I was just skimming through YouTube one day and I came across this video for a drifting 240 and this protruding thingamabob caught my eye...
Then later that day I was out driving and saw an Integra with the same thing except sticking out the rear of the car, just below the rear bumper cover... Who know's what this thing is...? I have my assumptions, but I'd like to be sure: ![]() -------------------- |

Looks like a tow hook to me.
Never seen one popping out of the hood like that though (doesn't make sense imo). -------------------- |

My assumption was that its a release for the hood - or in the case of the integra; for the hatch...
I dunno though, can anyone verify? -------------------- |

6gc is like the sheltered child of the car community...
Yes they're tow hooks. People mount them to their strut towers because it is a strong mounting point to be towed from. Are the ones pictured for looks? Of course. Is the function there? Definitely. Now go back to your parents' basement 6gc and return to that sheltered life. ![]() -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

yeah tow hook/eye, not just cos the strut is a solid mount but because the ones fitted to the car from the factory often get covered by big body kits and having that "drift" type mounted low is dangerous as it sticks out far so is not pedestrian friendly or reverse friendly when parking, every car has a factory one or a screw in type, you can see my small factory one on the left under the rear bumper painted silver but my fronts are covered by the lower front of the TRD bumper so if i ever get towed i'll probably have to fix the bumper it will almost defo get cracked

functionality - its easier to slip a tow hook on that area and drag it out instead of grabbing a shovel and trying to dig a small hole to find a tow hook on the rear or front of the car.
ever been to the track or the canyons and get stuck in really really deep sand that swallows your car and wont let you move? would you rather dig and find a tow hook underneath the car or hook up to the top and drag it out and disappear before the cops show up. is it useful sure. is it needed not really. would you spend 120+ on one ... i would'nt. ...do these cars not have a tow loop solidly mounted to the frame from the factory? my 7th gen has 2 rear and one front. maybe I should paint them baboon ass red and call it a modification.

And you have many-no ... MANY! MOST useful facts!! AND always Appreciated. There is no way that i can deny this~ Infact, I DO encurage your knowledge!! Not being a smartass, no disrespect, no scarcasm... I really do support every single fact we can find. I just hate to hear badmouthing of something that is so beneficial to those involved with it. BENEFICIAL To the point that non mebers can see it. I have 2 friends (non 6gc owners) that want 6th gens just because of what i accomplish and they see me tag 6gc and receive those hard-fact reply's within minitues (like many of yours!). Or the fact that i have over 40 6gc phone numbers in my cell. Or because of how cheap we make it on each other. Or because of how common our knowledge is between multiple members when placed in the same room. (witch happens often here in Houston) ![]() We have a fantastic comunity. there are a couple reason why tuners add an extra large tow hook.
1) for the tow truck driver to easily see it. (fast in fast out) When the OEM ones they are always black and under the trim of the car. 2) the tow hook extends farther out then your regular tow hook so the tow strap/chain can be pulled from any angle without risk of destroying surrounding trim. If you hook up a tow chain to the OEM celica tow hook in the wrong angle it can damage the bumper (especially the front bumper.) 3) The reason its up on top of the hood is so it can be easily access while in a gravel trap especially so with body contact in motor sports. The chances of it being damage during a crash is lower on the hood. If you had it on the bumper like OEM ones, chance of it being bend out of shape is so much higher during a simple crash. 4) last reason why OEM tow hooks wont do ... watch this video tow hook win!
