Hi all my name is Simon and im a proud new owner of my ss1 celica manual done 170,000kms, well kinda ive had this car for nearly a year now and also very familier about this great site, proved very helpful already!
When i bought my car i thought all celica's were the same but soon found out how wrong i was! bad luck was i got a ss1 celica the slowest of them all, oh well i love this car and it drives like a dream, got pics of her in my profile =D only mods i have done since i bought it is pod filter and new free flow exhaust just to give that poor 3sfe engine a bit more power, still see a engine swap in the future mmmmm ss3 beams SO TASTY! All i like to say this is a great site and im glad to finally been a member. Any other Celica owners in New Zealand? will be great to hear from ya. cheers! |

Welcome! Post up some pictures of your car. and it's ok, the ss1 isn't the slowest of them all. the ST model in the US is. Especially with an auto too. hahahahaah.

HAHA yea good point, celica with a 1.8L engine, forgot bout that one... all we got here in nz is the 3sfe-3sge and of course the 3sgte (HONDA KILLER!) =D
Oh whats a good image hosting site? i notice on some post's that pictures are full size and some you need to click on the pic link, whats with that? Hey Rusty i know you well already, seen your build thread all the way through since day 1 NICE CAR BRO! also same with delusionz build (LOVE THAT GT4!) but i must admit i spend most of my time on here looking at mannys builds those projets are CRAZY! makes it look so easy hahaha Ive been thinking of getting more power out of my engine and i know there is like no info on my 3sfe on this site, but can someone tell me if its possible to bolt a early model 3sge head on my 3sfe block? do the have the same block, they got the same bore\stroke and pistions dont they? sorry if this is a nooob question ![]() |

Might not make it much faster, but getting some colder air into that airfilter should help. Yeah sadly not much you can do with these engines.
For putting a 3S-GE head on a 3S-FE, you might be able to do it if the water lines etc line up, but will require a bit of work and extra/hidden costs (3S-GE pistons are a different design I know that) Much easier & less cost effective to swap to a 3S-GE (pretty sure you wont require a cert for the engine swap) 3S-GTE - will require a cert photobucket is pretty good for hosting pics thanks for following my SS-II thread ![]() -------------------- |

thought that might be the case, engine swap would cost to much for the value of the car. maybe stick with this one till i got 6k for an ss3 off trademe

I'm on the shore too, nah it's not me, my car is in the shop, should be done on friday.
Getting a disco potato turbo put in, my new custom manifold and downpipe and exhaust housing are out getting ceramic coated then it's all rock-and-roll. the SS-III I had was ok, one of the most awesome FWD 90's Jappers I've driven actually, Definitely swear by the superstrut/lsd combination. but the GT4 is a real weapon lol. I had a SS-I aswell, the GT4 is like a katana, the SS-III is like a dagger, anything less is like a butter knife ![]() ![]() Hahaha sorry guys ![]() -------------------- Mike W

You cant really say one is better than the other as they operate in completely different ways
http://www.billzilla.org/vvtvtec.htm is a good read, about how they operate, benefits and drawbacks. ... now back on topic Give us a yell NZss1fun when you start looking at buying a SSII/III celica, should be able to help you out so you know what your looking at and what to look out for. -------------------- |

NAC insured me $1300 a year full cover for the GT4 when I was 24 and restricted license
But yeah, Good luck in your search for an SS-III, Post the ads here if you see any that catches your interest we can tell if it's a genuine SS-III and advise you on common faults for various ages, etc. Many people think Beams = SS-III, but it's not, it pertains to the year the 3S-GE engine was produced. So you may pick up an SS-III not knowing, or you may get someone trying to sell an SS-II as an SS-III. Whether you get the Beams or not, it's definitely worth it for the Superstrut and LSD. Like you I started with an SS-I, looked good but wanted to make it more fun. I started reading stuff and learning about my car and the engines and decided not to touch the SS-I as there was nothing worth doing which made it significantly any better, then it got written off and I was paid out enough luckily to get an SS-III and it's been quite a journey from there. -------------------- Mike W

Replacing $300 arms every 150,000kms isn't so bad, anything else you could have heard probably came out of the mouth of a hater lol
