2010 Florida Summer meet Options

Well, it seems Ferdi may not be able to make it to this meet, so I'll try to take over from here, still pending if i can make it myself. Ill try hard to be there but in the event i cant, Yarik and Axel will have to take charge here.

DATE:

First off, im gonna propose a date change, from SAT, JUL 3 to SAT, JUL 10

- due to the holiday weekend. I foresee the area being overcrowded on the 3rd, which may lead to us not getting parks together, not getting a place to grill/sit/eat, not to mention extreme traffic and higher risks being on the highways with everyone booze-ing themselves up, safety is a priority to me, i want to see your celicas in one piece.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CHANGE PLEASE POST! otherwise i wont know who can make it and who cant.


LOCATION:

Fort Desoto Park is still the place! <-------- Click the link for google maps, and to get directions, etc!

The only change to the location, is that im going to be more specific and say that we will meet at the NORTH BEACH PORTION <---- a link to PDF file which breaks down the different parts of ft desoto park, North beach is in the NW corner-ish.

-Swimming attire if you want... it is a beach.

BTW I know exactly where the second location is. Every time we go down to Tampa, we stay at the Sailport Resort.

yeah man its really nice out there on the side of that bridge, i like it a lot. I haven't been to the first location personally but it looks OK on the map...... i'm kinda leaning towards the 2nd.

BTW would you guys mind putting your real name so we have an idea what to call you?

Ft. Desoto is much better for the choice. They have grills and cover so we can do a BBQ. The causeway is just a dirt cliff by the water, so not so much fun.


I am gone all of June, July 17-18 and then guaranteed in Nov (which is past the time anyway)

sweet, its good to have feedback on that. Do you know if it is free entry? Pay per car? etc? The location is not tied down to these two, any places that can be suggested is welcomed.

Like Samir said, any suggestions are welcomed.

The only thing that deters me from DeSoto is that it's nowhere...might be a problem for some members to drive out there. There are better facilities though, grills like you said, and trees. The problem with that bridge location is that it's picturesque, but just a bunch of tarmac. We'd be baking in the sun.

Sorry I have been out of the loop last 2 weeks. Family came over and I had to entertain them driving all 5 of us in my little celica all over the state.

I would like to say yes to attending a car meet. I am also depressed right now. One of my cats ran away and I have been chasing it around my community for 4 days now so cant think straight. Also shopping for a new car while running up a tally of how much engine mount repair+paint+rims will cost. Once I get that figured out I will at least be photo worthy.

Sorry to hear that buddy. I know how you feel, I was missing mine for a week when he ran away, he finally came back after the neighbors saw him and lured him into the house with some tilapia. He's actually been throwing up for the last three days and he seems to be losing weight, so I'm not feeling that great about him either. It worries me, I've had him for 9 years now. If you need me to call to talk, let me know.

About $400 gets me there round trip, and I think it's something I can probably swing with enough time to budget for it. Naturally I won't be coming with my Celica though although I sure would love to, that would be KILLER! Then I could hit those last few states I haven't been to yet! Those of you who will be traveling past my house in zip code 33547 on the way back have an option of picking up my steelies free of charge as long as you take them. Also there is a shogun spoiler from erebuni (not painted) also free of charge as long as you take it.

On another more serious note. This meet can not happen without people attending. If you can not attend please tell us ahead of time. As far as I am concerned.. if I stop meeting other celica guys and gals.. then there is no sense of me owning a celica especially since I do have a 2 year old 4x4 tacoma to keep me equally happy. Please lets make this happen so I dont have to resort to putting up my car on ebay when summer is over.

I went to the last meet, cool bunch of guys- good burgers too, you guys know i am in, email me with the final details- i am too damn busy to check this since i have 2 jobs- , make this on a saturday please and i will have an extra 3 maybe 5 6gens coming out of tampa. sand key is beautiful it has metered parking and you cant bbq on the beach but there are covered picnic areas with tables and its like a 2 min walk to the beach- good choice- ft desoto is cool but honestly they have a lot of damn ( no-see-ums) that bite the hell outta ya- so idk, u all know apopka was farrrr for me, but i know it was farther for a few more. anyways email me at toyotastyles@yahoo.com and send me ur number - ttyl cant wait to see ur celi's again...

Hey guys. Sorry to say that I won't be adding my name to the attendee list. I've decided to go to Europe to work for a few months instead, so I most likely won't be here on the meet date as my plan is to book a flight within the next few weeks. However, I'd still like to do a winter meet because if this meet can be successful, so can one a few months down the road.

My only stipulation is that I've had to make a couple repairs to my car and I'm not sure if I'm going to have the money.

If my new sales job at Fucillo Hyundai pans out (I'm sure you guys are familiar with him, he's pretty big) then I'll be there, but if not, I likely won't be.

im not familiar either. the link for the walmart location is above there. we can get all our foodstuffs etc and caravan down.

Here is the problem with meeting at walmart or any place for that matter.

Im going to draw on example of our past meet. I was supposed to meet ferdi and samir behind Denny's... I missed the sign and never saw it so kept driving and ferdi was running late.. in the end samir caught up with me and ferdi came in late to the meeting spot.

Problem is that everyone gets to places at different times. Up north we used to meet up along the rest stops on i-95. They were 30 miles apart and we would set a time frame.. like 10-10:15 and if peeps dont catch up then next meeting place was lets say 12-12:15 etc.

For what it's worth, I think it worked very well to wait at the meet location and then caravan to the store (mostly because I got a ride in two 3S swapped Celicas!).

well. im not sure if we have to pay a fee first of all, dont want to encounter it 2x. BUT if you all want, we dont have to meet at walmart. just bring whatever you are bringing when you are coming. if we need to make a list about who is bringing what so there is no confusion (i.e. 2 sets of buns and no burger meat) we'll do so here.

Just finished my move to Tampa two days ago. 16 hours drive straight down here from Ohio. Uggg I was wiped out!
Good news is that I'm definitely in. Bad news is that the painting deal in Ohio went really sour and my Celica is only in grey primer now.
