A few minutes ago a light coat of basecoat was sprayed to make sure everything was straight. Tomorrow the entire car should be fully painted and clear coated. smile.gif The color looks weird but that's not exactly the same color. It's going to be lighter and with more metal. That's just a cheap basecoat to look things over. The paint itself is a custom color. Looks awesome in the sun.

I'm so happy that my car isn't black anymore and it's finally shaping up. biggrin.gif

Paint looks wierd cause its not atomized right. Its called Modeled paint . When cleared it will look stripey or blotchy or both. A) not a good paint gun . ways to over come it cross coat it make like x when you paint. Play with the air pressure HVLP gun needs to be set at 10psi- 20 psi no more then that sprayed approximately 6 in from pannel with a 80-90% overlap at a slow steady pace with long strokes

its blotchy/stripey because its one very light coat, which he says in the first post.

cant wait to see it finished oobe!

I am SO happy, man. Just came back from seeing the car. The color turned out beautiful. In shade, it looks a tame grayish blue but under sunlight...well...see for youself. biggrin.gif

The cellphone camera doesn't do the sparkle any justice. Plus, I didn't expect any color shifting based on angle, and it happened, so I'm twice as happy. tongue.gif

^ I never wanted to mention it but that's what I thought when I saw it without the bumper. tongue.gif But SHHH...don't say it too loud. tongue.gif But make it a Mustang look-alike? COME ON! He-he. Oh, I forgot to tell you guys that the fenders are going to be painted gloss black on the inside and and also the inside of the hood. The reason for that is that I don't want the blue to take away from the engine when the hood is open, so the black color will act as a background and the engine will stand out, since I won't have anything shiny or flashy. The engine is going to be very conservative. The intake manifold will be powder coated textured satin black. Just the intercooler pipes will be polished. smile.gif

Sweet, man. Make sure to post pics when done. biggrin.gif I originally wanted the Tacoma X-Runner (my mechanic owns an '08) 8P1 variation which is lighter and has more pearls than the regular Tacoma and the other 8P1 Toyotas, but I decided to fiddle with the color and lighten it more and add more pearl. A friend of mine has a paint store and is an authorized PPG dealer. On Wednesday I went to buy the paint and he kept tweaking it until I decided it was light enough. It changed way too much and I didn't expect it to look this good. It certainly isn't what I was looking for and I wanted it bluer, but this was a pleasant surprise and I really love it. It's unique

I told him to name it LM Speedway Blue. LM stands for Luis Miguel, his name, lol. tongue.gif

Can't you read before posting? rolleyes.gif Who cares how that first coat looks if it's going to be sanded? It was a test coat with a cheap base coat to look for imperfections. Read before getting finger-happy next time. But thanks for stating the obvious, Captain Obvious.

EDIT: Since we're on the subject:

I painted my scion rims all PPG Global Paint and clear Gold and black marble . As I am a ICAR platinum, ASE Master, PPG platinum certified Painter.

Gosh, you are overwhelmingly annoying. Stay out of my threads. How many times do you need to post that you're a highly decorated painting god? Nobody cares, guy. Do you want a cookie or perhaps a badge? Don't you get enough attention at home? Do you stare at a mirror every night and repeat that as a mantra? Are you waiting at every opportunity you get to post something about paint? Jeez. laugh.gif

Back on topic, I get the car back on Monday. After we install the engine and tranny next month (gotta save for some more parts), we'll proceed to wet sand and polish the clear. Then it'll look really good. smile.gif

I'm sorry, Manny, but I needed to get this off my chest. He really annoys me.

Great choice on color. There are not that many blue 6GCs, so you'll definitely stand out.

And Mr. Experience, I demand that you get a cell phone with a better camera!

Yeah. I'm not too loved around these parts, so I don't bother to post my photography because it wouldn't be acknowledged. Kids can't take the heat from me, lol. Well, technically, this camera is cheap. It's an old Fujifilm Finepix S2 Pro from 2001. Got it for $296 shipped. biggrin.gif It takes Nikon lenses.

But yeah, I need to buy me a point and shoot. I'm thinking a little Canon Powershot SD880. I just love Canon point and shoots. I'm a Nikon guy but Nikon point and shoots cannot compete with Canons. Even their Powershot A series are excellent.

Tomorrow I am getting my car back. Anybody knows where I can buy the socket for the wheel nuts? I lost the socket and I have two different sets of nuts in there. One socket won't work with the other style of nuts. frown.gif I need to pull off the wheels so I can get them painted. They're going to be matte black with a blue circle strip on the lip. biggrin.gif

But I'm not seeing any flaws except for that dumb overspray. Are you paying for the respray or is your painter taking blame?

LOL...right?

Nah, man, Luis just made the paint and sold it to me. tongue.gif The guy who painted it is a friend of Luis. He recommended him to me. That overspray was lousy attention to detail. Taping and papering is so easy. How can you screw it up, right? He's going to take care of it, though. I told him his shop is too dark and needs some good lamps. Awesome guy, though. He lends me his Isuzu truck or his '06 GSX-R 1000 when I need transportation. biggrin.gif

Ferdi, he's paying for the paint and materials.

AnaXyd, the hood has little dings that both didn't see. They fixed the big ones but those ones that I saw were invisible with the primer. After it got painted, they became visible, but they still didn't see them. I literally have OCD and take medications for it. I can see a ding or imperfection in the reflection of the paint from a mile away. kindasad.gif Also, the trunk lid has a lot of imperfections that weren't fixed. Front bumper paint is too thin and didn't stick too well. A little rock will take the paint off. He's coming to my house to repaint it and fix everything that I'm not happy with (the owner of the shop). The guy that did the bodywork is an older guy with mental problems but has a heart of gold. Bad thing is that he pays no attention to detail whatsoever. If it's something big, he'll fix it great, but little things just aren't his forte. Car looks fine from far away, but if you get close you can see those details, which aren't a big deal. Car looks beautiful, but I want it like OEM paint. I'm too picky, and I didn't pay $3000 to have imperfections that rob me from my happiness and give me stress. Those same wheels are getting repainted in matte black by the owner of the shop. biggrin.gif

i am having a hard time deciding but I've pretty much narrowed it down to the brand house of kolors "colbalt" or "blurple" "majestic" or even doing something outlandish like magenta this decision is super hard!!! what do you think?

Well, I think Celicas look good only in normal colors. Girly colors make the car look faggy. Magenta will look...yah...outlandish. tongue.gif I dunno. I think you should stick to a sports car color. And get a paint that is easily matched. Nothing worse than needing a repair on your car and the paint ends up not matching. smile.gif

The Cobalt color would look amazing on your car. biggrin.gif

Great color choice, love it! (I DO love shiny stuff! Oh, how I love shiny stuff... sigh.)

And yeah, go for the Canon point and shoot, they're definitely hands-down better than the Nikons. wink.gif

yea I keep going back to the colbalt color, it stands out yet its still a sporty color and not too wild. have you seen it? I made a post with a picture of a sample of it

Yah. I've actually seen it at a car show. Looks awesome in person. It's a very deep color. Nothing at all like an OEM color. You should pick that one for your Celi. smile.gif

Muchas gracias, Griffy! tongue.gif
