this will be the thread that il post the progress of my 96' celica as it comes along.

here is some pics of the car as it was in march-2010

when i got the car, the dash lights were burnt out, soo i fixed it.

then i went to cleaning the inside. (previous owner left it horrific..)

while i was doing that, i decided to de-badge the rear
right after i took them off (un-cleaned)

and after i cleaned it up

i think this would be a nice spot for the now "homeless" badges
(please excuse the dirty carpet in the trunk, when i vacuumed, it wasn't in the car)

Reminds me a lot of my car when I first got it. Taking off my rear badges was the first thing I did, too.

Looks very nice and clean, and I love the color. Good luck!

here is when it was first taken off

You're about 6 hours away from me. There are a few members up north near you. We're actually having a Celica meet at Starved Rock in June. You should try to show up!

well, i began fixing my high beam today. (leaked) the bad thing about it was that the water had been in there for years. and all the insides of the light was stained from the rust. so i got some high temp silver paint to fix that, will post more pics of that tomorrow when its dry.

well, a month or so ago, i was planning on selling my Celica GT to get a 5-speed. but then decided to keep it and have a bit of fun.
I now have a semi stable job and can finally save money. my list of parts for the spring/summer (spring should be the body work, summer is the performance) is as follows:

1. Front Lip or Front Bumper I haven't decided, most likely the lip, since there would be less modifying it to make it fit. but then again, the bumper looks BA
2 Megan Coilovers either from here (if they're in stock) or from eBay
3. have my whole car resprayed (the same stock color since there is a rust issue and pealing clear coat)
4. either buy one of _Jim_'s 3SGTE engines, or just have my 5SFE rebuilt and turbo it.

My "right now" project is coming from Mike (mkernz22) from his parts car. I'll post pics of what I'm going to do.. when its done. biggrin.gif

Bro, question. How did you debadge the rear without scratching the paint? Also, what'd you use to clean afterwards? I've been wanting to do this for SO long but have been afraid of scratching.

i used my credit card when the sun was hitting it. (heat gun would work too) and to get the junk off the paint, i used wet paper towels and a lot of elbow-grease. im sure there is an easier way than that..

Interesting, I'll try that tomorrow. And I'd love to use Goo Gone but I have no idea if that'll eat paint.

come to think of it, i think i used bug and tar remover. but it still took a long time and i ended up getting blisters, but it was worth it. iv never used goo gone on paint before, i wouldn't think it was do harm. but I'm not sure.

When I did mine, it didnt scratch the paint the basically popped right off. Its the adhesive stuff behind that is hard to get off!
But i imagine with some sort of tar remover stuff it would be pretty easy. I just sanded the stuff, because i was painting my car anyhow, and it actually didnt leave too much scratching and i was forcefully sanding lol

i used silicon gel, and cut little circles out of a piece of plastic, painted them black, then stuck them on the silicon. it seems to work nicely. atleast till i can plug them permanently.

So I went to urban tanks today which is a car audio shop where I live, and I had the guy look at my subs. Within 20 seconds he had them pounding. So I was like wtf did you do?? cwm13.gif he said he just reversed the polarity on one of my subs. (I, like a moron, hooked up the wires backwards when i put them in the celica frown.gif ) so we were talking about "how to make the most of what you have" and he showed me different kinds of boxes, and was explaining how vented boxes can make you subs that much better. so i asked how much it would be for one, and he said 100. so i said i want it. he installs the subs in it and puts it in the car, i turn it on and WOW! it was a significant difference! biggrin.gif all that with a 760 watt amp pushing 2 12 inch subs!
old box. my cat is huge. biggrin.gif

new box, and my tools sitting in the bottom right. thats right, some people ony carry a few. I CARRY THEM ALL! lol

You watch Ebay close enough and you can always get a good deal. Earlier this year, I let a set go for around $120 shipped. Can't wait to see them on the car! They're very subtle on this color, but make the rear end look perfect.

I added fogs to her today. when I bought the car last march, the girl i bought it from said that the week before, the passenger side fog fell out somewhere and got lost. and the drivers side one had a hole in the glass on the bottom, so i took it off. last night after the midwest meet, i went to walmart and picked up some cheap fogs. they dont look bad. i had to mess around with the wiring to connect them to the stock wires, but all is good.
i was originaly going to use the wires that came with the fogs, but look at the positive wire... about 7 feet too short?

these are the fogs

my one and only oem broken fog

i cut he plug off of the oem fog, and put it on the new fog wires. (it has heat shrink tubing covering it now)

for the other side, i just cut the plug off from the car and hooked the wires together. so the driver side is removable, but the passenger side isn't.

today i installed a switch to cut the signal going to my subs. so now when i am getting close to my house i can stop them. (shady kids down the street. i dont want to come out of my house one morning to see my windows smashed and subs gone.. frickin teenagers kindasad.gif ) laugh.gif

this is not done yet, but it is functional, i soldered the wires in the back of it. the ill fitting piece of plastic is just there till spring where i will be able to do this job properly along with the rest of the center dash. (gps mount)

Do the autos have the "change holder" thing between the shifter and the center console? I used basically the same switch for the same purpose, but mounted mine on the change thing (super easy) and it'll clean up the look a little

the change holder is halfway in the center console. under the lid, but not quite in it.

