Was on my way to school the other morning and traffic was heavy. I was stopped in neutral on the freeway and when traffic started moving again I went to put my car in gear but it wouldn't get into and gear, not even reverse. So I had to turn the car off, put it in gear, and start it back up again to get going. And it pretty much like I have to power shift through every gear because it feels like the clutch isn't disengaging. Even when I press the pedal to the floor, it doesn't help. I adjusted the pedal so it's pretty much at max clutch release and it made things smooth for maybe a few minutes, but now its just the same....I press the clutch in but it does nothing. So basically I always have to start the car in gear and power shift through gears while driving. I can't stay in neutral because then its nearly impossible to get into any gear again without turning the car off. I'm pretty positive it's just that the clutch isn't releasing....even when I start the car in gear with the pedal to the floor, the car starts moving right away with the pedal even down.
I just replaced the clutch on this car a year or so ago as well as the slave cylinder. I looked under the hood and the slave cylinder is moving freely when the clutch pedal is pressed and the pedal feels fine, so I don't think it's the master cylinder at all. Fluids are topped off as well. So basically, since I see the slave cylinder working perfectly fine, I'm assuming its something inside the transmission. I've looked at similar problems other people have had like this and cracked pressure plates seems to be the most popular culprit. I'm just wondering if anyone else has any ideas before I try and get inside the transmission. I really don't want to go that route because it's hard for me to get my car on a lift, cause I don't have direct access to one really. But if I need to, I'm sure I'll find a way. |

try bleeding it...open the slave and open the cap to the master....letting it drain out via gravity or pressing the clutch....with the clutch pedal down, close the slave and well press clutch pedal until it is hard...maybe you got air in the system when you changed the slave

I know this is an old post, but my celica did the exact same thing today. What ended up being the solution? Thanks, -rivs Mine did that twice first time I wiggled and jiggled it then bled the slave and it magically healed itself for six months. Second time another spring broke out of the disk and were just bouncing around in there and when I had a new one installed the disk was worn to the rivets(time for new). |

+1 on broken clutch spring for me
it was wedged between the clutch and the flywheel not allowing the pedal to disengage the tranny from the motor hope you have better luck. bleed and replace the slave cylinder first good luck -jec -------------------- JN 3:16
