Ok, so I've been having problems with my car where the temp went high.
I knew my Koyo Rad was fine and realized that I'd been losing alot of Coolant. I saw some dripping underneath..maybe 1 drop in 20 secs. I figured there was a leak. I opened up up the covers leading to the water pump just like I did when I had changed my timing belt. One bolt was sticking out and I knew that was the problem. I started to ratchet that bolt back in, but then it snapped...I don't know how much of it snapped off, but I have to put a bolt in there to stop the leak. Any suggesting would be appreciated! I need this done ASAP. It is a very tight space and I really can't see how far the bolt is in there.....I just know that the whole bolt screwed in almost till the end..then it snapped...and I'm missing the tip of this bolt.. Wow, and there is next to no room to work in that area. My guess, remove the alt, and clear out some space if you can. Use an air drill (because of its small size), try to get it as dead on as possible, then use an extractor. Maybe have an extra pair of hands to hold a mirror and light would help too.
Pull the engine out and do it the right way, or um....jb weld! |

Pull the engine out and do it the right way, or um....jb weld! Yea, everything is outta the way--it's the same as changing a timing belt... Thos extractors....do they make them that small? I mean the bolt is a 10mm head. I'm assuming the shaft of the bolt is like 8mm...that means I have to get an extractor drill bit that is 6-7mm...then the extractor has to be that size too.. Thanks for the help.. Anyone else have any suggestions? |

yeah, they make em small, but the smaller it is, the more prone to breaking it is.

tear it down and tell us if the bolt is flush with the block or not.

tear it down and tell us if the bolt is flush with the block or not. The bolt was flush with the block... BUT, fortunately the screw was not tight so, I carefully made an X crease and spun it with a mini flat head. I then got a vise-grip and unscrewed it... So, to my luck the bolt was taken out...I just gotta buy a new set cuz all my bolts seems to be rusting....due to coolant leak. Thanks so much for your help! I hope I see some of you guys at the FOYT. We can close this thread. |
