Sounds like your compressor could be out if you're not feeling it kick on and suck the life from your engine.
Edit: check your a/c relay, I believe it's in the small relay box located at the front of the engine bay, just near the passenger headlight and alternator. This post has been edited by GriffGirl: Apr 8, 2010 - 5:24 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Also low Freon will cause the compressor to shut down. There's a pressure switch that will keep it from kicking in with low gas pressure. Easy check.

pick up an AC recharge kit and fill up the system.

Compressor, AC Clutch, Low Freon, condensor, evaporator, leak in the hoses. Next to your driver headlight theres a small lense you could look through if it bubbles theres low freon that could been caused by a leak. if its pretty steady your freon level is low.

thanks guy, i am gonna check it when the weather is bettter, i think freon might be low... saw like blue smoke blowing out of my air vent during last summer lol hmm according to the gauge on the refill kit, the freon level is good... the smaller line running along the bigger line for the a/c seem to be cool, not chilly but cool, yet the ac is not cold. the bigger line runs warm/hot. do you guys think it's the fuse? I took it out but it didn't seem like it was burnt or anything? |

As far as fuses go, dont just do a visual check (it may be broke, but not where you can see it) do a real check on those. It could also be a relay. But Im guessing that if one line is "chilly" and the other is warm/hot, then your compressor might be on its last legs. I had this same problem last year...well sort of. My compressor worked, just not at peak performance. And it is on its way to a slow painful death. I got an evac/recharge which got it through the summer, but was told the obvious by the technician. It might be a good chance that its just shot. Or the switch isnt on. But if your like me and running a 16 year old compressor, its seen better days to be sure.

a/c ON max, windows down, engine runing.
look at center of your a/c compressor, should be spinning. if not check ac pressure. if less than 50 psi, add a can of freon if more than 50 psi, you have an electrical issue. if it is spinning. pressure should be between 35-50 psi if over...vent the high side till it reads 45 psi if under add untill you reach 45 psi if all this checks out, yet you still have no cold air... you have serious issues somewhere This post has been edited by stephen_lee: Aug 19, 2010 - 11:18 PM -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated.