'98-'99 steering wheel for $350? Er.... You can get a very nice leather wrapped steering wheel from a newer Celica or Rav4 for that. And even then, you're still overpaying. I'd advise you to keep searching if you want a better steering wheel. You can get one for much cheaper.

but isn't the 98-99 a direct bolt on and plug in? (for cruise and airbag) I'm paying more for the convenience factor. kindasad.gif

that's bullsh!t just for a steering wheel, seriously. I paid about $105 shipped for my non-airbag JDM 3 spoke steering wheel which came from Cyprus.
you could use most of that money towards something else.

and btw, the steering wheel i got was newly wrapped with leather.

sure without airbag. that is something that i would feel better having with my driving style. i know its a bit much for it. but i dont see oem 98'-99' that look this nice too often. so i think paying a little extra isn't much of a big deal. kindasad.gif

I found one for $90 on Ebay. Who needs cruise control and airbags when you have a sweet looking JDM steering wheel? It's JDM, you know.

screw airbags! haha they just mess up your windshield when you get into an accident
as for the cruise control, i took my switch apart, learned what connections went where and how they worked, and wired up my own set of buttons on the dash plastic smile.gif

again, I would like to stay as OEM looking as possible which is why im sticking with the 99' wheel over the JDM one, and having a broken windshield is a small price to pay for saving my life. I know the pros and cons people bring up about them, but then I look at my dads accident 6ish years back, and he wouldn't have lived without it. (no fault of his own, dump truck ran a red and plowed into him)

EDIT: I would also like to add that I have no problem with the look of them, nor do I not want you to get them for your cars. Its just not "me" in my opinion. ^not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. tongue.gif

I can understand your concern about that, but there are JDM steering wheels with airbags that are cheaper, JDM is still OEM. it might not be to us in the US, but it is to everyone over there haha
hell, you could find a 7th gen, rav4, mr2, etc wheel that will go right on. if you get a 7th gen wheel with the clock spring there shouldnt be any mods to do on it.

IMO $350 for a steering wheel is not worth it, I would just stick to the one I had.

If you really think about it, is it really worth $350 just for a steering wheel that has one less spoke and looks a little better?

ok, screw my list on page one.. here is a new rout to go with my car that I want to follow.

-first, install all the stuff I already bought (GT-4 bumper, hood struts, GT-4 rear strut bar, etc)
------stuff to buy--------
-3-post steering wheel
-GT-4 hood
-DCW duckbill spoiler (molded on, also have my stock side skirts molded as well)
-DCW SSIII rear splitters
-DCW gauge pods
-volt, oil pressure, oil temp gauges
-new speakers all around
-Megan Coilovers
-Vincent's seat covers
-Vincent's leather arm rest cover
-Vincent's door card insert thing
-change all lighting in the car to blue (gauge cluster, dash)
-new carpeting (mine is worn out and has holes in it..)
-PAINT after I get the hood and have the engine work done. (don't want to run the risk of it getting scratched while the swap takes place)

-----ENGINE/TRANS-----
This is where it gets good. I am going to have a 1MZFE or a 3MZFE v6 engine and the E-153 5-speed trans swapped into my celica, after having the engine rebuilt of course, replacing all the gaskets and seals, putting forged internals in(pistons and connecting rods), maybe have the head ported. then add in about a 100 shot of nitrous for when I take it to the track, I would turbo it, and I may down the road, but for now id like to be able to keep somewhat decent gas mileage, and a little traction. (since its front wheel drive and I live in snow.. and don't fear the nitrous! having your engine properly tuned will make it 100% safe. reading some of the other forums makes it sound like a taboo or something... "NITROUS IS BAD! BOOSTING THE $#@* OUT OF YOUR ENGINE IS GOOD!" wink.gif ) luckily I live at least in the same state as the shop that did snapshotgt's V6 swap, so id probably use them, since they seem to know what they were doing.

If I have any luck, the company that I have been working for as a temp for the last 9 months will hire me. if they do, I will then get a rather large pay increase (go from 8.50/hr to 14-20/hr), and be able to work overtime (time and a half). so i would be making at minimum $800 dollars a week of spending money. (after taxes and gas) so everything on this list, if I get this job, will be DONE by early to mid summer of 2011. biggrin.gif

I put blue LED's in

I bought mime from here and these are the ones I bought. I'm very happy with them, when I installed them, I had to pull the little pick-up wires going into the plug (green thing that holds the bulbs... this thing) out just a little bit to have a better contact.

I got my green ones from there and they worked amazingly! They're soo bright!
Only thing was I thought one of them didn't work because I installed it reversed so the polarity wasn't right on it  lol
But they're all good now!

Looks great in your car and I can't wait to see your progress!

For the LED's yes, because they will only turn on with the polarity going in a certain direction.

my part buying will be on hold for a few weeks. (saving money to make sure i can pay my car insurance in may)
parts that are coming next should be a GT-4 hood, and coilovers. biggrin.gif (not to mention fixing my rear brakes kindasad.gif )

What's wrong with them?

my brakes? the driver side, the caliper is completely seized, and the passenger side one is starting to stick. both rotors are completely shot, as are the pads, and I believe my parking brake pads are shot. (I hope thats all it is) the parking brake would hold less and less, and now it acts like its not even pulled up. I adjusted it, hoping that was what was wrong with it, but no luck. last summer I replaced everything in the front, now its time to do the rears, its embarrassing pulling up to the bank or a stop light and having your brakes go RAWOOOORRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAWWWOOOOEEEEE frown.gif
