It's been sitting on Craigslist for a long time now. I'd probably only offer $500, fix it up so it runs and then make my car a project car. Let me know what you think and if it is even worth it. Thanks! (edit: new topic title) This post has been edited by mkernz22: Aug 5, 2010 - 8:31 PM |

Alright you guys, scratch that first one, found a '97 with a bad tranny going for $600 in the town right next to me. Car has no title, but a lot of useful parts!
http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/pts/1866402856.html Let me know if this is a good buy! I'm offering $500 cash for it. |

I'd do some research on it- get on some Supra forums, find out about common issues, check on how much a new motor will cost, insurance, etc. and then decide if you want to spend that sum of money on it. Whatever the total comes out to be may be worth it to you because you like the car, whereas it might not be worth it to me because I'm not as fond of it. Or maybe it would be worth it to me, but not you. The thing about old cars is that it is difficult to place a numerical value on what they are worth because each person is willing to pay a different amount for it. Case in point. http://carbondale.craigslist.org/pts/1824692535.html
As for the '97 Celica, part that sucker out! Make some cash to rebuild your car, as well has having the parts that you need. I'm just going to scratch the celisupe and try to get the '97 so I can rebuild my front end, pull the engine and keep it cause my car is running up at 214k (it's running strong but you just never know what could happen), and then I'll part it out to you guys on here!
If I get it here's what I'm looking at taking for myself: -hood -fenders -bumper -all 4 headlights -rims and also keep my stock rims for winter -side skirt -doors (if there is no rust cause mine are starting to rust) -some other odds and ends inside it -mirrors -tail lights & the engine! and then once I'm done getting my stuff off, I'll let you guys pick at it till it is down to the bone and either junk the shell or sell it off on here. I'll probably sell it cause I couldn't just let it sit in the bone yard =/ This post has been edited by mkernz22: Jul 30, 2010 - 1:03 AM |

Well that interior is hideous, but the seats look like they are in nice shape. I bet they took them out for racing seats, but then put the stockers back. Did you make them a lower offer or are you going to pay that price?

well the guy's selling for $600, but I'll see how it goes tomorrow! I'm really hoping to get it! im definitely taking the seats and putting them into my car cause mine are torn. im not sure who else drives an auto out there, but the seller said that it makes a grinding sound when it drives. do you guys have any clue what that possibly may be? Redl1ne: is this your car? or are you just restating that it has no title? I believe he was just trying to inform you that it has no title, just in case you missed it. If you are parting the car out, the title won't be an issue. ohh i gotchaa lol, well he became a member on the same day it was posted on craigslist lol, but yeah, I'm using it for parts only. QUOTE Spider77 Posted Today, 06:17 PM Yeah...define "grinding noise"...its kind of vauge I have not actually heard the grinding noise, but he said when it runs it sounds like the gears are grinding on the tranny. My thought is that it just needs some fluid, but well see! To Pressure2: it's really not that bad of a car. It's just some minor stuff, well except for the painted panels. There are a lot of useful parts on it, from what I saw and there is barely any rust. It's not the greatest car, but it's not the worst. |

I think its a good buy. If I could find a parts car around here with decent interior and such for just $600 I would pick it up in a heartbeat.

Look at it this way. It's just $600 plus paint to fix your black car. That's a bargain. Nobody can argue with that. Even if you can't sell a single part off of it later, you've still got a steal just in the parts that you personally use.

just get the vin number and run it, make sure its not stolen property.
Because you dont want to be caught buying stolen property. you can probably get more in parts than 600 -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

So I bought it today for $450, WHAT A STEAL! the guy had the title from previous owner, but never registered the car so it wasn't in his name so he just said he didnt have it. I do have the title now.
Also, I figured out the problem with the tranny when I was taking the wheels off today. Something in there is stripped, I'm thinking the spindles because the wheels move semi freely when lifted off the ground. So I'm thinking that's where the "grinding" noise is coming from because it won't catch the axles. Problem solved I believe. Once I get all the parts I need out of it, it will be going up on here as a parts car. I'm going to try and get it down to the shell if I can. After I save some money, I'll just go to Maaco or see if Manny would be able to do it because I've seen his work and it looks amazing! Day 1 of the strip down, started unbolting most of the front end panels and what not. I'll get pics up tonight. I'm just going to throw out the interior parts that are painted cause they are horrible, unless anyone wants them veryyyy cheap? |

