sound proofing car?, wanna get rid of the rattle Options

so i just got some nice alpine type s speakers and i really want them to sound as good as they can, so i decided i may soundproof my car or at least try to reduce my rattle, does anyone know if that great stuff foam will work for this? and please dont smack me for this, just an idea

Dynamat is your best bet but not the cheapest... My buddy stripped his 240 and his speakers were mounted to bare sheet metal. We ended up ashfaulting it. Added alittle insulation, messy to work with and smells bad for a bit but haha its poor mans dynamat

it works and it doesn't....i sound proof my whole car it is doesn't seem to work too well. i still get rattles and noises. you just need to find out where it is coming from....if it is the doors, you might need to adjust your door height to close better, adjust the windows and tighten the bolts and screws...heck, try getting some weatherstrips to replace the old one so when driving, the wind doesn't get in and cause more vibration

use this. frost king insulation

its like a sticker on one side, and foil on the other.

regular insulation isn;t the best idea.. you could get fiberglass spores or whatever all in your cabin...

and if you spill liquid it'll soak it right up and potentially get moldy

this just has a foil backing so no worry about either of those ^

I don't think our cars will EVER be *too* quiet; it's just a matter of making them less noisy! Especially if you've got 17" wheels and no exhaust resonator

Absolutely true! Sound dampening material is just part of the whole deal; it's best to start with that first to reduce the road noise, and then isolate the rattles and vibrations. What I have posted above is literally just the first stage of laying down the sound deadening on the floorboards and rear wheel wells (94 ST came with virtually NONE to begin with). After I laid down the stuff you see in the photos, I laid Ensolite down over top of it, which is an ultra-light density closed cell PVC foam mat material. NASA ftw I just didn't take pictures with the ensolite layed down, I'd planned to when I do the doors and hatch floor.

The package that arrived to me weighed 40lbs - that includes the material that will go on the doors on in the hatch floor. Packaging itself was maybe a pound if that, so call it 39#. My car is never gonna be a time attack machine so the extra weight is negligible to me. I can probably cut that in half by pulling out the spare tire in the rear - since I've got 17" wheels, it's not like I'll ever use the spare anyway

Most of my rattles were coming from the blown struts on my car. The rears were really bad. Now that those are replaced I'm hearing the front halfshafts and bearings. I plan on soundproofing after I stop hearing things that need to be fixed. Road noise on the highway can get pretty bad sometimes.

And I'm not sure if this has to do with the low mileage or the fact that it's a facelift model (and therefore, has more sound deadening), but my car is perfectly fine. I hear barely any rattles, really only when I go over bumps, along with some creaking. But when I'm driving, I hear no rattles. I have the music on (and pretty loud at that) 99% of the time, so really, I have no issues to complain about. There is a fair bit of road noise, partially because my tires are unevenly worn. However, I like the road noise (of the Celica, not the added noise of the tires); it lets me know what's going on and helps to keep the car from feeling numb. All in all, I wouldn't change a thing. Honestly. When I drive my dad's Audi A4, I feel like the car is disconnected from the road, just because it's so quiet and there's less feedback from the wheel.

I've planned on sound proofing my car since it's so freakin' noisy. It's like made of paper-thin metal, lol. It has no insulation whatsoever. You have the carpet and then bare metal. But I don't want to add additional weight. The 3S-GTE will make it heavier, and I'm trying to stay under 2,800 lb. with spare, all liquids and fuel topped off and sound system...and me on it. Just for mental peace purposes.

Yes, carpet padding helps and is a cheap alternative to sound deadening material. In fact, I've got a crapload of it if anyone wants it, just pay the shipping and you can have it.

I have! Haha I stuck a piece of pink insulation (like actual house insulation) behind the bezel and tightened it so the insulation wouldn't fall. Can't even be seen from the outside and no more rattles.

I coverd my doors in dynomat when I changed out my speakers. The differance in sound is unbeliveable, the bass is deeper and loader and no rattles. Eventually I will do pretty much the whole interior, I am going for the best sound not so much the fastest car.

Yeah, I highly recommend investing in some decent sound deadening. And for that matter, I cannot recommend raammat highly enough. Rick (the owner) is just an awesome guy, super friendly and REALLY knows his stuff, and his prices are VERY decent. In fact right now he's got a special (I think it's still up) on material you use for your floorboards, and if you buy the discounted floorboard material along with the other stuff you need to do your doors and trunk, wheel wells, etc, you can do your entire car for about $200. I haven't done mine yet, I don't seem to notice my rattling, but that could be because I haven't finished the rest of my car yet, and once IT'S quiet, I'll actually hear the license plate bezel lol If I have enough material left over after the doors and hatch, I'll probably do the midsection of the license plate panel and maybe some double stick foam around the edges.

Just a thought: I also put the little extra bits I had (yes, b/c I cut everything like the OCD freak I am) here behind the rear speakers. I had stock speakers all around and it sounded great inside.

Do you guys have a problem with sound??? I've stripped the factory sound proofing and stripped the underside of the carpet bare and when I have my beats playing all noises are drowned out anyways.

Never really had major issues. I only Dynamatted the trunk and rear seats. It made the stock system/bass sound nice. You can only crank it up so far on a stock system...you can't go all the way to 11!

I love my kappas. Its all in the deck, amp, and tuning.

I love them too, but I insist they don't sound as good as they should in the car. I have an old-ass Blaupunkt San Francisco CD70. It's a jewel of a deck in sound quality. For amp, I have a Signat ROM 4. It's an audiophile (gosh, I HATE that word) -grade amp. I tested Eminence 8" mid-bass speakers and they sound wonderful, especially for not being car speakers. I guess my Kappas don't like the Celica.

Well, you kinda have no clue until you have sound proofed your car. I did my trunk and will continue on the rest of the car as the cash flow runs. Atm i'm still struggling with my hatchback. to much rattling when i crank up the base.

12" Dynabel with 2500Watts of power up its arse makes alot of noise and the low tunes really shake the whole trunk to pieces. Sound proofing also help for the road noise, which is nice if driving on the freeway ect.

Go to home depot and buy roof and gutter repair tape. Its the same as dynamat but 20x cheaper. Its a little thinner, but for the price you can put as many layers as u want.

Must be doing something wrong. I got plenty of mid bass with my 60.7's. Tune your speakers.
