hey guys i was just wondering how this would turn out...
because i have a white celica, if it would work if i sprayed the outline of my tail lights white, the same colour as my car (masking off the centre part/main bit in the lights).
i am starting to look into tinting them then i came across that idea.
also, when i am tinting the lights, is there any particular prep work that should be done? sanding, cleaning etc. and do i apply anything after the tint is put on?
cheers

A previous member actually "tinted" his tails completely white. Use translucent white paint (google it). ill put pics below, doesnt look that bad.
Also to tint, you need! to clean them very well. Use some rubbing alcohol and clean it completely with a lint free rag. Wait for all the chemicals to dry away, and spray very light coats of niteshade until you get the desired tint. Then you really should you an automotive clear coat on it, or it will fade (with weather and whatnot). But if you use a clear coat from autozone (rattle can) it will stay for a pretty long time before it starts to fade. (you can always redo them easily.

thanks for your reply, but in my opinion i dont dig the full white look, its just not me. i would of thought to get a white paint rather than a white tint, and im assuming just do as many layers to get as solid of enough of a colour as i want right. what were to happen if i no longer wanted the white outline? and just wanted the stock look again?
thanks for you relpy/effort

IF you use PAINT you wont be able to see any light through it..and that's usually illegal...

PS. that guys lights are DEFINITELY illegal in CA as you cant even see them well at night

Im not exactly sure what your asking still?
But yeah all translucent paint is technically illegal (even niteshade, thats all it is, is translucent black. Meant "strictly" for offroad use) Most cops wont bug you about black, but dont piss off the wrong person laugh.gif lol

I think I get what you mean by the outline now that i though about it, and di a quick thing in paint from when i first did my tails.
I assume it would be pretty hard to get the paint off after you did it, without messing with the niteshade as well. And nite shade is like impossible to get off, maybe there is some secret but I havent found it lol
▼Do you mean something like this?▼

yes thats exactly what i meant. becoz atm mine are stock and have are black where you have drawn the white outline. so if thats going to be illegal, and possibly not even look good. i might just give it a pass. i dont think tinting it would give that much of an effect on my car if i were to do the whole lot.
cheers

hahaaa yeah its a "mudbug" got it for $30 in the winter, and fixed it (changed the spark plug the guy was an idiot! laugh.gif) But sold it cause that thing is freakin dangerous, i prob flipped the damn thing a hundred times lmao

but DZ, the white outline I drew, would not be illegal, because it is not affecting the actual light its self. I am saying to do the whole thing would be illegal (like the first pics i posted)

ok cheers for that feed back. and i mite actually do it, and if i do i will post a pic back.
also, love the imagination in the pic above, i wouldnt personally do it but its cool and also helps me figure out how mine would look, minus the white thru the middle

now that i think of it, i could just take a photo of my tails and shop it.

nah coz the jdm's dont have the plastic seperating each light dont they?
aside from that, i wouldnt want to mess with the nice jdm look, however im getting the amber removed from the clear tho.
its a pretty simple job and changes the look alot, can easily do it to the colour of your own car.