Just noticed this when I was looking at that alternator, are those hood pins on a stock hood? Yeah....sadly there are... but I don't feel like covering up the wholes in the hood so I'm going to buy a better looking set of hood pins. It's not in my interest to get them cause it looks dumb on a stock hood, but I'll have to. Anyway, here are all the pictures and descriptions about today! Around 10:30 am, they finally meet each other. ![]() ![]() Got it jacked up and now it's sitting on house stands that I got from my neighbor. The rims are just under there in case it falls. At this point I took the side skirts off and the wheel well plastics, along with some of the front lights. ![]() I started disassembling during the day today and a bit some more tonight. Here's the finished product for today, pictures are pretty self explanatory. I'm taking the glass off the highs because they need to be drained and resealed! ![]() ![]() Also, I mocked up the fenders, bumpers, and lights on the front of my car. The red radiator support is not staying on there. I'm cutting off the white one and having it welded onto my car. I can't waitttt! ![]() ![]() Got a aftermarket muffler, and I think it looks sickk ![]() It also had a aftermarket air intake sitting in the trunk, just needs a little cleaning. (it goes for $100 brand new!) ![]() I'll keep updates coming everyday that I work on it! This post has been edited by mkernz22: Jul 31, 2010 - 9:08 PM |

so here's what been going on in the past few days:
I've installed the weapon-r intake on my car and it sounds pretty nasty. On the silver celi, I've take out the crash bar, frame rail adapters, a/c compressor, alternator, fuse/ relay boxes, radiator, a/c condenser, windshield washer fluid holder, cruise control, and some other odds and ends. ![]() Here's how it's going with the radiator support (it's almost off, just a little bit more of cutting) Tomorrow it will be off and will get bolted onto my car, then after that's on, everything else will go on for a mock up and then test drive! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So far so go! I have about 8 hours on my hands tomorrow so I'm really hoping I can get a lot accomplished! |

Alright so today I got the radiator support off and got it onto my car! I'll be having my neighbor welding it on sometime next week. As for right now it is bolted on, but it holds very well.
I completely mocked up the front end just to make sure everything fit before I have the rad support welded on. So far, so good! The only thing i didn't mock is the hood because it the last part to go on and I can't do it by myself. Also, I have the aftermarket intake on and it sounds veryyy sweettt! Here are some pictures from earlier today when I was working on it: So I fixed the hole in the fuse/ relay box by just replacing the box, I didn't mess with any of the wiring thank god!: Before ![]() After ![]() ![]() Rad Support Line up: ![]() ![]() Mock Up: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So that's it for today, not going to be able to work on it until Wednesday =[ Going to visit R.I.T. out in NY. Leave some feed back! |

Here are some updates for you guys on my progress.
Not much has been done to my car because I'm waiting for the radiator support to be welded on, which should be on saturday. I've pretty much been doing all the work to the Silver Celi. I know you guys know how they usually look when everything is intact, but here it is mostly disassembled: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks pretty nice eh? She drives way better and is soooo much more comfortable now. The interior was specially made in Germany and I just love it! haha But on a serious note, I like the interior without all that colorful sh*t in it. Here is all that I've done to my car: (just placed the hood on it to see how it lines up) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So even after the crash, everything still lines up great! I'm soooooooo freakinn happy! After the welding, everything is going back onnnnn and she'll be back on the rode. Oh yah, almost forgot that I'm putting the silver doors on my car because there's way less rust. More updates as I progress more! This post has been edited by mkernz22: Aug 11, 2010 - 8:29 PM |
