Off to the body shop she goes... wink.gif But first... DMV... here I come...

And um... my fricken Blitz EBC was defective... it powers up... lights up... but all that appears on the screen are lines that you would see on an Etch-A-Sketch... I'm hoping Blitz won't give me any problems with replacing it... The Power-iD works... just not the SBC-iD... frown.gif

Anyway, here are a couple shots I took today of the engine bay...

My car is currently registered as NOP... I need to register it so I can drive... but b4 I do that... I need to get it smogged... but before I can drive it to get smogged... I need to get it registered... you're classic example of a Catch 22... frown.gif

Here's an excerpt from my PROJECT DIARY for all you peeps:

December 8, 2003 PSSSSH! PSSSSH! PSSSSH! After over 1.5 years of waiting, I finally got to drive my car today! And boy... it sure felt good! Damn good! Although ELP took WAY TOO FRICKEN LONG, I must say they did an EXCELLENT JOB. But I'm gonna have to give MOST of the credit to Claude. He put in endless hours of time and effort. I must tell you that this guy is the MOST METICULOUS person!!

BOOST WAS CRAZY. Well, sorta. In first gear, I was maxin out at only 5 PSI. 2nd was about 7 to 8. 3rd was a WHOMPIN 13 to 14 PSI. Mind you, this is all without my EBC. That's right folks... the stock boost was hitting that high. The only reasons that I can think of why my boost was low in the first 2 gears may be due to

1. Lack of traction, which I didn't really notice since I didn't push the car.
2. The exhaust not being connected, thus lack of back pressure.

As for the kickass boost in third, I would have to guess that it might be due to a more agressively tuned ECU. I guess the WRC model has more tricks up it's sleeves in addition to the anti-lag and water injection addons.

Well, the exhaust didn't get finished, but I'm going to worry about that after M1 completes the body work. EL did a decent job with my hood latch. I'm going to get rid of my dual exhaust setup and go with a single until I save up enough for a titanium JIC exhaust. M1 expects my car to be completed within 2 weeks. I'm going to try and push them to finish sooner, regardless of how busy they are. Since I've paid them 90% of the total and since my team has given them LOTS of business and exposure, I SHOULD be given top priority. Anyway, here are more pictures for you peeps...

*fingers crossed*

I'm hoping not... but since I've paid for 90% of the labor already, and since my team has given them lots of business and exposure... it better not take long. There are people in my team who had their cars done with body work and complete paint in 5 to 7 days. Considering the amount of work that's left (front and rear bumpers, color sand, and minor touch ups here and there), TWO WEEKS is more than plenty. I'm going to go by the shop on Friday to make sure they started. If they didn't, believe me... I'm going to raise hell.

When the car was there before, they took there sweet ass time. This time around... this just ain't going to happen.

wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

I would like to activate the ALS, but I don't have enough information on how it operates. At the moment, the BPV is connected to the system, but passage is blocked. I don't think that drilling holes will fully activate the ALS. I believe there are some ECU programming considerations to compensate for the fueling.

But before I consider activating the ALS, I would like to first learn more about the WI system, as well as the IC sprayers. I know that there's a pin on the ECU that needs to be connected, but what I'm wondering is how does it operate. I don't know if it works by means of a certain boost level, RPM level, or by the push of a button.

I need to research this some more before I even consider activating the ALS. They motor swap just got completed and I would like to enjoy it a little first before I attempt to blow up the turbo. tongue.gif

So since you're researching using the intercooler water sprayers, do you plan to convert to a front mount intercooler setup at some point? wink.gif

for the IC sprayers.. if you just want a chiller you can make them your self for pretty cheap.

you can get some small PVC piping from any Home improvement center and basically make a rectangle that is slightly smaller than your IC, you will need to mount a inlet adaptor to it. once you have that made drill small holes into it so the holes are angled towards your IC.. I wouldnt do straight on but get a little bit of an angle to em.

Once you do that you will need a braided line.. not sure of the size yet as I am currently working on mine - but you will connect that line to the same kind of tank that you use in paintballing - CO2. You will need to incorpurate an electronic switch that you can hook up into your cab..

Basically you flip the switch right before your run and it almost freezes your IC and will chill the air for the duration of your run... or you could just let it go the whole run but thats kinda overkill and wastes your CO2 pretty quick.

My dad used to run something kinda like this on one of his older race cars and I made almost a sec difference on the quarter mile when he used it compared to when he didnt. I will post some pics of it all when I get it all done

No, the IC sprayers spray onto the heat exchange (shown below). The heat exchange is practically an IC... a sorta pseudo FMIC... an extension to the TMIC.

EDIT: Added a closeup. The IC sprayer is sitting on top of the heat exchange (not a very good picture, unfortunately). Here's what the sprayers look like when attached to the bumper:

I may consider incorporating something like this, but for now, I'll probably just stick with the WRC components. Thanks for the suggestion tho buddy.

Ray, I have been watching your project for a while. Well, reading it and stuff. I must say, it must be a dream come true. smile.gif . To have the 3rd Gen 3S-GTE swapped in sounds amazing. Good luck! Keep us posted on the progress.

I noticed someone asking about the AWD conversion. I have been reading on a Colt/Mirage forum because of a friend of mine who is into Colt's. There are a few Colts on there that have done an AWD conversion. A big one using the drivetrain from the GSX Eclipse. I'm don't have a full understanding on it yet, but I'm reading up on it. Are you planning on doing the AWD swap? I know in the future, I will attempt it (once I get the Celica tongue.gif ). I was thinking that that forum could help people interested in it.

The guy's post is here:
Post
And his website with detailed pictures and write-up is here:
Website

I know its not a Celica, but I figured the information would be well-above useful. I hope it helps.

