of both so im going off weight. Im also interested in doing a swap im probally gonna have 3-4 grand depending on the celica i buy for the swap. Probally going to see the doc to do it but dont know between 3sge beams and 3sgte or just turboing the stock motor. looking for somewhere around 300whp reliable and most likely end up spending more haha but all help is appreciated thanks!!

But performance wise what would be the best choice between both chassis and engine wise?

I like the looks of the 6th gen a lot better, but if I were you, save that cash, look around and if you're doing a swap anyways.... why not start out with a 5th gen alltrac. Take the time to find one and then just do upgrades from there, just my opinion. Plus having awd definitely is a plus.

Comparable models of the fifth-gen weigh about 250 lbs more than the sixth-gen; however, those pounds seem to have come at the expense of crash worthiness.
Your best platform for a performance vehicle will be an ST coupe. By virtue of it being a coupe the body is significantly stiffer than the liftbacks or convertibles and these are the lightest versions of the Celica. Of course, that makes the 3SGTE swap that much more difficult as the engine bay is set up for an A-series engine. |

i've owned both. the 5th gen is definitely heavier and feels more solid than the 6th gen. the HVAC fan is louder in the 5th. shifting in the 6gc is 3x shorter but the 5th gen is better for downshifting. the 6gc has a much better interior design (and placement of the stereo and interior controls), but the 5th gen has better cup holders
