Hey guys,

For almost 2 weeks now, my st205 has got a strange whistle when at idle. At first i thought it was a slippery belt, but that is certainly not the case. Then i thought it may be a vacuum leak, but boost is good all the way to red line and the whistle is only there when at negative vacuum. It occurs only after lets say 15 minutes or so and disappears when hitting the throttle a little. Could it be a bearing from the powersteering or aircon pump? It looks like the sound comes from that area.
Any thoughts?

it could be one of the idler pullys, or the PS or AC bearings...you need to get in there and pinpoint the noise.

Checked all the bearings of all pulleys, and it turned out te be the no.1 idler pulley. Although the timing belt was replaced by the previous owner, he did not replace the tensioner and the pulley. Is there possibility the idler pulley by itself can be replaced without tearing down half the engine? Anyone with a kind of how-to maybe?

you're going to have to remove the timing belt to change it, might as well change it all out anyways.

before you change everything out, check one more thing, your intake manifold gasket. if its a real high pitched whistle (like tea kettle) it could be that. i had the same problem from my intake manifold (between block and manifold) when i would accelerate or car would be warm it would disappear but return at idle.

You want power but have no money. That's a problem.

Cheap. Reliable. Fast. Pick two.
