the celica was full coverage. unfortunatly the blue book value on the MR2 is under the full coverage price, so i have to settle for semi-coverage. but since its garaged winters im saving quite a bit of money.

Insurance is the biggest scam. You pay them everymonth and nothing happens. Yet when something does happen, and you need their help they try to screw you over and get out the cheapest way they can.

Only have full coverage b/c I'm required to have it as long as I'm paying the car off from the bank.

$230/month for insurance under my parents policy with the car in my name. Full Coverage, $500 deductable, Uninsured Motorist (thank god I had it when I got hit)...

insurance and me dont see eye to eye... I got this BS ticket when I was 16 and didnt think to contest it and I ended up having to go to some stupid driver improvement class so I wouldn't lose my DL.. newayz that put me on probation in which If I get a ticket within a year I lose my DL. that was 6 years ago and I finally just got off probation - every time I would get close to gettin off I would get another ticket lose my DL and have to start over.

Because of this I have to have sr22 insurance.... ouch!

at one time I was paying 390 a month for a liablity on a 89 honda prelude.

right now I pay 180 a month for storage on my celica and liablity on my blazer

but full coverage on my celica is usally 280 a month mad.gif

its worth the peace of mind to pay but god does it suck

Well, it sounds like we run the full range of prices. I have full coverage and it costs me $2400 a year. I'm seriously considering dropping it in favor of liability and buying a good alarm with an ignition kill instead.

For my feelings on insurance click here:

INSURANCE IS GAY.com thumbsdown.gif

AUS you pay £2000 just to let the USA lads now thats nearly $4000! mad.gif
Also over in UK you cant have more then 3 mods or you have to do specialist insurer, which then does cost loads. I once said I wanted a quote for putting on 17" alloy, alloy costed me £530, insurance same price.

My dad suddenly died when I was 18 and I had to have my own policy on a nissan primera which costed £2,400 and its a group 9. Second year £1,100. Now i'm 20 soon 21 (december 3) and I can get insurance on a celica GT.

But they have quoted me £850 for a 95year 6000miles a year GT! Is that right or have they gone wrong. My mate has a honda Prelude and hes 25 he pays £900 but hes had a write off. And my other mate is mad on cars and spent £15k on mods for a honda cilvic hes 20 and his insurance was £3k+!!!!!!! MAD MAD MAD

Dont you think when your driving your car everyone around you hasnt paid, maybe i'm just paranod. rolleyes.gif

only liability...not sure how much cause its under parents so i never see the bill...although i do agree that insurance is horrible. i liked the explanation Sped. i think another gay fact left out is that its against the law to be uninsured...you have to have that crap to drive a car...so getting done up the butt is the law.

Hmmm. well, i have to pay $2718/year which is 226/month. This is just liability. I just revently got in wreck and didn't report just bc insurance wouldn't do anything but raise my insurance more. I'm considered high risk and car is in my name.

I don't really have a problem with the law requiring liability insurance. I don't want to be screwed if some drunk hits me, and I dont think anybody would want to be. My problem is with the execution of the whole thing.....its just like Socialism. Great idea.....didn't ****in work. Give it up.

And I bet that 3rd party.
Is it you own policy?
Whos that with?

ITs stuiped when you add up the car depreation, insurance, petrol its costs something stupid like 30p+ a mile.
One of my mate who work for one of the insurance places say you could just startup your own business as a insurer, it would cost nothing and just put your own car on it. But nothings that simple I think there a legistation that checks you out before you can start a insurance business first.
cheers

I bet you haven't said you've got mods.
When that accident happened did either one contact the police or did she just pay up with out going though the insurance???

i woz with norwich union before, but when i got celica and tried to insure it they basically told me to fu*k off!

eerm.......lets just say that i forgot to mention a few things (like alloys, exhaust, suspension, ice and so on!!)

The accident was totally her fault - i mean there was nobody in my car so she didn't have much of a case! she was alright about it, and i got a courtesy car for about 2 weeks, and it didn't affect my mums no-claims in any way. We had to go through insurance cuz it wasn't her car - some loan thing from the NHS??

how much did they charge you 4 insurance??

thats all 3rd party, I dont think i'll ever get full it cost so much.
I have exhuast, tints, 17" alloys. It would cost me a extra £500 to just insure the alloys so I haven't bothered.

But whats the point of getting insurance if you invalidate it by getting mods? You may as well get more mods with the insurance money maybe the cops wont catch you then LOL!

Did you know that if your car is totaled the insurance company takes it, pays you the claim and sells the car to the scrap yard!! And scrap yards sell them to garages and they fix them and resell them!

I finally decided to give up my full coverage. Blue Book on the car is only $3k so thats what the insurance company would give me for it. Thats a bunch of crap, all this time I've been paying way more than I ever needed to. I could have built a second car already for that money. So I've got liability with Geico now. I'm paying $621 every 6mos now. Much more reasonable.

I've decided to get a good car alarm and perhaps a lojack. Does anybody have any experience with the lojack? Whats the best car alarm out there?

Yeah when you think about it the money you spend on insurance so your safe if police pull you other, you could spend that on modding your car so they cant catch you:)

What I cant quite seem to get a grasp of is the concept of chargin you guys more for you mods... Granted I can diffently understand that have mods done to your car would make some people drive recklessly.. but when you think of terms of suspension and performance... you are less likely to get into an accident in a vehicle that has really good response and control verses a car that you just point it in the direction you want to go and hope no one hits you wink.gif

Yah, I'm with neverstop. I guess it might make sense if they're actually insuring your car for more $$ in proportion to the mods, but damn. In the US you can claim mods and insure them for an additional value past the value of the car, but its pricey and you obviously have to already be paying out the ass for full coverage.

I pay 110 a month for full on my 1998 gt with rims insured as well. I'm 19, been in an at-fault accident, and a few tickets. Those should all be off my record now and the accident is too. The maximum I was paying was 160 a month on liability but that was because they didn't know one of my tickets was dropped.

tickets here I think are either a year and a half or 3 years, and accidents are 3-5 years... thats California.

And so you all know, here in the US in states that require insurance you can either have liability insurance or PROVE financial responsibility, meaning if you have like 100k in the bank then thats your insurance.

and also, im not sure exactly how much my policy is alone, but using Progressive.com full coverage for me every 6 months would be $2000... 4k a year. smile.gif