Actually, I'm still debating if I should do the conversion or not. If I do decide on doing this, it won't be until I get a second car, which might not be for a while. I have other plans that I've given top priority. I'm thinking that this may not happen till mid-2005 or later.

Thanks for looking out bro.

Would the AWD be cost effective, I mean wouldnt you practically need the rear clip and alot of custom work???

not just a rear clip, you would have to chop out the floor pan from the unibody and weld in the ST205 floor pan...

bowdown.gif ray bowdown.gif the wait was well worth it wasnt it haha

this is what I get for hanging around mini-truckers...

If you want to do the AWD conversion, just set it all up and then weld in two cross suported pieces of thick square tubing to the bottom of your car for support. Then just swap over what you needed from a st205, or 185 for that matter (as long as the drive ratios are compatiblewith your wrc.) It seems feasable. Plus, there are bound to be thousands of rear st205 cuts in japan. after all, we are hungry for the front halfs. I would think the parts you needed could be shipped over in a few boxes..

As for ME, no, it's not cost effective. Nor is it worth any time or money. I think money can be spent in better ways. BUT, if I had a grip of extra cash, then I'd think about it. I wish I'd hit the Lottery or something of easy cash so I can have a lot of extra money to play with.

Project Diary updated:

December 12, 2003 So M1 called me today to inform me that they were going to start on my car. They also asked that I come down to confirm certain tasks that I requested before. When I showed up, I was pretty surprised at home much they got done (in 5 to 6 hours). David, one of the owners, told me that if things go well and that they don't run into any complications, they should be able to finish my car between the 19th to the 23rd. Things are going to take a bit longer because I requested that they clean up things that weren't done correctly. Pictures below...

he's not telling anyone

but i think that the supra is only has a 1/2" longer wheelbase, so you could probably fit on some supra sideskirts with a little bit of alteration.

Yes guys, they are Supra sideskirts. Now that the cat is outta the hat, and that's all I'm gonna say. It took a lot of work to make them look right. And when I say a lot, I do mean A LOT.

NEVER, I don't go on AIM anymore, so if you wanna talk, just email me or continue PM'ing me: rayf@illmaticonline.com

I had no intentions on keeping the exhaust setup and rims. I'm having one of my sponsors make me a custom titanium exhaust and I'm getting some show and new daily driven rims.

Thanks guys.

Custom titanium exhaust? That's gonna be crazy-nice Ray! biggrin.gif How big of piping do you plan to run, and what kind of exhaust muffler is going to be used? Also, do you know what kind of rims you're getting?

I'm most likely going to go with 2.5" since Blitz designed their Nur Spec for the GT-FOUR to use 70mm. I'm thinking that 3" is going to be too big. I trust Blitz's research.

I'm gonna have JIC make the exhaust for me and talk to them more about helping them market their products.

I'm thinking of getting Racing Harts for daily's... not that knockoff RH Evolution... the actual Racing Harts...

Yup. I already put together a priority list of what I need to get first, second, etc... I think it's more important that I get my brakes done next (drum to disc). I'm gonna see if one of our sponsors, Rotora, would be willing to make a kit that way all of you ST owners will have something to buy off the shelf. I'm gonna see if they can offer it for a reasonable price (as much as the cost of sourcing parts from a junkyard).

I'm glad that my project was able to inspire you doggy. Your car is awesome and I wish I could do the custom work that you do. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to experiment on my car's body, so I have to pay someone to do it.

Anyway... thanks to everyone. The pictures will keep coming. Hopefully, more this weekend.

Project Diary update:

December 17, 2003 So I received a call from my friend yesterday about a photoshoot opportunity. I contacted the person and found out that the shoot was going to bed help in LA on the 21st and 22nd for the upcoming 2004 Celica brochure. So I contacted M1 to see if they could finish my car by Friday or Saturday, and they said yes!

So as stoked I was, I expected my car to be done and ready by Saturday. I rarely get excited, but I certainly was excited, UP UNTIL I received a call about 5 minutes ago. M1 called me to inform me that they were having trouble fitting my front bumper on my car due to frame damage. I was already aware of the (minor) damage and brought this to their attention a long time ago. They told me that there would be no way that my car would be finished in time for the shoot and that they would need to charge me an additional $500 just to fix the damage. So now I'm really bummed and pissed because the last body shop that worked on my car was aware of this problem and didn't fix it. I wasn't aware that the problem still existed until the motor swap.

So yeah... I really pissed about this whole situation mad.gif and depressed!!! frown.gif

December 18, 2003 I'm still in shock that the shop is going to charge me $500!!! From what I can tell, the only REAL damage that would affect the bumper from being mounted properly is highlighted in the picture below. I just don't understand! These ****ers are trying to leech off me! I know I don't have problems with tire wear or anything of that nature... so the damage IS NOT that serious and I don't know what would justify a $500 charge!! They told me that the bumper lines up except there's a noticable gap between the bumper and the hood along the passenger side. I'm telling you, it should not cost $500 to pull out the area highlighted below:

doesnt even look all that bent up.

have them put on the bumper and see the "gap" for yourself.

u sure that the bumper support isint just getting in the way?

the stock bumper support is to thick for the gt4 bumper. you have to cut it or order the gt4 support to make the front bumper fit.

Sorry to hear about the delay / extra costs Ray but after almost two years now comes the patience bro biggrin.gif

Props to both your car and your detailed photos/journal man, I'd say by far the best/coolest on the site!

One question - I've been overworked lately so haven't been able to dig through all your posts, but are you staying with that rear skirt? Seems kinda too short for teh sideskirts / front. Can you try to get a rear 3/4 shot including a rear corner, wheel and back of the skirts? Cheers!
