I Gave _JIM_ a board member here one thousand dollars through Paypal as a deposit for RHD conversion and GT4 Brakes March 25th 2011, during which in the two month period I have called numerous times and NEVER answered a single call.........never answered an email......I would text him and receive a text 2 weeks later......so at the end of the two month period I blasted his phone and nothing......note he did not set up a voicemail for a reason. He texted two days later and said "Do you mind if it comes in later....." I said politely to call me ....and no he responded Im at work cant call you. So he said do you want your money back....I said Ill thing about it and get back to him....2 hrs later I said just refund my money......he responded with if it doesnt come in by the 25th ill refund it no problem. I left it at that...5 days later I again blasted his phone and nothing.....and yet again later he said ill refund it friday....so friday again except this time now his phone is OFF!!!!!!!! I had it with being a nice guy....I run my own business but if I pulled one of these stunts believe you me I'd get it good.. Now, please beware of this guy do not buy anything from him...I will hunt him don on the other forums and post this as well. Legal action will be taken.

Sorry to hear about this.
Yes, I know and am friends with Jim.
I have the same contact info for him as you guys do. (email/phone)
I will try and call him today.
This isn't the first problem Jim has had with shipping things, he is a slow shipper no doubt, but I don't think he's out to rip anyone off.
Frankly, it's getting old having to back him with all you guys.
While I do know him, and am friends with him, I live 200+ miles away, so its not like I can just drive over to his house.
I will post here as soon as I have more info.

I paid Jim 4100 before LAST summer for my full setup and didn't receive it until February. Since then I have been waiting for Jim to send me my axles, ecu, and intake so I can finish. Apparently he sends those sepeate to avoid getting lost..

It really sucks, I have EVERYTHING else except for this stuff to do my swap.. I was planning on doing it at my buddy's warehouse, due to how long it's taken, that is no longer an option. I am now paying a monthly storage fee that I never should have had to pay in the first place to store this motor while I wait for Jim to take his sweet time shipping my stuff (or stealing my money, who knows at this point). I've wasted about 400 in storage so far, and I was supposed to get a tracking number for the tenth time Friday from Jim, but as usual, I didn't. So who knows how much I wil have to waste on storage..I know jims not reimbursing me that money...so it really sucks, I see no end in sight and have honestly lost so much motivation in this project because I feel like I got super scammed...I could have purchased a set from another source and been swapped last year..but I paid the big money because I wanted the "6gc guarantee" and everyone seemed happy with his motor sets, biggest mistake I've made.

Presure2- thank you for going out of youR way to help the situation, all of us appreciate it man.

Just tried to call, got the "no voicemail box" thing like the rest have, he's always had it setup like that.
While I'm not exactly in the same boat as you guys, I am also waiting on parts from him that I was supposed to have received already.
Like I said, he's always been a slow shipper, but he's always come thru for me and anyone else I've known.
Not much more I can do or say other than that.

As with any party to party transaction you are taking a risk when you send your money in exchange for goods.

#1 Is there an invoice and or a written document that is signed by both parties?
#2 What was the method of payment and what was documented with fund transfer? (ie. as far as paypal is concerned anyone can send anyone any amount of money (minus paypal transfer fees) and without a sales slip they will see such transaction as a gift which is almost impossible to get a refund on).
#3 Were you agreeing to purchase an item that was in possession of seller or were you agreeing to purchase bits and pieces that have to be assembled and or shipped to that individual before anything is forwarded to you? In simple terms.. did you buy a "whole in one part" or a "whole in many parts all over the place"?

And finally #4. While nothing can safeguard anyone against anything, it is in the hands of buyers and sellers to do proper research on each other, arrange timely shipping costs (ie you submit a deposit or a void check with proof of funds), pick items up in person if applicable and have everything fully documented and agreed upon before anything is even funded or sent.

Example is this:
Lets say I wanted player158 to send me a radiator. I would first figure out that he is reputable, has dealt with other forum members, if anyone seen him in person, knows where he lives and whether he has capability to send me a radiator.
In my case all of the above would be a check since I have known him for many years and in person.

On the other hand if I had some guy named Jim living somewhere offering me whatever I would first look up his reputation and find out that it is questionable or not. I would then figure out whether he has whatever available and then I would try and figure out most cost efficient way to get whatever back to me. Either way I would not forward him any money until he has everything packaged in one box, sent me a picture of it and contents, has procured a sales receipt and is capable of emailing it to me. If paying with paypal I would wait for a sales receipt or money request so that my purchase is documented and protected under paypal agreements etc etc etc.

