Sup guys,

I'm new to the Celica world.

Last night I just picked up a '95 GT coupe. 142k miles, 5 speed. It runs really strong from 0-4000 RPM
Then above 4k it just stops making power...it just kind of stays there and doesn't pull, and missfires a bit. I have a CEL but have not got it scanned yet.

Any ideas what could be making it cut out about 4k rpm?

You cant get the code scanned. You have to jump the diagnostic port under the hood near the firewall on the driverside. E1 to TE1 key in the on position and count the flashes of check engine light.

When you get the code come back on here and let us know. We can diagnose it for ya. It could be a coil going bad.

its easy smile.gif the ports are labelled under the cap that says diagnostics. Just bridge the gap with, say, a paper clip and turn the key to the "on" position in the ignition but dont start the car!! the code will then flash up on the CEL. It will flash so many times then pause then flash another number, this makes up your code

I'm not here to dick around bud. Thats what this forum is designed for. To help others out with car troubles, not to jerk people around leading them to blow their cars up.

ok.. the diagnosis port is under the bonnet, thats the thingee that covers your engine etc. jk jk tongue.gif. the diagnostic port is a little black box that says diagnosis on it in the top right corner. open it up and find the two pins named E1 to T1, now put one end of a paper clip in t1 and the other end to e1 with the key in the off position in ignition. then walk around and turn the key to the on position and watch/ count the flashes the check engine light makes eg flash flash flash flash... pause, flash flash. is code 42 etc etc...

LOL...How am I supposed to get 24 from that?

The guy I bought this car from said it's normal that it doesn't pull above 4500rpm.
He told me these celicas have "fuel cut" or something like that, and this is totally normal.

Is he full of ****?

24. Flash flash. Pause. Flash flash flash flash. Get it? Two flashes, then four flashes. Not 24 flashes. 2 flashes, then four flashes. 2-4, not 24. It seems confusing until you realize that you aren't waiting for 24 flashes. It's like Morse Code from Toyota.

It's very normal for a Celica to lose power in the top end. All USDM Celicas do that. It's not because of fuel cut or anything like that. It's just called lack of power. But you'd know for a fact if you just ran out of power. It's usually over 5,000 rpm for the 2.2 liter. To lose power at 4,500 is strange. I say clean your injectors, reset your air/fuel ratio, get new spark plugs and wires, and do a tune-up and see where that gets you. You aren't hitting fuel cut at 4,500 rpm.
