Okay so some of you guys know that last year I ended up selling my celica last year, due to money issues, and it not satisfying winter needs. So after selling it, it hit me hard after browsing through my photo bucket album and seeing my celica. Oh how I miss her. Well I ended up picking up a st165 rolling chassis. This thing was hacked up like there was no tomorrow. So $8,000 later the car is powered by a 5sgte motor and this weekend the brains will be swapped out for a honda unit. Well can I say I barely got to enjoy the AWD in the minnesota snow. I love the look for the st165 and everything, but I just miss the 6th gen. The curves. The gt-four front look, and the attention I get.
So heres my Dilemma. I can pick up a welder that will get a bunch of projects done. Some of you guys might not know that my girl friend who I love so dearly also drives a 6th gen ST. Her ST basically is the lowest grade celica you can get. MANUAL everything. What does that mean??? Its uber light to begin with. We plan on picking up a Subie for her this summer, so should I convert it to AWD with the st165 I have? I know I will be getting a lot of flack for hacking up a ST165. But my dream is to own an st205. I'm so close, but I just have to build it. What do you guys think? its either put in the FIA spec roll cage in the st165 and rally it, or turn Sammies celica into a gt-four street king. -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

dont destroy the ST165, I love those cars, rare and light, buy the parts needed and build a ST205 if you want, but don't destroy the ST165

DEFINITIVELY do not destroy the ST165. If you want to convert the 6GC into an ST205 just buy all the parts needed. I have everything in my shop to convert a USDM 6GC into an "ST205" times 3. I have 3 sets or ST205 AWD rears, 6 AWD transmissions, 4 sets of ST205 brakes, and several ST205 motors. All the parts that you would just rip off off your ST165 anyways, and the rest will need to be custom made no matter what route you go. Again, don't destroy the ST165.

You know what? I totally did not expect to have you 6th gen owners tell me to keep the st165. I believe you guys have just solidified the reason to keep the st165. So Jim, how much would you sell the st205 front and rear calipers with rotors?

Hack up the ST165.
C-C-C-C-C-C-ombo breaker! But really, don't hack up the ST165...it might cost you more in the end, but if you can source all the parts from Jim then you'll have yourself an ST165 AND ST205. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Well I'm hoping to have enough money after building the cage to do the st205 brake conversion on the 165. Thats just means I need to source some 16" rims.

I'd save the ST165. Keep it as a DD or a rally car, or sell it to fund the ST205 conversion. I've been thinking of getting an old ST165 myself, makes a good DD and fun car all at the same time.

Yeah I would keep the ST165, fix it up and go hardcore in it! Let's face it, it is a nice car, but compared to a 6th gen? After all the money, you might be too afraid to go hard in the 6th gen (which in all honesty, who would blame you? That's what I will face once I sell one of these dang MR2s, lol). With the ST165, parts will still be hard to come by, but more common vs 6th gen. PLUS! You don't have to worry about banging it up, as there isn't much exterior wise you could get for it anyways. If I could get one, I would, and take it to some canyon roads, the snow, and go all out in it like I was next in line to be the Stig!