What has happened to you have happened to many people over the years. Most experiences with other members are positive, other experiences not so much. You have to be a good judge of decisions that you are making especially when you deal with that kind of money.

never send money through paypal as a gift, there is no way of getting your money back. especially with large priced orders, send it as goods, that way you can have paypal get the money back if anything goes wrong. that 3 percent that paypal charges besides it being their profit also serves as your insurance. even if you've known someone or is reputable, never trust anyone, things change, situations change, times change. stay on the safe side and pay the 3 percent. i think 30 dollars on top of the 1000 dollars is pretty worth the headaches.

If Michelle isn't going to be allowed to sell anymore for less than $300 with some amount of communication. Jim sure as hell should'nt be allowed to for a grand and no communication. Personally Ive always thought jim was a stand up overall nice guy.

as much as i like jim, and how good of friends we are, you (and db15) are correct.
we cant allow jim to continue selling here if he cannot consistantly deliver on his end of deals that he makes.

i have yet to hear from him, but as soon as i do, i will post here.
till then, lets not turn this into a bash fest.

Just to let some know I did not send as a gift and I also put down on the description a very detailed description of parts expected to receive and meantioned it was an ahead payment by two months. I know I can get my money back, but how long.......I mean my wife is in law school and works at a law firm so getting him to pay legal fees on top of that will be cake. The process, not so cake...... because this is an online transaction, we have to call up paypal and get all that info. Thanks for the support but we really have to do something about this guy dicking everyone.....

Can you clarify the following please:

Did he send you an invoice first to which you replied or did you send in the money outlining what you are paying for? Just because you dont think you sent thing as a gift does not mean that you have not sent it as a gift. Law has nothing to do with paypal. They have bazillion clauses that protect paypal first, then the person who received money and then person who sent money and in that order.

Im not after paypal....they are the middle men....again maybe he is on vacation, but i gave this guy too many chances to just contact me...... thanks again for going out of your way Pressure2/Manny you didnt have to..... but thanks again...I am pissed because this was the reason why I wanted to do another celica project and now this let down....I feel like scrapping the project nd just putting the money in another car.......

I personally have bought parts from Jim, got them within a week. So my personal experience is great. I even know him personally. However, I do have customers (now that I work at Tweak'd Performance) who have similar stories to the OPs. I'm on the fence on this one.

This isn't an ideal situation at all.

I have a similar story (although the total value was nowhere near as great as the OP) I was waiting on an ST205 Apex'i intake for my new turbo setup, and after a week of f**king around I gave my engineer the go ahead to make a custom one, well 2 months later my intake finally arrives and I have to put it back up for sale since it's no use to me now.

In both of our situations, neither hold up prevented use of the car. Anyhow, as unideal as it is, there was light at the end of the tunnel.

You just gotta expect with these sort of things, there's always going to be holdups and it's not uncommon to have a 2 week project turn into a 2 month project simply because parts didn't arrive on time.

I had a clutch change turn from a 1 day job to a 2 week job as I had sent off my engine mounts to get burnt out and filled with polyurethane, the polyurethane only takes 3 days to set, so what happened in 2 weeks? So I've come to accept that the world doesn't stop for me when my Celica needs parts.

That's 2 weeks on the hoist my engineer lost money on.

What concerns me is his unwillingness to come post in this thread and man up about his reliability problems. Waiting for parts for a year is absurd and he should not be allowed to continue stealing from members. I would be all over you, my cc company, the IC3 site, local law enforcement, etc. if you advertised a swap and I didn't have all of it in a month and communication was as poor as Jim's.

I honestly think that he thinks he is "untouchable" because him and Manny are friends. I hope you come down on him hard, Manny. People here are looking up to the Moderators in times like this to get things rolling.

While mods can help in many situations, it isn't their job to be mediators for buying/selling disputes. This is a buyer-beware world and you need to make sure you cover your ass any time you send someone money. The best the board can do is have marketplace ratings so that people have an idea of what a buyer/seller is like, and whether they can be trusted.

Furthermore, sellers need to own up to the fact they maybe overwhelmed with what they can provide. As soon as you have someone's money it is a priority to get their goods out to them in a timely and effective manner. I've read some of the stories on here and people have been waiting months for parts? That's unfathomable. If I don't have what I purchased within a couple weeks, there is hell to pay. And by hell, I'm talking legal action and law enforcement. It's a straight-up crime to take money from someone and not provide the goods/services you are promised.

Expect the best, prepare for the worst. Always cover your ass. Don't do a buyer a "favor" by taking a short cut in providing funds, always have a means to prove a transaction occurred (IMs/PMs/E-mails/Receipts etc.) and agree to have a timetable for deliver; this is something lots of people don't do. Put it in writing in the chat logs that the goods are to be delivered by such a date. Don't pay in cash, there's no paper-trail, and no method to get your money back (unless this is a face-to-face transaction).

Prime example of waiting too long. You should have started a process to get your money back about 4 months ago.
