Hey guys/girls, I have a problem. I have a 5 speed and whenever I do normal driving, the car runs excellent. But whenever I start from a stop and take the rpm over 5k and try to shift into 2nd gear it does not go into gear. Earlier today I was unable to get into 2nd, 4th, and reverse. Any advice?

It's possible that your clutch might not be engaging all the way which will cause an issue like this. One way to test is run it in gear on a perfectly flat surface with the clutch engaged... does it want to inch slowly forward? If so, there might be air in the lines or it may need a new master or slave cylinder. The fact that reverse is tough to get into makes it somewhat likely this may be the problem.
Good luck! |

UPDATE
I can not get into 2nd gear when trying to turn unless I am under 20 mph. Shifts normal with regular driving, but 2nd or 4th wont catch when getting on it. ![]() |

Ok so now I dont have 2nd and 4th gear and sometimes reverse works. I goes into gear whenever I am parked, but if the car is moving I cannot get it into those gears. I tried letting go of the clutch slowly when I tried to shift into 2nd and it made some sort of grinding sound. Any help guys? Im off to college next weekend and I want to get my car fixed

Check shifter cables first. Make sure the pin is on right and everything. Not pinched.
Stop hard-dogging it all around town. Then if either of those dont work, then you may have messed part of your shifter assy within the transmission. It's possible that you've ground the gears a bit doing that; and that ground bit is clogging up your movement. If that's the case you'll need a new one. Hope thats not it. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Damn D-Man - most impressive. funny isn't it? I find that most fuel pumps go out when the car isn't running as well. Dosen't make sense, but it happends.
You do know where and witch shifter cable you're looking for;' correct? -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! If you pop your hood. and you stand facing your winshield. Your engine is to the left and the tranny is to the right.
On the right (driver side) frame rail, locate your fuel filter. EDIT: Driverside if it's USDM ![]() Now the shifter cables are cables with round "washer" shaped objects on the end. (just really fat washers) they also have PINS to hold the tie bars within the cables hooks. Now if that's all good then follow the cables from the tranny there, back twards the firewall. You'll find the mounts about 6-8 inches away. MAKE SURE THE CABLES SIT IN THE MOUNTS! and Make sure the Mount-Clips are in place~ Tightly!! This will fcuk up your shifting. IIRC: I believe your Problem will be here, on the top cable. ( it determines (iirc) up and down, the bottom determines left and right @ shifter) yes you can move these and move your shifter into gear so DO NOT do this with the car running!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool? Check the cables on your shifter. EDIT, check your shifter all together. It sounds to me like your clutch is going out. Maybe you burnt it out shifting into 2nd at 5K RPMS. WHY are you shifting at 5K RPMS!?

And 5k was a round off, its was like around 4.5 or so and it was just one of those times when you want to just get on it. |

Have you checked to see if your clutch is engaging all the way yet? The fact that your clutch was just worked on 6xx miles ago makes it even more likely. I'd take it back to the shop if it was that recently done.

hey i had this exact problem with my celi. one thing you can do to see if it could be the cables is have someone move the shifter in the car while you look at where the cables hit the transmission. figure out what gears go where and have them push in the clutch and shift it with your hands. if it will go into gear like this is mostliikely your cables. i did this from driving like a jerk trying to throw it into gear and it actually snapped some of the cable. i mean not even all of the cable and it throws the whole thing off. the thing was i didnt even see where the break in the cable was untill i pulled the cables off of my car. and the good part is if it is the cables that is a relatively cheap part and its easy to install. hopefully this helps. if you need anything else you can just pm me.

Still, you're shifting at too high RPMs and you're just burning up your clutch. So it's entirely possible that your clutch is going out. When you got it replaced (how many miles ago? 600x?) did you have the flywheel turned? Replace the throwout bearing? What kind of clutch (brand, type) did you install? And who did the work? -------------------- ![]() |

I found the problem, the cable is worn out way in the back and when I try to put it into a lower gear, something sticks out. I had to go under the car to see it. And my clutch is fine because it grips all my other gears like its still brand new, got my flywheel resurfaced, and got it installed by a friend that owns a car shop. |
